1.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: Correct. But what I am suggesting here is that CM's casualty rates are more realistic than you think they are. Also keep in mind that roughly 3-4 men were wounded for every man killed, and roughly 2-3 of them survived their wounds. Most were able to go back to duty. Meaning that if your Platoon loses 20 men, roughly 15 are wounded or otherwise ineffective, and roughly 5 of those would return to duty within a couple of days (if not hours). 2.
quote:
Originally posted by Maj. Bosco: Gronk, Super Pershings are eminently capabable of putting an ordinary AP shell through a JT. The front superstructure is the only place they have trouble with. The tungsten tweak is great. I was sick of my hellcats firing off their HE before their T rounds. Great job BTS.

I respectfully dissagree. I think you are forgetting to take into account the armor slope of the JT. By my calculations the Super Pershing can penetrate only 110mm at a 50 degree angle (the slope of the JT hull armor) at 100m. That would only penetrate the lower hull. The upper hull armor is 150mm at 50 degrees. Plus the high angle also makes the risk of ricochet higher. At a little over 500m even lower hull penetrations would become unlikely. And one must also consider that the JT gun can penetrate the SP anywhere and from any range. So put yourself in the SP TC's shoes for a second. You are staring at a tank that can kill you with one shot. So you can choose to (A) use a tungsten round and probably get a kill, or ( use a AP round and hope to get real lucky. Now remember, your life hangs in the balance. Lets say you decide (. Your shot bounces off the front hull of the JT. The JT just barely misses you. Now you have a second chance. Do you choose ( again? How many times do you let the JT shoot at you before you decide to use a tungsten. Remember that any hit from the JT can kill you. Only one tank is going to leave the field today. Will it be you or him? If you get knocked out you lose ALL your tungsten rounds. Not to mention your tank. 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: Glad tungsten is making Allied players happy (and German ones sad ), but to be clear we have not made any changes to targeting code. That Super Pershing with the bunch of AP misses must have kept thinking "I can get it!!" otherwise it would have switched to tungsten. So my guess is that the chance of a successfull AP round penetration was right on the edge of going towards tungsten. Either the bunch of misses or a facing change by the enemy, which increased the chance of a bounce, made it finally decide it was time to give up on AP. Steve

I would think that after 1 or 2 ricochets the TC would switch to tungsten. And considering that the JagdTiger is the largest tank in the game, one would think that tungsten would be the first choice in ammo. What is the TC saving it for, a battleship? If you havent tweeked the tungsten choice, would you consider it? Please, please, please!
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by aka_tom_w: "It should BLOW up and go BOOOM damn it!" Oh well it was fun anyway -tom w

CM isn't supposed to be fun... It's supposed to be realistic... Fun is just the most common side effect. And of course, lack of sleep.
 5. Every stroke of bad luck is good luck for someone else. Well, at least in tank battles. Case in point... Just for kicks I decided to see if I could take out 8 King Tigers with 2 Jumbo 76s in a close quarters town battle. (Against the computer.) Well, by circling around and sniping from behind I was able to take out 4 KTs and lost one of my Jumbos. But now I was trapped behind a building... 2 KTs around the corner of the building on the left and one KT on the right. I rotate to face the 2 on the left. But of course they just sit there and the one on the right comes around the corner. I figure I'm dead for sure. But he rolls right past me. (I was snug up against the wall.) He stops 5 meters in front of me. Sweet hunk of good luck for me. Bad for him. Any way, I eventually die but I did manage to kill 6 KTs with 2 Jumbo's. I considered it a good day. I would like to hear your favorite good luck story.
 6. Very first thing turn 1... Smoke, Smoke and more Smoke.... While he is trying to figure out where you went, send a Hellcat right past him and shoot him in the butt.
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by aka_tom_w: Even if the Allied TD's come with only one or two Tungsten Rounds They will fire them off and it does MAKE huge difference because if they get a hit they DO penetrate much better than the reg AP for sure. -tom w

It still isn't guarneteed that they will use the tungsten... I just had a Pershing bounce 5 AP rounds off the front of a JagTiger before he decided it might be a good idea to load one of his 7!!! tungsten rounds. Duh!!! Some TCs are smart. Some are lucky... Mine was lucky...
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by :USERNAME:: Did you have an ambush out?

Nope... But I doubt it would have helped... You have to see someone to ambush them... unless ambush increases the chance to spot... hmmm Madmatt, does ambush increase the chance to spot enemy tanks at the ambush marker?
 9. My wife said if I don't stop playing this game so much that she is going to leave me. Man, I sure am going to miss her.
 10. Words cannot describe how much better any game looks with FSAA. Don't write-off the Voodoo 5 before you have had a chance to play CM on one first. Once you have experienced 3D without Jaggies you can never go back. I would much rather have FSAA at 50 FPS than no FSAA at 75 FPS.
 11. How long does it take to notice a 77 ton monster 15 meters in front of you? Answer... "It varies." Here's what happened... I'm in this little French town in my Jumbo 76, minding my own business. When along comes this King Tiger and greases all my buddies. So I check the town map and I notice this nice little cul-de-sac. So I back my Jumbo in nice and snug. I figure when the KT comes rolling by I'll just pop a AP right into his side. No Prob. So I'm sitting there waiting. I can't see him. But I can hear him. I hear him rolling along. Then I hear him stop. Now, I hear him turning his turret. In fact, somehow, just by listening I can tell he is turning his turret in my direction. Go figure. Well you might know that the turret on the KT is kinda slow. It takes a good 10 seconds or more just to turn that thing 90 degrees. Then the turret stops. And then, to my wild surprise, there it is. Right in front of me... 15 meters. Sitting there in the middle of the intersection. 77 tons of "uber" about to kick my butt. And before I can yell "FIRE", Pow! My Jumbo has a new hole and me and the boys are running for cover. The thing I can't figure is why did it take me so long to notice that thing 15 meters in front of me. I was staring right at it. I wasn't buttoned up or anything. Sure I could understand if it took me 10 seconds to notice a KT rumbling through the trees at 500 meters in the fog. But this was right in the middle of the day, no smoke, no enemy fire, nothing. Just 15 meters of clean flat pavement. It just ain't right. The only thing I can figure is the gods must be crazy. 12. I would definitely recommend a Voodoo 5. CM looks 10 times better with full screen AA. (Anti-aliasing... not Anti-aircraft) Voodoo 5 has the best AA on the market. You can actually see details at 1500 meters. No Jaggies at all. (Screen Jaggies that is... Not JagPanthers.)
 13. All very good reasons... I bow before your great knowledge. Is there a formula for deciding unit cost or is it a Steve/Charles judgement call? [This message has been edited by Gronk (edited 12-06-2000).]
 14. Why is the Super Pershing cheaper than the Pershing? The super has more armor and a better gun.
 15. Well, I have never driven a tank, but I used to work for a logging operation in Washington State. I have had a bit of experience operating a medium sized "Cat" (bulldozer) in very muddy conditions. And I can state from experience that it is indeed less likely to get bogged in "scattered trees" than in the "open". This is mainly due to the root structure of the trees. The roots provide both support and grip for the tracks. Also it is much easier to get unbogged when there is a tree nearby. The standard way of getting unbogged is to attach the winch line to a tree and pull your self out. This is of course impossible if there is no tree around. I can’t comment on speed vs. chance of betting bogged, as the Cat that I drove had only two speeds (slow and slower). I can say that rotating in muddy conditions is a bad thing to do as it tends to dig you into a hole.
