  1. I meant in CMSF, you know, instead of adding another NATO Mod, add a Russian one.

Your ending statement tells me all I need to know though, the writing is on the wall for SF and I strongly suspect that support for it will be non existant when the Normandy game comes out. Which will be a shame but understandable I suppose when you only have the one programmer.

That could be! I can see BF dropping CMSF once CMX2 WW2 stuff starts hitting the public. What about if CMSF addons being farmed out to 3rd party developers?

  2. I know Kwazydog has already commented, but I'm led to believe that Syria was chosen because it was the most plausible opponent for a near future conflict taking into account events in Iraq. Even so it is only vaguely plausible, but yeah.

I think the 2006 conflict in Lebanon was also a deciding factor for how this sort of combat could be interesting.

The US would have to be pretty desparate to launch a ground invasion of Iran. Not really an option I reckon.

Right, and wasn't BF hoping to sell, or did sell, CMSF to the U.S. military?

  3. As I declared a long time ago, that would be a wonderful feature. Please Battlefront!

    right on!

Yeah, I played the old Age of Empires II RTS game as coop (one player would control the farmers, city development, building armies and would then pass on the troops to the other player who was out fighting the enemy players or comps) and it was a blast and as others have mentioned made life much easier for us folks with low "twitch-factor."

If possible to code, and if CMSF even comes out with coop, it would be nice to be able to designate which player will control which units (I don't want my coop player taking over my units).

  4. Let me some more things, I dont know how you think of us as terroists? We arent bombing Gaza for 8 years in a row are we? We are setting up hospitals inside of Gaza, Im not sure that Hamas is doing that near Ber-Sheba and Ashdod. We have asked for peace again and again only to get nil. When the cease fire ended and we asked for another they said no. I dont get why the Gazins voted the HAMAS....

I am a strong supporter of Israel.

Many here are having second thoughts about our support for your great country after witnessing developments in the attack in Gaza. The reports on the number of Israeli civilian casualties from Hamas rockets (last I heard it was ~20 deaths?) compared to ~1,000 deaths of Gaza civilians is quite worrisome.

Our support for Israel is turning into empathy for the Palestinian civilians! Get your act together, Israel!

  5. To be fair, if anything, wait for CMx2 Normany ww2 thingie. It took me ages to get into, but CMSF is a good game, it's just a boring setting imho. Good things are on the horizon! But not in this subforum I think. By the time this is done, we'll all be having Windows 7 SP3 compatibility issues, nvm Vista issues.

    ditto!

or in the OP language...the Stuph in CMSF is so dumb and lame! stuph suxs bad in CMSF.

wait for the CMXX (see it is 2 Xs...instead of CMX2, i wrote it as CMXX! pretty cool stuph, eh?) and prey it is good!

    :D

  6. Good day,

I searched the entire Battlefront Website and I'm very impressed. For some years ago I played CM 1 and 2. Now I like to start playing an new game, but couldn't decide which one to choose.

Can anyone advice me: choose CMSF or TOW ???

    Regards,

    Dirk (The Netherlands)

try out the demo version for both game! I have CMSF but I have not tried TOW.

CMSF and I find it to be a fair game at best. I don't know about pricing in the your part of the the world, but I paid around $45USD at release and now you can find CMSF in the bargain bin at amazon.com for around $5USD (used) to $10USD (new) in America.

    Have fun!!!

    :)

  10. Patrocles,

Ah, but your first mistake is thinking that Fox News is representational of US media in general :D "Fair and balanced" is their motto, but that's as far as it goes. It's no secret that Fox is extremely right leaning and pro-Israel. By "no secret" I mean Rupert Murdoch saying that's his point of view and he makes sure the entire Fox establishment reflects it. An interesting documentary about this is "Out Foxed" which is mostly interviews from Fox execs who were thrown out or marginalized for trying to be "fair and balanced". Not to say Fox doesn't do some excellent reporting, because they do, just saying that they are not reflective of the media as a whole. Generally speaking the media in the US is covering the death and destruction in Gaza and not so much the effects the rockets are having in Israel. Which makes sense because the battle is in Gaza, not in Israel.

    Steve

    Fair point, sir!

I need to start by reading the WP article linked above by PSY that claims the Israeli media is ignoring the Palestinian civilian plight.

  11. I just saw this great docu-animation. I loved the artistic side of it with detailed and atmospheric visuals and the storytelling regarding the Lebanon war was brilliant. And it tries hard to be objective despite coming from the one side of the conflict. Highly recommended.

    Trailer:

    thanks for the linky!

