I have played CMBB for about two weeks now, and I have got to say it does not seem as much fun as CMBO. Maybe I am still in the learning curve (Very shallow and slow for me right now). It appears that the Russian equipment, especially tanks have absolutley no chance against any kind of Axis Armour. In my last game as Russians, I lost 4 BT5's and 2 BT 7's to stupid PSW 231 armed with just a 20 mm gun. All my BT's were facing the PSW at 600 meters and firing away - no hits, all BT's got smoked in two turns. When playing Axis I seem to be able to beat, or at least have a good even battle against the AI - so is the game balanced properly ?? Anyone willing to share tips for using Russian armor/ equipment against Axis ??

Wow - - Pretty drastic action just to install a Video card. However you are probably correct, here is a direct quote from the Video cards web site - All Voodoo upgraders take notice. Important note about voodoo cards and 3DFX One of the problems we have encountered when replacing Voodoo cards, Glide Drivers, and 3DFX drivers is when installing new video cards and their drivers is that you need to uninstall the old ones completely - the problem is that the old ones are never completely removed from the registry. The only remedy for this is to format the hard drive after backing up all important files on the PC. Then reinstall windows and then the video card. This will correct a multitude of issues, seen and unseen. This is currently the only remedy to fix this that we know of at this time

Schrullenhaft - As I couldn't figure out how to unistall the SIS drivers (No1 job), I did the rest as you described again no sucess. Can you tell me how to remove the SIS drivers so I can try again. A couple of things happened during this last process: 1) Couldn't remove all N*.* from windows/system - got message that about 3 were being used. 2) When booting to PCI SVGA - got only the option for VGA. 3) After re-install of 8.1 - did not get a re-boot message.

Thanks again Schrullenhaft. I Downloaded the agp110 file - got a DOS screen when I ran it - is this OK ?? Saw dozens of nv*.* files under windows/system - all with todays date - so I left them alone. Did the add remove progs stuff - nothing there. No display related Un-install progs apparent anywhere. Only thing in device manager is the current vid display driver Went to regedit and found an old 3dfx key - removed it. I then removed driver and got machine in standard VGA, then installed the 30.82's and fired up again - still exactly the same result - CM can't find desk top settings. One strange thing - when I go to the DX diagnostic, the screen changes giving me a "Window Pane view (Not my normal desktop display. Does this give any clues ?? Getting despaerate now as all my CM opponents think I have deserted them !!

Thanks for the suggestions - Could I impose on you for a bit more help: I have Win 98 Plus as OS MB is K7S5A (SIS I think)with 1.8gb Athlon The tabs in DX are greyed out 1) How do I ensure old drivers are properly removed ? 2) Can you give me guidance on determining and updating the Chipset and drivers.

IronChef - Desk top is at 1024X780 with 32 bit color setting, CM won't recognize this ?? I thought I was "Upgrading" not "DownGrading" by getting bigger, better, faster AGP vs my old PCI Voodoo LOL !!

Desk top is set at 1024X780 Strange thing is it worked fine yesterday ??? - Only change I made was to set BIOS from PCI to AGP as primary video. Couldn't find a solution in search - anyone know what's up here

My White river bed is now all colors which shimmer as I pan the view ?? Win 98, Voodoo 3000, Asus Mother board with VIA chipset gave the White riverbed Motherboard died two days ago, so replaced with ECS Elite SIS735; chipset, 2000+ AMD CPU, now River bed is all colors and quite horrible ?? Should I get a new Graphics card - Which one ??

Just some feedback - since loading the VIA patch as suggested, I have not had any sound problems in about 24 hours of game play over the last two weeks

Thanks for the advise Schrullenhaft. Yes I do have the VIA chipset, I downloaded and installed the patch. Now I guess I have to wait and see if the problem still occurs - could be months I suppose, even then "Will I ever know if this patch fixed a problem that only happens a few times each year "??

