1. Greetings,

I am having problems connecting to others to play

IP games in CMBO and probably CMBB demo as well.

I am on a cable modem and have played at least

one game on TCP/IP but I believe that was before

I installed ZoneAlarm. I am able to ping known

open game IPs, but CM will always repond with

a cannot connect to IP error. I have tried

    disabling ZoneAlarm but no luck.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Bobo

  2. Can I get a copy please?

I am wrapping up the finishing touches on a really cool Artillery Test Range. On this test range (playing as Allies) you are supplied with four each of every type of artillery including 60 mm and 81 mm mortars. The FO's are Elite, come with maximum load of artillery shells and are guided by a fully decked out Battalion Command Unit and a fully decked out Company Command Unit (both elite) FO's are located on a elevated firebase at one end of the map. There is line of site over the entire map which is broken up by a small town, a river and broken forests which provides several natural chokepoints and some wide open areas that the enemy has to cross. The enemy I have been testing with is a German Infantry Battalion and a German Armored Infantry Battalion. The test range is excellent for developing your timing in calling down artillery strikes on moving opponents - Plus its just dang cool to watch 8 105 artillery pieces decimate a dozen halftracks in under a minute or watch 4 8 inchers drive infantry away from a bridge. Like I said, I am almost finished with this (it is a lot of fun to play with!) and I'm sure some of you will want to check it out. If you do, let me know and I will send you a copy.

  3. Greetings,

I was wondering how much interest there would be in a stat tracking feature that kept track of your wins vs the AI and vs other players and as the Germans vs the US and what not. Maybe casualties and vehicle

kills and hit percentage and number of turns played. Time with CM open. All sorts of stats.

I got the idea from NCAA2K2 on the playstation 2. You have a profile that you play as each time and it keeps tons of stats for you each time you play. It keeps track

of all sorts of football stats and I was thinking that it would be great to at least be able to keep track of number of games played in CM. I am keeping a hand count, but sometimes I forget.

    Any thoughts?

  4. Greetings,

I saw this on a mailing list for another game this morning and had a bit of a chuckle.

If any of youse mugs have a copy of Combat Mission you'd be willing to trade

away, let me know. I have the following, so make me an offer.

    Shogun: Total War

    Delta Force

    Allegiance

    Earth:2150

I don't know these games, but suffice to say

that I ain't trading CM for nothing. Well

maybe NCAA Football 2002 today, 10 days before the release and the PS2 to play it on.

  5. Greetings,

Back when CM was first being worked on we were treated with Penetration diagrams in multi colors. There is one if the FAQ that I was just reading which reminded me about them. I seem to recall that there was a comment that BTS would include them on the CD if there was room. There wasn't of course. I was wondering if BTS might post them for download either all at once (HUGE) or in more

downloadable friendly chunks. Anyone else interested in these?

    Thanks,

  6. Schrullenhaft,

You paint a depressing picture for transparency on a laptop. For anyone else that may be interested in laptop CMing as I am, Dell offers a 32MB 4X AGP NVIDIA GeForce2 Go video card on the Inspiron 8000 line. Will it give you transparency? I am not sure. If anyone out there buys one or has one for work and can verify transparency on one of those laptops I would be thankful. I probably will buy one of those near the end of the year (assuming I can pay for my wedding and a new laptop).

I know, I know, just buy a desktop. Sadly that doesn't fit my needs.

Thanks for the help Schullenhaft. Very informative.

  7. Thanks Schrullenhaft for the reply. I went and got the "latest" drivers from Compaq and of course I still have no transparency or fog effects. No big concern there.

But.... from what you wrote the NVIDIA chipsets that can be ordered in the new Dell

    laptops may work better?

I guess a follow-up question would be will a 16MB NVIDIA video card show transaprency and/or fog well or will I need a 32MB NVIDIA video card? I will probably by another

lap top in the future, but if I do I want to

make damn sure that I get transparency and fog.

    Thanks,

    Bobo

  8. Greetings,

I am happily playing CM on a Compaq Presario Laptop with a 8MB video card, but I don't get

transparency effects. My question is has anyone purchased one of the newer laptops with 16MB or 32MB video cards and if so do you get transparency?

I was pretty happy with no transparency until I was on vacation and playing CM on an old (pre iMac) Mac laptop and voila there is transparency with at best a 2MB video card. Now I want my transparency. But I need it in

    a laptop.

    Thanks,

  9. I will add my voice to having one go to place where one could get a ton of scenarios. I was disappointed that Admiral Keith had taken

down his mega pack. It sure would have been easier that searching through a ton of web sites and downloading scenarios one at a time. I can live with the searching though.

One thing that would be nice for CM2 would be for the scenario access through CM2 to allow for folders which would make organization of scenarios much easier. Right now I have to page through 11 pages of battles and I only have about 240 scenarios with the installed and my saved games and the shipped scenarios. Plus I only have the one liner to describe the scenario. It would be great to organize the hundreds of scenarios into folders and be able to access them easily. That way if I am looking for one of Rune's cool scenarios I can have all of his in the "Rune Folder". Any thoughts?

  10. Gyrene,

I felt the same thing after first playing CMBO. Playing some of the ASL conversion scenarios that I once played in ASL is a real hoot. The ASL maps are so flat compared to normal CM maps that I wondered how the hell I ever played ASL and thought that is was accurate. I am still on the ASL mailing list and I see these guys babble on about die roll mods and what not and I shake my head. I would much rather play CMBO than ASL and I would never have said that with any other computer game until now. The best thing about CMBO vs ASL is that you don't have to find opponents of questionable hygiene habits and spend 6 to 8 hours with them hunched over a board tweaking your back and neck in terrible contortions. As far as modelling as much stuff as ASL, I think the modelling in CMBO is much better than ASL. Things just feel right. I would agree with keeping ASL for the scenario ideas and chapter H is pretty interesting.

  11. Well two favorite things. The first is the

quick battle generator. Is there a more useful function on any other wargame? In a few short clicks a new scenario on a new map.

This word is used to often these days but the quick battle generator is awesome. If only we could use it on our own created maps.

My second favorite thing is when two tanks

kill each other at the same time. I love

snapping to each tanks view and watching it

fire right before it is taken out by the tank that it is going to kill.

  12. Greetings,

How long does a normal scenario take to complete? I have been playing smaller scenarios and I never have enough time to

complete them so the save feature is great.

I guess the question is how long does a "normal" turn take for you to complete? I probably spend about 10 minutes for setup in

smaller scenarios and then about 5 minutes for the original orders phase. The next orders phases typically don't take as long as many units will be continuing prior orders.

Movie playback review time usually takes about 3 minutes on average. So I probably average about 4 minutes per turn. Any comments?

  13. Major,

Thanks again for the great reponse time. I love it, I get a response from the author of the game within 30 minutes of posting. I will instruct the xmas purchasing agent to proceed.

  14. Major,

Does the CD contain both Mac and PC versions?

I used to have the Mac version from Arsenal, but am more into PCs now, but one never knows when there will be Mac available to play and I like having both flavors.

    Thanks,

    Bobo

  15. Thanks Schrullenhaft. I need a laptop if

I want to play any games. It is legal for me to play games on the laptop on the couch with the SO while she watches TV, but not to sit in the den and play games on a desktop PC. Sooo..... I need a cheap laptop that still runs CM. I have access to NT4.0 laptops but of course CM will not run on them. Thanks to everyone for the responses. Keep 'em coming.