Oh, yes, I've heard and read a few positive reviews of this film. This is definitely on my list to watch!

  12. Patrocles,

I think any Israeli sitting and watching the evening news here in the US would think that the US media was "pro Hamas" if anything.

The figures are widely reported as 13 Israelis dead, 3 civilians and 10 soldiers. And yes, thousands of rockets have been fired into Israel. That's not a lie. The thing is that the rockets are largely causing destruction of property and light wounds only. This was the same thing that happened in summer of 2006 with Hizbollah. The rockets are primarily weapons of terror, not effective weapons of destruction. The terror caused by the rockets is not proportional to the death toll from them. Similarly, the terror and misery cause by the Israeli attacks in Gaza go far beyond the death toll.

    Steve

No, you are completely wrong. The media here (Fox news, some radio) that I listen to do not appear to support either side, but the media does not put the Israeli invasion into perspective if the 4 dead Israeli civilians is an accurate number (which it appears to be! amazing!!)

  13. During this entire three-week conflict I think the Israelis have suffered about 13 dead, most of them soldiers, some of which were killed accidentally by their own side. In contrast, the figure for Palestinian dead is approaching 1000.

Whenever there are reports of the conflict on the news I see one report about Gaza and another about Israeli towns being hit by rockets. I'm actually beginning to feel this is unfair because there should be about 10 reports on the Israeli bombardment of Gaza for each report on Israeli towns attacked by HAMAS.

Like it or not, the only winner in this conflict will be HAMAS because of the way Israel has used disproportionate force. Does anyone seriously believe that Israel will be able to live peacefully alongside the Palestinians after all this carnage? One British MP who has managed to get into Gaza says he's seen Palestinian kids doing the "V for Victory" sign everywhere he's gone. These people are now like the Brits during the German Blitz of WWII - united in the face of adversity. Israel has lost its senses if you ask me.

    good points!

Does anyone know how many Israelis have been killed and injured by Hamas rockets? The U.S. media and pro-Israeli groups never report the Israeli death toll from rocket attacks by Hamas. What I hear/read only indicate that "thousands of rockets" were fired into Isreali territory. I'm guessing the Israelis have probably suffered 1,000+ casualties from Hamas rockets?

  14. Then again, computer 'referee' has made rules lawyers almost extinct. Some have developed house rules so that they could still practise meta lawyering, but you're not going to become a celebrity that way.

I think fog of war is also better done in CM compared to ASL (imho), but then again, i'm not a rules lawyer so I may be done stuff completely wrong! haha

I did play a few ASL double-blind scenarios that were a blast! However, we needed 3 players and two sets of the game which is a PITA.

  15. CM blows compared to ASL - IMVHO of course. Nothing (gaming wise) beats sitting across the table from your opponent as the all important CC ambush die rolls fall in the critical CC in a victory hex location. Don't get me wrong, I obviously very much enjoy CM but I hate when any game thinks that it knows what it is that I want to do and proceeds to do it for me. I love fingering up my ASL counters.....

    +1

I also like the fact that I can see the game mechanics behind the gameplay. many a times in CM I find my elite troops hiding in dense woods spotted by a tank at 300m and i think, 'WTF?' lol I may not agree with the game mechanics in a board game but at least they are available to the player.

  16. Hi all

Battlefront (nz) Flames of War 15mm

Does anyone know a good, current forum, where I can ask questions about rules?

And also, by chance, anyone playing in the Hertfordshire UK area and want a game - I have enough for both sides - My club at Dunstable dont play this!!!

you can try Boardgame geek. I tend to find this site good for game info, but weak on discussion for many games. At the bottom they list links related to FoW. Have fun pushing around your panzers! :)

    woah, interesting FoW minature!

(I am guess at this point that Hans wish they had developed airbags back ~1940)

  17. Well, looks that way.

I have now been refused medical insurance cover twice! Due to my medical history of diabetes, high blood pressure and depression (and only being 39 a smoker and moderate drinker)

I am not angry that they wont cover me - I am a bad bet.

But got me thinking..I wanted cover for 22 years so are they saying the likelyhood is that I will die before then? If so does anyone know how they calculate the risk verses return particularly with life insurance?

And does anyone know of a method of calculating how long one might live?

22 years is a long time - not short enough to stop work or go on that world tour or marry that 18 year old thai bride...

wow! I guess this denial of health coverage is a big problem if the health coverage industry is run by the private sector and is out to make a profit? Do you live in the U.S.? Does this type of denial occur in other countries with government-run health care? (specifically those communist countries such as Canada, England, Germany, Norway, Finland, etc?).
