That's pretty much the opposite of what I've seen here over the years. BFC IMO have made it pretty clear that we'll never again see a (eastern front) game of the scope that CMBB provided. A "Battle for Kharkov" or "Bagration" modules for a WW2-game are IMO far more likely.
  2. Why does this sort of newspeak always remind me of Black Adder?

" Darling: So you see Blackadder, Field Marshall Haig is most anxious to eliminate all these German spies.

Melchett: Filthy hun weasels, fighting their dirty underhand war!

Darling: And fortunately, one of our spies...

Melchett: Splendid fellows, brave heroes risking life and limb for blighty!"

    :D

  3. I guess there will be different patches for the BFC and Paradox versions.

    Quote from Martin:

As for patches - Battlefront will always be the first to release patches for practical reasons already. Other files need to be localized/protected etc. so usually there is always some delay.
The main differences will be the manual (BFC version: 200 pages, Paradox version: 80 pages) and (probably) the copy protection.
  4. I can't see how the personel of Blackwater and other firms can be called anything else than "mercenaries". Their motivation to take part in an armed conflict is clearly governed by the desire for private fincancial gain. The distinction between offensive and defensive actions in that matter is totally irrelevant.

  5. Gamestar.de, the website of Germany's biggest computer gaming magazine, has provided a mini preview of CM:SF, a full review will be available in its september issue (available in early august). It is quite unusual for Gamestar to do this for such a niche game, usually only mainstream blockbusters or "big names" recieve such attention. The preview doesn't go into details about the game, but the overall tone is IMO quite positive, accentuating the realism and the challenge of commanding the forces.

I think it's a very good sign when mainstream mags like Gamestar provide information about CM:SF.

    Lots of screenshots, too.

    Der Link.

Do the US still field M1s with 105mm guns? I thought the Rheinmetall 120mm gun had been standard for many years by now.

That was exactly what I thought when I saw the first screen of the new, detailed environments. CM:SF will be a map maker's dream. I'm sure we will see lots of high-quality maps in no time.

And as nice as the idea of CMx1's random map was, once I got used to play on detailed hand-crafted maps I rarely played on computer generated maps anymore.

  8. It sure does suck that CMX2 will be based around a modern scenario, rather than WW2.

But not in a "OhMyGawd!!! I'll never play this game!!!11"-sort of suckage but rather in terms of "So, Salmy Hayek AND Keira Knightley BOTH want to make HOT love with me? Fine...but, what do you mean, they forgot to order anchovy for my Pizza?!"-kind of suckage factor.