I have one of those nasty problems that happens only occaisionally. Playing CM on my Machine, (Win 98, Athlon 850 mHz; Soundblaster live, 250 Mg RAM), and I get a singing noise in the left speaker, computer locks up solid. I THINK it occurs with a certain combination of sounds from the CM battle field, but can't be sure. Anyone got an idea what it might be or how I could try to trace the problem.

In a PBEM I am playing right now, my Bazooka had a clean shot from a house at 20 yards into the rear of a Tiger that was stationary. Got a penetration but ZERO damage. The Tiger backed away, then next turn came in with guns blazing - I was as "Sick-as-a-Parrot"!!!!!!!

My question on PIATS got a lot more response than I expected - great advice in all kinds of situations - thanks to all. My current game is in farmland and infantry only, so based on most of the comments, these PIATS are not going to do me much good - never mind, must soldier on and hope for the best.

I recently got handed about 7 PIATS by the computer in an "Infantry" game ?? They seem to be useless against ground troops, why are they considered suitable for Infantry only battles ?? Also, in other battles were Armour was allowed, these PIATS coud never hit anything, and when they did, very little damage caused. Anyone got a bit of advise on how best to use these things.

Jeepers-Creepers, having read some of the postings on this subject I probably committed some of these "GAMEY-CRIMES" without ever knowing I was doing it. For instance I often use a fast jeep to RECON, I thought that was what they were for - if not what else does one do with them??. My appologies to any opponents who consider my tactics GAMEY. As there does not appear to be any agreed procedures and rule on the subject, I guess it's up to individuals to let others know if they think there opponent is playing Gamey and adjust play accordingly.

Schrullenhaft - Thanks again for your help, I really thought I had fixed the problem by removing a "Net-to-phone" device that I use for overseas calls, this resulted in consistant IP numbers. Also your positive "Ping" response sounded encouraging. But I still can't Host, I can play if opponent hosts. One thing I have not yet done is to try and host to a different person (Other than my current opponent) - any offers from someone ??

Schrullenhaft - I think I found out what the problem is - will you please try a Ping once more at this new IP 66.24.200.156

Thanks Schrullenhaft for the "Ping" - Computer has been on all day. Yes IP address has stayed the same for several days now. I assume to find out about the router forwarding to port 7023 I need to contact my ISP (RoadRunner)or is this something I can find out for myself.

Hi Sturner - thanks for the info' my "Imternal" IP is 192.168.8.2 I tried using the IP number that the world sees as you and others suggested (64.24 206 120), no luck so far with one of my regular opponents. I would welcome someone else who is sure that their system is in good shape trying to connect to my IP - any offers? Please email me to set up a time awillis@berkshire.rr.com

I use cable modem. I did have a regular game opponent try me on the IP - He could not connect, we don't yet know if it was a problem at his end or mine just yet.

I used to be able to host IP games without any problems - now I can't and don't know why. One thing is strange my IP number has changed from what is was originally. Also this new number that I get from WINIPCFG is the same as what shows up when waiting for opponent to connect. BUT when I got to web site that tells you what your computer IP is it is something different again..Anyone know how I can try to sort this out. CM without IP is cruel and unusual punishment.

Thanks for the help Mr. Compassion. I actually do quite well with Flamethrowers - the trick is to keep them hidden by Sneaking and Crawling with a good stealth HQ. Then, when near a target do not try to get LOS, if LOS is established "Boom" the Flamethrower is instantly killed. Just use "Area Fire", the spread of flame and devestation is huge. Attention future and current opponents - This information is not to be used against me.

AAhh where did my picture go - I spent over an hour researching FAQ's to figure out how to do this !!

Got a great shot of my Flamethrower "Accidently" setting fire to a knocked out Panzer. He was actually Toasting some German troops about 20 yards away from the tank when it suddenly burst into flames. I also noticed that the road is actually on fire - does the game engine know that the knocked out tank would have fuel spilled all over the road and would catch fire with a suitable ignition source. This game continuously suprizes me - It's just great !!
