I have thoroughly enjoyed the two demo scenarios of CMAK - it's nice to get back to the western theater (no offense to our Russian comrades). I couldn't help but noticing though, that when a US rifle squad is selected, the "rifle grenade" icons look just a little too "phallic." Is it just me or did anyone else notice this? Perhaps one of the graphics designers had just finished looking at a Victoria's Secret catalog when they built the rifle grenade icon. Again, great game - can't wait to get it.

- BUMP - I was just trying to find some good winter mods on CMMODS, and it appears there are NO T-34 winter mods! (Or, am I missing something?) Winter is fast approaching here in the northeast US, so I wanted to get in the mood.

What games do you play besides Combat Misson?
Scooby33 replied to Aragorn2002's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
How many others have a TON of games that just sit and collect dust (like myself)? Out of roughly 30 games, I play these four consistently: - CMBB - CMBO - Medieval: Total War - Medal of Honor, Allied Assault I used to be a huge flight sim fanatic, and I have the latest and greatest (e.g. FS2002, IL-2, etc); but I now find them very boring! -
Hi All, I'd appreciate some some quick thoughts (i.e. a listing) of your "Top 3" PBEM scenarios and/or operations for CMBB. I'm just getting used to the game, and it would be helpful to know what the best PBEM stuff is! Thanks in advance!

Bump (again) Drooling over the prospect of a comprehensive sound pack mod for CMBB....

* Frustration sets in * Has anyone discovered a fix or tweak for the Catalyst Drivers later than v 2.2? The newer drivers work great with all my games...except Combat Mission...which is of course my favorite! I will have to bite the bullet soon and revert to the older drivers I guess....
-
On a positive note though, the 3.0 drivers are great for other games that are action-oriented. Such a dilemma...
-
Yup - unfortunately, I think they have the same problems. I installed the 3.0 drivers yesterday (Radeon 7200), and the same color/graphic anomalies exist.

I'd like to draw your attention to a new CMBO scenario called Retreat to Koblenz, which was created by Strontium Dog (who, by the way, is also an outstanding mod-maker). I helped him with the PBEM playtesting, and I found it to be an outstanding scenario. Check it out - I think you PBEM'ers will enjoy it! It is at the CMBO scenario depot: http://ns9.super-hosts.com/~dragonlair.net/combatmission/

Artillery realism question
Scooby33 replied to Strontium Dog's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I'm in the middle of playing Strontium Dog's scenario that he references, and it is excellent! He and I were pondering the historical accuracy of using 8" artillery as part of a "hasty" attack by a company-size combined arms force. I had wondered if a couple 81mm mortar spotters would be more historically accurate. (But - the 8" stuff is a lot of fun to use, and it makes a big mess!) -
Any die hard CMBOers not buying CMBB?
Scooby33 replied to Chad Harrison's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I definitely will buy CMBB in the future, but I'm in no rush. I just started PBEM with CMBO, and it has breathed new life into that game for me. -
Has anyone played CMBB on a P3 500 or 600?
Scooby33 replied to Scooby33's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Thanks for the posts guys. I think I'll go ahead and buy it - sounds like with some tweaking I can get it to run as smooth as CMBO. If not, then I guess it's just the excuse I need to dip into the rainy day money to buy a shiny new PC. -

Hi Seimer, My video card is the first-generation ATI Radeon with 64MB of RAM (not sure of the model number). Also, I've got 256MB of system memory. Thanks for the response!! -
German 88mm Puppchen AT weapon
Scooby33 replied to Scooby33's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Thanks for the info Mike. It sure surprised me when the puppchen fired. I was expecting a "bang," but instead I heard a "whoosh." Go figure. -
I have one simple question regarding the puppchen. What the hell is it? Is it a gun, or as my PBEM opponent put it..."a panzerfaust on steriods?" I've found some pictures on the net, but no description as to the type of weapon, how it works, etc. I had never heard of it until the battle I'm currently playing. Anyone have any interesting info?

Confirmed use of shotguns in combat ETO & PTO

You all might laugh, but when I read this question, the first game that popped into my head was "Second Front" by Gary Grigsby. This was an early SSI game published around 1990. I know it's totally outdated and archaic by today's standards, but I still remember how much I enjoyed playing it! Maybe it's because it was one of the first true computer wargames...and the novelty factor "hooked" me. Whatever. Anyway, fast-forward to the present... I really enjoy East Front II and West Front by Talonsoft, although I think these are really considered "tactical" level games. I know that the mechanics are perhaps oversimplified, but for me, the scale, the historical "feel" and the miniatures-ish look of the units is perfect. The Operational Art of War (Wargame of the Year Edition) is a great operational-divisional scale game. Again, I know the game mechanics may not be as hardcore as some "grognards" would like (where the hell did that term come from?), but I think it has the perfect mix of playability, realism and scope. Sorry for the verbose response...blame it on the Shipyards that I've had (Mainers will know what that is).

Board game: Panzer Leader by AH (70's) Computer game: Wargames (ColecoVision)!! If that doesn't count, then it was Second Front by SSI (on my hotrod 286).

OT: Anybody still playing SP?
Scooby33 replied to coralsaw's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I tried to get interested in SP all over again once SPWaW was released - but I couldn't. The reason why is that I think the Talonsoft games (West Front & East Front) are MUCH better than SP. The unit encyclopedia is excellent, the maps are better, the scale is larger...I could go on and on. Anyway - I really enjoy CM for the tactical stuff, but when I want a larger scale battle, West Front/East Front is the way to go. SP seems very dated...even with the new sounds. -
Is anyone else having trouble with the link to download the new patch (version 1.1)? When I click on the link to begin the patch download, my system hangs for a moment, then I get an "Object Handler Error" dialog box. I tested several of the other download links and they work fine. Any ideas?

I think it's a proprietary chipset. When you read the specs, the chipset/graphics processing unit is listed as being "RADEON" (trademark) - and it uses something that they are calling the "Charisma Engine." Schrull - thanks for the tip re the new drivers. I didn't know that Rage3D website existed. The driver they have posted is a newer version than the beta posted on the ATI site. I'll give it a shot.

I just installed CM, and have been playing it successfully without any problems, except one: the detailed unit description "pop up" box FLICKERS...as does some of the in-game text (unit ID's, hit chances, etc). The demo had no such flickering. I think it might be related to my new video card, which is an ATI Radeon 64DDR AGP. Has anyone had this problem? It is annoying!
