What about Leningrad? I think that some reinforcement is ok, but yes, it is annoying when it is working against you.

A lot of it has to do with hindsight. The strategic bombing offensive against Germany could have been much more effective if the proper targets had been chosen.
Is the fact that the civil population is being made suffer in a totalitarian state shown in SC by loss of MPP? Or should the results be strictly lost production? Are the results worth it to placate the Russians when there is no real diplomacy in SC? Is there political pressure to "hit back with something" in the democratic states in SC?
These are complex factors that Hubert had to contend with. His answer is his answer, not the Gospel, and the scenario editor beckons those with differing opinions. Crank up the bomber tech level. Give the Brits more bombers. Crank up the German AA level. Give the Germans more fighters. Lead the Finns to world domination. I say, go for it, publish the results and I will sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Of course, the change is not an accident. I think we are looking at either Hubert or one of the Beta boys.

How about this:
Random US entry, and automatic after December 7th 1941.
If entry is made before 12-7-41, MPP available for European Theater is increased markedly until 12-7-41.

That idea, of having bonuses specific to each country, is terrific. That could make for some very interesting results.

How about the sound of papers shuffling?

Well, my first crack as the allies '39 ended with the Russians in Berlin and the Yanks in Rome, a couple months later than the historical date. My total was 73. Default setting and FOW.
Also, noticed that there are demos for CM and AA included on the CD. Am I free to distribute the demos to potential purchasers?
-
Anybody else going to replace it?
-
I am in the midst of the 1939 game as the allies, default, FOW.
The Germans have built no subs, and have had not much luck in Russia but I am having the devils own time kicking the Italians out of Africa. The Axis seems totally uninterested in Sealion, but perhaps that is because I very agressively destroyed thier naval forces.
Very addicting game. The impulse to play just one more turn is irresistable.

What are your impressions? AI too weak? Any nuggets or suprises in the manual?
-
Superb. Thank you.

Gameless in Seattle.

Good question. What does one gain by holding France? Does the German plunder go down? What about US entry?
Would a short, sharp fight that causes German\Italian casualties be more effective in the long haul?

I made a mortar out of a wiffle ball bat, a sheet music stand and some duct tape. It launched small green apples, powered by firecrackers. A state trooper decided that small children should not have such things, but he was very impressed with the prism sight (toy periscope) and the fact that we were hitting targets several hundred yards away with our apple-bombs.
I think he must have been a mortarman in the military, he had a very keen interest in our setup.

Bill, that is a good idea in regards to the '39 campaign. Some more latitude in strategic direction would add interest.
The garden of ideas regarding strategy in WWII is a well tilled one, but some articles on how strategy relates to the game would be welcome.
There will be a group of people who look at SC as a game to be won, or played against an opponent with as close a contest as the game will allow. Some will view it as a tool that lets you tinker with history. Others will look at it as a kind of puzzle to be solved. Scenario designers will be able to provide these groups with fresh challenges, so I think there is room for additions here.

Bill Macon has a good idea. It should be considered for a patch.

That link links me back to this thread, it is rather like the Bill Murray flick, "Groundhog Day".
I was hoping for a list of posts, put together from the forum. Something like,
Why are there no airborne troops?
As to the scenario contest and postal match, those should be pretty straightforward.

As they said in "The Right Stuff"
"Maybe their Germans are better than our Germans"

The Germans invaded Norway April 9th, Norway surrendered May 1st, and the allies evacuated June 8th, the Norwegian forces capitulating on June 10th. German attacks in earnest against France began about May 10th.
So, it looks like the historical sequence is going to be tough to achieve.

Also, as folks get their hands on the game the amount of questions posted will skyrocket. Perhaps a FAQ or anthology of useful posts is in order?
-
Hmm, another lucky devil with the game. What do you think of the full version?
-
Hey, the way that cd cover and disc say "European Theater" makes one almost believe that the makers had another theater in mind for round two...
-
Any thoughts on settings for tournament play? How about a "postal match" against the AI?
How about a little contest for best user made scenario?
For those lucky devils on the East Coast, how about your impressions of the manual? Any secrets revealed?
The CM mission boards have seperate sections for tech issues, tips, opponents wanted and scenario discussions. Any thoughts on subdividing the SC board at all?
Paratroopers?
