  1. Good idea ...I put 3 large flags into the German base. The US near the crossroad did stop the German reinforcement like last time but by the end of the game they got only 17% victory. It looks like an excellent step in the good direction. But the German are still too defensive around the crossroad and some of their reinforcement still do not move toward the crossroad to attack the US flag and regain a German flag. The idea of transforming the scenario into a mini or 2 phases operation sound a good one .May be this option plus the right number of flags in the right places may give me the result I want. This is my first try to create a scenario and I found the process of challenging and very interesting as much as playing the game . I hope you won't mind to try my scenario once it will be ready ( it may take some time ) Thanks Crockett
  2. Hello MOON Thanks for your answer I tried to put a flag there and played the US . I succeeded to avoid from the German to pass and destroyed almost all of them .What happened is that the flag got the US colors and the US also got 65% victory by the end of the game , which is a very strange result because I was only testing this part of the map and did not moved at all the other US platoons ...they stood just were I put them at the beginning of the game and did not moved one step toward the 2 other objectives !In fact the main objective is supposed to be an anti aircraft base that must be destroyed prior to an air force attack .The victory in this scenario should be achieved only if this base is destroyed or most of it . The two other objectives are important but should not give too much victory points.Victory in the two secondary objective but a partial success only in the main objective should be considered in this scenario as an almost total failure . I may be should change something in the concept of the scenario . About the barbed wire I will do as you said Thanks Crockett
  3. I am creating a scenario in which the US are the attacker . They have three objectives : 1. attack the main objective 2. attack a hill close to the main objective from where some German AT guns protect the main objective. Until now no problems. US attack and German defend Now , the problem : Two other US platoons are securing a crossroad a few miles away from the main attack to avoid German troops and armor to pass and go to reinforce their attacked main objective. The problem seems to be that in this place the German have to act as the attacker ( that what I would like ). As the game is designed as a US attack and German defend...the German in this part of the map attack only the US that attack them or that are closed to them near the crossroad but once they succeeded to kill all the US in this place of the map they do not go by themselves to reinforce the main objective ( all that when playing the US against German AI , in a Pbem there should be no problem each side knowing what they have to do ). There 5 German armor and troops reinforcement from this place...Most of them just stay here without moving until the end of the game I placed victory flags in the main objective only . Other problem : I placed some barbed wire near some German positions .When I open the game to play they are not exactly in the place I put them and not on the same direction. !! Is there a way to make the German being more aggressive in this part of the map ? Or maybe , is it simply impossible to design a scenario in which one side is the attacker in one part of the map but also the defender in an other part of the map ? Thanks Crockett
  4. Try the Patric Ware excellent mini operation "Any port after a storm ". Six excellent battles in which conduct elements of the US 79th division on their way to Cherbourg. The last battle is a big door to door street battle to free the Cherbourg harbor If you are interested I can send you the files. A must! Crockett

  6. My machine is a Pentium II , 350 MHz , 64MB RAM , DirectX8,Leadteck Geforce2 MX with the original drivers ( I did not install the latest drivers because since I got the Geforce everything went cool and I had no problem at all...never !! ). I play with 800X600 Now ,the problem... During the last week , sometime the mouse cursor transform itself into a 2cmX2cm white square. When I quite CM and go back to the desktop ...there is no more mouse pointer.I mean the mouse pointer is still there because when I move the mouse the icons on the screen are responding but the pointer is not visible ! I have to restart the PC.Again, this happens only once a while with no visible reasons Strange, but this happens when I try to create some scenario. Now the best part of the story !! The same thing happened to me 6 months ago but in a very strange way that made me crazy : it was happening only in a particular scenario ( one of the training scenarios when playing the German attacking some hills ) .The strange thing is that this cursor problem was not happening when I tried to play the British side in the same scenario !!! Crazy but true !! ( then I had a Voodo1and ATI card.I solved the problem by changing my preference to 800X600 ) Does someone know how to solve this small problem ? Thanks Crockett
  7. Hello Rune Thanks for the nice package  Cheers Crockett
  8. Hello Rommel I am ready to give it a try ,please be kind and send it over Thanks Crockett
  9. Valley of trouble is one of my preferred scenarios since the Demo and a few days ago I was surprised to find Valley of trouble 2 . I downloaded it but did not play it yet but saw that the map looks the same .Anyone who knows the differences between them ? Thanks Crockett
  10. Hello DeanCO... Congrat ! The first time I saw your Interface mods ( specially the Metal and the clipboard )I said to myself that is was a real pity that you did not design the original CM interface and that Steve and Charles should not ask you but implore you to design the CM2 interface .Well , it's done .It seems almost natural to me. Your fantastic interface design did not of course improve the excellent game's AI nor the great scenarios but greatly improve the visual pleasure ,the ease and the whole gaming pleasure experience . 13. I know that this is a "Tips and Technique" or "Scenario talk" issue but since there are more visits around here I took the liberty to post it here I started an operation yesterday and I need a general tip on using AA unit From the briefing I understand there will be some air strike on my troops and I will have to use a Flak unit. This is the first time I have to use this kind of unit in CM and absolutely do not know how to use it .It looks a bit complicated to use :mounting and dismounting. What is the range that the Flak covers? I mean if I dismount it on the beginning of the map ,will the Flak be an umbrella for my advancing units until the end of the map ? Thanks Crockett

