Ah so not a “crash” as in the game ends and you are back at the desktop?

I’ve had instances where the game appears to “stutter” (my term for it) where the screen locks up, no mouse movement and the same note is played for an extended period.

After about 5 - 10 secs the game resumes.

Is this similar to what you are experiencing?

I put it down to playing big scenarios and have logged a report on it, but wasn’t aware that the smaller scenarios were effected too.

Yeah, that's basically what's happening.....It seems random...I've had it happen twice within seconds of each other and then sometimes several minutes may pass before the next event.

I use Windows XP on an 8600GTS card. I'm going to try disabling my three other cores (Q6600) to see if this a remnant glitch from running in multi-core mode. </font>

  2. I'm very happy with the patch. Started up the tutorial missions to relearn it, and everything worked much smoother and I won all the missions (for the first time).

Saw the new trees and bush affecting line of sight nicely. In the defence mission, there was a PZ sitting back firing it's 20mm at my rightmost AT gun. It was hidden by bushes, no LoS from my guns, but it's LoS was plainly limited, as it was not accurate.

Finally, it crept forward through a bush line and my guns immediately saw it and knocked it out. Loving it.

  3. After patch 1.03 I finally managed to find some time to apply to this great game. Went through the training campaign and then tried out the Allah's Fist armour scenario.

What fun that was. I sent each M1 section up each edge of the valley but not beyond the ridges, and when the left flank started getting active, my right flank section was able to attract their attention (and make a few kills) from a static hull-down position, while my left flank section drove forward hard into the flank of the enemy thrust coming from the left.

This worked pretty well, but just when I thought I was in the mopping up phase having cleverly fixed and flanked, a big thrust from my right flank slammed into my forward section, knocking out two of my three M1s. The last of the three was immobilised and ended up facing the attack coming from the right side of the map. It's left side was protected by a knocked-out T72 but it was getting hit lots from the front and I figured it was only a matter of time before it died.

Accordingly, I quickly pushed my right section forward onto the shoulder of the ridge on the right, planning to appear suddenly on the flank of the enemy thrust and brass them up while they were occupied killing the immobilised M1.

However, that tenacious M1 crew held on and grimly, while getting clobbered by all sorts of tank rounds from their front, and holding off a couple of rogue BMPs to their left rear with the .50, knocked out most of the approaching enemy armour.

My right section of rescuers crested the ridge and had only a single tank left to kill!

That was an exciting few minutes. The graphics and sounds were excellent and I thought the scenario was well-balanced. If I'd been a little more aggressive and got too far forward, I would have been seriously caught out and outnumbered.

Is there a way to check individual unit stats (kills and the like) at the end of the map like in the old CMBO? After the scenario ended, I really wanted to see how many kills that immobilised M1 had made, but couldn't see how.

Anyway, thanks for a great product, Battlefront!

    Ahhhh! Penny drops.
  5. Thanks for the replies Martin, I think that's what I'm doing, giving them too long move orders.

Re the reassigning, how do you drag them? I see a screen with what I assume are my left-over troops on the right side and when I click on each, I see more detail on the left, including options to promote or award them. I tried dragging my guys cards down into other squads, but they wouldn't shift. I know I'm overlooking something simple, but can't see it.

    thanks

  6. I'm enjoying playing and learning this game, but I'd appreciate some advice please on keeping my infantry squads together.

I was playing the first Poland campaign mission from the German side and into the last stages of the fight I had knots of mismatched troops all over the shop. I noticed at one point after reinforcements had arrived that the squad leader was miles behind the rest of his unit, and on another occasion, the squad leader had moved far in front of his men (and subsequently got brassed up by the baddies). I must be doing something wrong.

I select the squad by double-clicking on the squad leader (don't know the rank, this is the first time I've played the German side in any wargame I think), then pass my order (usually a move command, wedge formation and then dispersed, if they might come under fire).

Is there a need to stop them from time to time to rally them or keep them in formation? Towards the end I was having to draw a box around likely groups and give orders that way - when I double-clicked on a squad leader's icon, I often found his squad was scattered all over the map, with individuals mixed in with other squads, widely separated. Right-clicking on a destination showed a formation spread across 500 metres!

Any advice gratefully received. Also any hints on reassigning the fellas who took over captured guns. I understand from the manual I need to put my less impressive guys onto those crews for when they are taken off me, but I don't know how to do that.

  7. I'm enjoying those movies of yuors - please keep them up! This was just made me want to fire up TOW and try not to suck so much. I like the idea of the black and white bits, but I think they are much too contrasty at times.

Enjoy the trip to Moscow you'll no doubt win!

Is that the Julian or Gregorian calendar Speedy? :D

ps - downloading mine tonight! Demo looks pretty good on my old system. Some Aussie multiplayer perhaps?
