  1. SPOILERS BELOW! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . So I am playing the First Clash at Cambres scenario via PBEM with a friend. I have my tanks moving in two quartets up both sides of the large forest area. The quartets consisted of: 1st Quartet ----------- 3 x Reg Sherman II 1 x Reg Sherman IIC Firefly 2nd Quartet ----------- 3 x Reg Sherman V 1 x Reg Sherman VC Firefly Well first run-in with the enemy tanks consisting of two Vet Panzer IVGs and one Vet Panzer IVH went like this: - lost one Sherman II - killed one Panzer IVG - killed other Panzer IVG - lost two Sherman IIs to Panzer IVH that went around a corner - lost IIC Firefly to the Panzer IVH - Panzer IVH taken out a couple turns later by combo of bomber and 81mm mortar The 3 tank losses were quick. This Panzer was 3 for 3 shots with about 8 seconds between each shot. So I thought "Whoa, that sucked... I'll take the right flank with my Sherman V quartet!" So in echelon formation I came rolling around a small clump of scattered trees to find the last Vet Panzer IVH hiding. He immediatly with 15 seconds has my two front tanks burning (Sherman V and VC Firefly). The beginning of the next turn he has the other two burning in 20 seconds with only one miss. My tanks got a total of one shot off... So now I have 8 burning tanks with nothing to show... Where did my tanks go? stimpy [This message has been edited by stimpy (edited 02-01-2001).] [This message has been edited by stimpy (edited 02-01-2001).]
  2. I saw a preview recently in a theatre for "Captain Corelli's Mandolin". It seemed OK. It has alot of mushy scenes. I was getting bored until they showed a Hetzer come rolling into town bashing stuff over. I felt like cheering or something... As for Stalingrad, I got my copy (DVD) from Columbia House in one of those 6 DVDs for $5. In fact I have not watched it yet (I have had it close to a year). I am waiting to get my new surround sound system. I refuse to watch a war movie for the first time unless everything is perfect... Pretty wierd, huh? stimpy
  3. I have had this happen where a Jumbo came rolling up the center of the map on a road, while the infantry were coming up the right side of the map. There was a MG bunker that the Jumbo had a clear shot on. So he filled it full of smoke. I hate it when they put a Greenpeace volunteer as the loader... Guess after each time the gunner fired the loader would yell up, "My bad, I think this is an HE round. There... try that..." stimpy

  5. I have sent engineers on top of minefields before without demo charges (I think they didn't have any) and they have cleared them after 2-5 turns. I didn't think they needed them. stimpy
  6. This would be a great idea! So if the troops get wiped out, they just get replaced... unless a flamethrower makes BBQ out of it. I have big issues the current way bunkers become useless to quickly. It would also be nice to have the ability to pre-dig trenches or have them already modeled in the map. Don't forget also the Russians taking T-34 turrets for quick fix anti-tank emplacements. stimpy
  7. I wondered for a while why a nice new roll of Mylar would be doing in a car trunk, why propellers would be strewn about, etc. just on the right episodes. But you think about it, the show is not so much finding stuff around a junkyard, but building something with what you find. It would be impossible to actually find all the stuff they need in a gigantic junkyard. I figure, to spice it up, they find out the general plans of each team and then grab actual junk from real junk yards or supplies and dump them through out the yard. The show is fantastic to say the least. My favorite so far were the drag racing, cannons and flying machines. stimpy
  8. Religous watcher of both Junkyard Wars and Battlebots (and RobotWars on PBS). First off, I must agree when the US grabbed the show, they butchered it, though I still love to watch it. The new host sucks. I tried to get a team on it As for BattleBots and RobotWars, I prefer BattleBots much more. RobotWars seems that the robots are too weak. They just lullygag around gently smacking into each other. My bet is the lightweight Zippo. He tears the crap out of everything. Head to the Comedy Central website to get more info on the bots before they fight! stimpy
  9. I think the signs give away too much in the game. The anti-personnel ones should read "Step Here For a Generous Foot Massage!" And for anti-tank "Treads rotated and balanced if you park here!" My people just avoid them now... stimpy
  10. I am actually in the closed beta for WW2OL. It is very nice... very nice I tell you indeed. It will be geared to keep the spoilers out. Warbirds kept them out from the skill side alone. Ultra reastic sims don't appeal to kids that want to screw things up. It takes time to learn them. These kids are usually too stupid or lazy to take on the challenge. stimpy
  11. That fixed it! DOH! Just grabbed an explosion mod pack off TGN CMHQ and now all fixed! Thanks all! stimpy ps Now I just have to get rid of stupid white flashing graphics...
