Agree with your "one and only post".  The problem with the Ukraine thread is that it has degenerated into the same few people who have committed themselves to the "inevitable Ukraine victory" without any plan to do so - other than the pathetic forlorn hope that the Russian state will disintegrate.   

I have visited USSR and after the fall, I have relatives married to Russians, have visited some satellite nations and talked to ordinary people there about the situation.  But, I found that no one was interested.  It's not worth making a post on the subject as he thread has become a mouthpiece for fanatics who have no interest in opposing views.  They seem to have no idea that Russians think differently and that the west/US is making the same mistake as in Vietnam - a failure to understand the Vietnamese determination and ability to suffer losses... win the battles, lose the war.  Of course it doesn't help that the moderator is the BF owner who threatens to ban anyone who disagrees.
