  1. The same things that were modable in CM:BO will be modable in CM:BB. You won't be able to change unit data or create your own units, etc, as that stuff is still locked in the EXE (for good reason).

The trees blowing probably is eye candy. I think it's effective eye candy in that it helps (along with the terrain doodads) to add immersion. It's also there because wind is now modeled which will effect smoke drift.

  2. You need to use some kind of sound file converter to change the format of the CMBO WAV files to 16-bit Stereo, 22050kHz before using them in CM:BB. I don't think it will crash the demo but the sounds will be odd to say the least (play twice as slow as they should). I would recommend dBPowerAmp. It's freeware and you can convert a whole directory of sound files through Windows Explorer. Pretty slick and I've never had trouble with it. You can get it here.

As far as the ATI card, what makes you think it's defective? ATI cards do not support fog but there is none of that in the demo scenarios. Anyway, if you're going to get a different card, probably go with an Nvidia Geforce4 (stay away from the MX line). I know ATI just came out with a new "killer" card that outperforms all Nvidia's but they still don't support fog tables (needed by CM to display fog).

Glad to here you got it working and that you are enjoying the demo so far.

And then there are the people who complain about the people who complain about the people who are complaining...

Sounds like the opening credits to "Holy Grail" of somefink.

Everyone who is getting a little too caught up in this needs to back away from the computer and repeat to themselves "It's only a game, It's only a game".

Granted, a damn good one, but still just a game.

  4. I'm pretty sure pre-orders are only available with a credit/debit card.

Check/money will be available for regular orders once the game comes out.

Do you know anyone with a credit card that could place the order for you and you pay them cash? A good friend that you really trust or a relative?

Just a couple of suggestions. Otherwise it will probably be another week or so once the game is released (maybe longer as I think check/money order takes longer to process).

  5. Get Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" here.

    It's an MP3, a little over 4MB.

Once downloaded, unzip it, then convert it to a WAV (16-bit Stereo, 22050kHz) and place it in the CMBB Demo\Demo Data\Wav directory.

This is a temp solution. I see if someone will host this permanently (CMHQ, TCMHQ and the other usual suspects). I'll supply a 44000kHz version once the full game is released.

    Enjoy!

  6. I've got one too for those interested. "Ride of the Valkyries". Works well if you're going to be playing a scenario from the German side. Only problem is the file is like 25MB as a down-sampled WAV for the demo (about twice that for the full release). I could convert it to an MP3. Anybody wants it, let me know and I'll try to find a place to post it.

I guess Philippe needs to start a "Sound of Music" mod for CM:BB. smile.gif

  7. Pud,

    Then don't do that. ;)

Seriously, I just tried doing an Alt+F4 from the CM:BB start screen. Takes the window down but when I did CTRL+ALT+DEL to view the Task List, "Barbarrossa to Berlin demo" is still listed as running.

This is on Windows ME. I didn't try to start another instance without first killing the stilling running process as I really don't want to take my system down that way. smile.gif

BTS PLEASE FIX OR DO SOMEFINK!

EDIT: I tried starting another instance of CM:BB with the still running process and it opened without crashing my machine. However, when I exit the new copy, the first one is still listed as an active process.

BTW, I glad someone else still uses Alt+F4 to shutdown Windows apps. I use it at work all the time and people are always wondering what it is I'm doing to close things down.

  8. It's like all software, very hard to predict the future, especially if you don't know if you are going to have a future, as was the case with BTS. They didn't even know if CM:BO was going to the major success that is was.

Personally, I'm glad BTS didn't go the "expansion pack" route. If done right I agree it would be very cool, kinda like ASL modules (but even those had extra rules and so on), and might make additional theathers and features come about quicker.

As it is, I'm just as happy they took the time to redo some of the things that were lacking in CM:BO (machine guns, tanks loosing track of targets, I think everyone knows the list).

Now I'm just looking for that damn pre-order announcement. :D

    Thanks,

    S.h.r.i.k.e

Like CM:BO, CM:BB will only use max size based on your Windows desktop resolution. If your desktop is set to 800x600, then CM will only run in 800x600 max but you will have the option to use a lower res if you wish.

So try bumping up your desktop res to 1024x768 or whatever and then using that for your CM res. You will need to delete the "Combat Mission BB Demo Prefs" file in the "CMBB Demo" directory to reset your resolution.

    Hope this helps.

No. It's a feature where a tank or gun will keep shooting at a knocked out vehicle until they see confirmation that it is destroyed (on fire, crew bails out, etc.).

I've seen it once in the tutorial and it is a very nice feature that adds some more realism. My T-34 got KO'ed by that "pea-shooter" 37mm AT gun. That thing shoots fast and hit my T-34 at least twice more while the crew was bailing out. Once the crew bailed, they proceeded to target and destroy the other T-34 rather quickly.