  12. I am using the latest Detonator Ref Drivers for win2k from the nVidia site (v6.31). I have DX8 installed. It gave me the same error in the base install of Win2k (DX7). No mods are installed... yet stimpy
  13. After clicking on a game to load and getting the "loading 3d graphics" screen, the error is: "ERROR: GGraphic.cpp line 711. Exiting program." Anyone else having this prob? System: win2k PII/450 Creative Annihilator Pro (GeForce DDR 32Meg) 256Meg SBLive etc. Thanks stimpy
  14. Hello all: My days of pilaging the battlefield have come to a halt. I had to upgrade (if you can call it that) to Win 2k from Win 98 due to the applications I use and the better use *cough* Win2k makes of memory. I have a Win98 partition, but I like to keep CMBO running while I work in my other apps that I switched to 2K for. I am having NO other problems with other games I am playing. I have patched Win2K with all the updates from the MS website. I have the latest sound (SBLive), video (Creative GeForce DDR), etc. drivers from the web. I have updated to DX8 with no helping the problems either. Anyway, I am having mucho problems with both versions. First, in v1.05, all white color is considered "transparent" or something like that. Everything that is white flashes or is a wierd color. In v1.1b22, I get the following error when I try to play the game. It comes after the "loading 3D graphics" screen. "ERROR: GGraphic.cpp line 711. Exiting program." Anybody else run into this? Thanks, stimpy
  15. Creative has created "unified" drivers for their GeForce cards which allow them to run Glide games. If it works at all for the game, they will only run as fast or slower than their D3D counterparts since the drivers translate Glide calls to D3D. stimpy
  16. deanco: I have the unit info screen in there too. It is just a little further behind with all the tiny cutouts that need thrown in there. I also have the VCR buttons done. It all sits as one multilayer file in Photoshop for the cuttin'. I'll post up some more screens of these later in the day once I make a few more tweaks on the text BMPs. I do agree it is pretty bright compared to the rest of the game, unless you play a snow board. But it was a first go. I have ideas for new ones after this. Thanks again, stimpy
  17. I'll make a dingy beat-up one after this. Thanks for the input so far! stimpy
  18. I have been pretty bored lately, so I started on making a new info bar mod. All suggestions welcome. As you can tell it is still a work-in-progress. Also, if anyone knows someone who wants to host this when I am done, it would be appreciated. stimpy
  19. I've noticed shells bursting in the trees above infantry. Pretty darn accurate if you ask me. The game always has something cool to watch just when you think you have seen it all.
  20. Rumor is $50 off shelf... $30 a month... but this is rumor... stimpy
  21. Sergei: AI my man, AI... AI will most likely man positions or vehicles that no one wants to. Albeit not as smart, but I have seen humans do dumber things. Mr. Clark: Yah, command structure breaks down usually. But every once in a while things work. Especially on the squad level. I know that my Warbirds squad used to kick some major butt because of our teamwork. The best was those nights that alot of squads had orginized meetings. There was some major coordination. As for the organized events (i.e. ww2 battle reenactments), there was major chain-of-command. Pilots were briefed weeks ahead of time and followed orders accordingly. It was something else to command a B-17 box formation with another following 10 miles behind while gaggles of 109s, 110s and 190s came swooping in as you passed their patrol points. The whole game is going to be a very interesting experience for all to behold. stimpy
  22. I treat any 20mm vehicle as a quick machine gun with wheels. I only use it in suppression of infantry and the occasional bashing of soft targets, including soft-skinned vehicles. As for the 37mm. I have true respect for it. I was playing the Allies once, when all the enemy had left was a single Tiger and miscellaneous infantry. I pulled four 37mm vehicles in behind the Tiger and actually got a kill with one. It hit a weak spot on the turret ring. Ever since then I cannot recreate the kill in the scenario builder... It must of been one of those one-in-a-million shots. stimpy
  23. First off I must say that the only thing comparable between the two games are the vehicles in them. Gameplay will be nothing like what the other has. As for the game, I am very close to many of the developers of it and I assure you realism was the first thing on their list. There are many things in it that I am under NDA not to say, but my gosh... you will be surprised at the level of detail and features of the sim... As for gameplay issues, these have been thought out over and over. Sometimes there may be a break down in the chain of command, etc. But overall the game will stick to what it was supposed to be. I never really cared about chain-of-command until the staged reenactment nights. This is where a ton of fun is. Everything is heavily organized. It is a blast to know you only have "one life" in the game. You take a little more time and listen to a few more commands. All in all, I can't wait. From what I have seen to what it is going to be, I don't believe anything out there is going to touch it. stimpy
  24. I don't know how many times this was hashed over so far since I just started reading this board, but here are some commands I would like to see added to the game for units: Formation Move - This simply says the group you have selected will all move as fast as the slowest unit in the group. I hate when a flamethrower is left behind, and/or tanks go flying up ahead of everyone. Force Load - This will force vehicle units to preload a certain type of ammo. If a tank just engaged infantry and has HE loaded, but you know their is a Tiger over the hill, you can force load a tungsten round or something. Abandon Position - Many times I have an M1919 crew or similar in a situation where they are immobile and my empathy comes upon them. I would rather them just abandon the gun to keep from getting captured. Or if the team is out of ammo and I just want them to lose the gun so they can retreat faster... Waypoints for Group Moves - Just as it says... Move em all at once and plan their routes all at once. Fire X Number of Rounds - Tells mortars, arty, etc. to fire only this many rounds at a certain target. I have alot of units wasting ammo on areas that only needed one or two rounds. Salvage Ammo - Sends unit to a dead unit's location to pick up ammo off them. It's all good... That is all I can think of right now. Thanks for your ears... stimpy
  25. I have a Sony F500R and I must say playing CM at 2048x1536 resolution is extremely nice... Who needs full screen anti-aliasing at that res? I started in 1993 with a 15", moved to a 17" in 1995 and finally a 21" in 1997. Since then there is no going back. I just wish they made them bigger... stimpy
