  1. I know what you mean; the yellow grass tends to stand out a lot when placed next to the green. The stock graphics do a decent job of blending, but maybe that's because the tones seem to be quite yellow overall. I think that preview looks like a good compromise. I figure yellow grass in Normandy is a mix of green/brown/yellow, more like a patch of grass that isn't doing well for some reason, rather than a parched swath of completely dead dry grass. It should blend in better with the hi-res green.
  2. I was a bit on the fence about the look of this mod (tremendous work, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't giving me a Normandy vibe), but the hi-res grass makes a huge difference. Not only is it prettier, it's somewhat darker and a little richer as well, and that looks a lot more like the Normandy I remember. If you would see fit to make a yellow grass version with the same adjustments (a bit darker and richer than the low-res), I'd be thrilled.
  3. With two weeks left to go, there are only three games still active: Bracket 1: futon river crossing v. poesel71 Zebulon Pleasure Beast II v. anton meise Bracket 2: sfhand v. c3k Seven American wins to six German at this point, BTW.
  4. Twelve down, four to go, with a shade over two weeks to play.
  5. Ten games down, six to go. Five US wins and five German so far for anyone keeping count.
  6. Just a quick reminder that there are three weeks remaining to complete the Round One games. So far nine games have been reported complete; seven remain active.
  7. Yep, four wins for each side so far. I'm not expecting such extraordinarily balanced results to continue throughout, but it is nice to see that things aren't horribly off.
  8. The deadline for completion of this round is Thursday 2 February 2012.
  9. Well, we're now at the halfway mark for games finished. Each bracket has four games completed and four remaining. Our winners so far are: Bracket 1 Felix_45 Cogust berto Wreck Bracket 2 funkeesax sluggo337 dan/california Odin
  10. I was planning to post an update once half the games were completed. We are just shy of that right now. Ideally I'd be able to keep an up-to-date list in the first post in the thread, but the editing limitations on this board make that impossible.
  11. Everyone please remember that game results should be reported directly to me via email by both players.
  12. I tend to agree that small scenarios like this one - small in terms of both map and force - can be decided in a single exchange, or they can play out as a sort of cat-and-mouse game, depending on the style of play and a good degree of luck (or lack thereof). The follow-on scenarios are built on the same map, so no surprises there, but the force structures and missions are quite different. I think each one will play out rather differently and be diverse enough to keep people interested. I'm looking forward to reading the AARs. Carry on.
  13. There is no perfect scoring system. Some, notably the Rumblings of War series, have a very complex system in place to try to get as close as possible to balanced results. I opted for a very simple and admittedly flawed system because, as I noted in the original discussion, this was a very impromptu and informal tournament, and I have little interest in spending any additional time or effort calculating scores. The scenarios were designed to be balanced as much as possible, but goes without saying that some may have lopsided results, for a whole variety of reasons. I think once we have the first round results, and especially the associated AARs, we will have a far better sample from which to draw conclusions.
  14. I'm glad people are enthusiastic enough about the scenario to want to discuss it, but please be careful about releasing details, even minor ones, while games are still ongoing. You can talk about it endlessly in the AAR thread (when it opens).
  15. Thanks for the bump. Can I assume that the deafening silence is simply due to everyone being engrossed in their respective games, and not everyone having given up?
  16. No problem if you want to run longer. Everyone has their own style; I'm sure those reading will enjoy the variety.
  17. No particular AAR requirements. It should give enough detail that someone reading it who has not yet played the scenario can follow the course of the battle, but it need not go turn by turn. Pictures are nice, but not required. Put another way, in the words of an old instructor, it should be like a woman's skirt: long enough to cover everything, but short enough to keep it interesting.
  18. As results have started to come in (almost half of the first bracket games are complete), and people may be starting their AARs (I've already received one), I just wanted to clarify that part of the process. I will post a separate Round One AAR thread in this forum when all the first round games are complete; you should then post your AARs in that thread. You may email them to me in advance if you wish, but there is no need to do this. If you do email your AAR to me, I will ask that you repost it in the thread rather than relying on me to do so. Thanks.
  19. Steve has locked the aforementioned thread and removed the offending information (thanks, Steve). Please just drop the subject and proceed with your games.
  20. Since the prevailing sentiment seems to be in favor of continuing, I'll keep it going. Thanks for your continuing support.
  21. Well, now that operational security has been compromised by spoilers in another thread, I'm inclined to just dump this. Not much point in spending the time and effort to administer a tournament after the active scenario has been discussed in public. I'll be releasing the scenario pack shortly for any who want to play the other ones I had planned. Sorry for any inconvenience to everyone else; it is unfortunately beyond my ability to stop players from posting spoilers. Thanks for participating.
