  1. Hav'nt heard much about CM2. I'm looking forward to playing with Some of Uncle Joe's stuff. But I still think reliability should be modeled at this level. Especially during an operation. Things tend to break when you put them under a lot of stress. Such as "Han's Han's INCOMING reverse mach snell!!! ------ "Stop with the negative vibes man" Oddball
  2. You are right Combined Arms. First off "Closing with the Enemy" should be required reading for anyone playing CMBO. One of the main reason the US Army was so good at it was it's communications network was superior to anyone elses. Also The ability of the spotter to talk directly to Arty units and not neccisarily having to go through the chain of command. Is it difficult to do in CMBO? Absolutely. But It can be well worth the time to do it. When possible I like to bring several arty units down on a position at once. Soften up the positions a bit then attack. While moving in for the kill lift the arty a bit onto the defenders retreat route and watch them break and never return. Then blow your Shermans through the hole to victory. Of course it doesn't always work that way. ----- "Nuts" If you don't know who or when shame on you

  5. Hey Skipper lighten up it was a joke. I guess I should use those little faces more. It was just a reference to the fact that whenever anyones says anything about the Western Allies winning the war you invariably have to hear about how it was the Soviet Union (Commies) that did it. Since COMBO does not cover the Eastern Front yet. There was no need to discuss Soviet armor. It was not meant as a put down to anyone. Your remarks about the Sherman were right on. The biggest drawback of the Tiger was it's drain on resources and it's unreliability. Which brings up the Question. Is reliability of a tank modeled in COMBO? If so the Tiger and other big guns of the Germans (nazis) should breakdown much more often. ----- "We have meet the enemy and he is ours" Adam. 6. First off it is not gamey to exit units off the map.But as stated on p.100 of the rules. Any units exited off the map duing an operation is unavailable for use in future battles of the operation. Thats the only drawback of exiting a unit. ----- Remember " No man ever won a war by dieing for his country. He won it by making the other poor sob die for his country: PATTON
  7. Deadeye- you state that it was 5000 points. I think you mean 2000 points. All tactical advices you have been given is good. The Pause move is a 15 second pause at the start of your turn before a tank begins to move. I still restate that given the forces you say. There is very little you could do. As I have found in many battles the game can be won or lost in the choice of forces and set-up phases. By buying only Jumbo's you took away the one advantage you have over the Germans. That is SPEED. You gave up your advantage in speed for a little extra armor that is still not going to stop an 88 or 120(something) round. Your not going to knock out either of those monsters from the front with that 76mm gun. Next time try purchasing a bunch of Hellcats. yes i know there armor is paper thin but those German cats are going to kill anything you have with one shot anyway. The Hellcat can go 55 mph. Let those three big German cats try to kill 15 Hellcats flying at them from all different directions. Sounds like fun want to give it a try ------ Remember: " No man ever won a war by dieing for his country. He won it by making th other poor sob die for his country" PATTON
  8. The reasonning for this is given on page 54 of the manual. ----- "No man ever won a war by dieing for his country he won the war by making the other poor sob die for his country" PATTON
  9. Buy JABO's Not much your going to do in that situation. If you want to play an armour Vs. armour only against the Germans you need to set a limit on the gun size the Germans can have or make it a street fight. Remember 4 allied tanks got knocked out for every Tiger let alone the heavier armoured Jagdtiger. ------ "No man ever won a war by dieing for his country he won it by making the other poor sob die for his country" PATTON
  10. Or French tanks Which tank is better. The never ending question. Just don't flame the Sherman it not only won ww2 in the west (no hate mail from the commie lovers out there please) But it also won several wars for the Israilies afterwards. Which was better for real can be summmed up by those who fought against them. Ask anyone who fought against the Germans and the thing they feared the most was the Tiger tank. Be it infantry or armor. I really like that in CM that your troops esspecially if there of a lower caliber will call just about any tank they see a Tiger at first. Which is better to have in CM depends not only on your tactics but the job on hand. The Tiger can't be beat in the defense esspecially if he has long LOS's. Other than that have fun with both. I for one enjoy playing with many different kinds of weapons not just the biggest baddest ones. I get more satisfaction out of killing a Stug with a Greyhound. Which I just did in a PBEM game than killing anything with a Tiger. where's the challange in that? ------- "No man ever won a war by dieinf for his country he won it by making the other poor sob die for his country" PATTON
  11. The time it takes to bring on a full barrage from the first Spotting round depends on several factors in real life. 1) The distance that the guns are away from the target. Usually the bigger the gun the farther away from the battlefield it it. 2)What kind of stress is the Spotter under. If he is under fire his accuracy will usually suffer. The life expectancy of an Arty spotter is very short in a battle. He is a high priority target by the enemy and also by me in CM :-D 3) how good is his LOS. Does he have a clear Los or is it obstructed. 4)The experiance of the spotter and gun crew. I'm not sure how all of this is modeled in CM but it seems they have taken these factors into account since the time between the spotting rounds(yes it can be more than one) and the barrage varies. The US army was very adept at putting arty on a target in WW2. They would coordinate attacks so that various guns at different distances would arrive on target at the same time.Try this in CM with 60,82mm morters and 105,s etel. It's tough to do but when you can bring several batteries down on a target at once it is VERY effective. "No man ever won a war by dieing for his country.