  15. Great !!! Stix may be you did not realize that, but you are my opponent in this game (have a look at my e-mail address ) Or... may be you knew it and your suggestion of driving reverse is a way to transform my bogged state into an immobilized one ? Crockett ( = Jacques ) [This message has been edited by Crockett (edited 03-31-2001).]
  16. Hey,guys Here is the situation First move of a PBEM game ( hello Stix !! )and after 30 meters one of my StuG IIIG got himself bogged . Some players say CM symbolize the unbogging process ( the crew working with shovels... ) during a few turns and if you are lucky you will get unbogged .They say that the rotation + reverse actions only give you a good feeling but do not help you to unbogged. What is the final word ? Crockett [This message has been edited by Crockett (edited 03-31-2001).]
  17. Hey,Head Mahone As you said the password is not a problem .Just do not post movies of games you are playing and have a new password for each new game. Anyway ,I am sure we can trust our opponents Crockett
  18. Is this situation familiar to you ? You just clicked the "send " button of your e-mail software and your next move is on the way to your opponent .Nothing can be done now ! No matter how long it will takes your opponent to reply , it will always be a long , exiting ,nail biter wait. Latter on...There it is : incoming e-mail ... A glance... DavTig_US16.txt : your opponent's move ! With a blend of hope and fear you save the file in your Pbem folder...you hesitate a bit , enter the password and there it is : everything still looks like at the end of the last turn ...except that the Play button is red and waiting for you. During the next 60 seconds you cannot do nothing , just watch !! Your Panzerscreck aim the Hellcat , fire and miss ...Rapid and frightening rotation of the Hellcat turret ...He is smelling your Panzerschreck...Dam why is this F**** G turret turning so fast ? Too late ! Your second missile hit the Target....Hellcat Kaput... Again and again you will hit the playback button for the pleasure to see the missile going out of the Panzerfaust. The excitement of such cool moves could be shared with other gamers if one or more CM sites open a kind of : " The Coolest Pbem Movies " section and permit players to upload their best text files movies ( with the password , the version and maybe a small text explaining the plot of the movie ). Pbem players may post their coolest moves , coolest victory or bitter defeat, deadliest ambush and moves that turned a defeat into a victory or a victory into a humiliating defeat . It could be , not only fun but above all an enlightening experience and a good source of learning .Players may find some inspiration for the next move of their present game or discuss with more experienced player about their move ! The purpose is to show only one or two movies of a game and not some long AAR with 20 movies of a full game. Is there any CM site ready to open such a section ?
  19. Four months passed since I received CM and ten days ago I timidly began my first Pbem game .Watching the first movie of this very first Pbem game was so exciting that I knew I want more . So I searched for a second opponent... Yesterday , I was already playing five games and today I began game number six . I am a bit worried. Is there such a disease called " Pbem addiction " ? How many Pbem games are you simultaneously playing ?

  22. One evening I downloaded 2 demos : Close Combat 5 and Combat Mission . I deleted the CM's demo after a few hours ( what the hell did the reviewers find so great in this crap ?? ) and the next morning I ran to buy CC5 .The same day found in some site a positive review of CC5 which ended like that : " ... CC5 is a game that is fun to play with , but if you have to spend your money one only one Wargame...buy Combat Mission I said to myself that I surely missed something and downloaded CM's demo again and after a few hours made my order. I played the demo until I received the full game. What about CC5 ?.I have completed only 5 missions ( still installed in my hard drive ) but since I received the CM's disc I forgot about CC5 or other games ( except BG2 !! )
  23. I sent the setup of a PBEM game to a player using Hotmail and I received a message telling me that : This Message was undeliverable due to the following reason: Your message was not delivered because the destination computer refused to accept it (the error message is reproduced below). This type of error is usually due to a mis-configured account or mail delivery system on the destination computer; however, it could be caused by your message since some mail systems refuse messages with invalid header information, or if they are too large. Your message was rejected by mc5.law13.hotmail.com for the following reason: Transaction failed I found something in the forum about Zipping files when the sender works with Hotmail, but the file I sent him was only 2.48KB ? How can I successfully send files when playing PBEM when my opponent works with hotmail? Thanks Crockett
