1. Ambrose wrote the book, Band Of Brothers. I just started it … and it seems good, along the lines his Pegasus Bridge. I'm sure there are more historical inaccuracies, but on the whole, it is another good read.
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by Chad Harrison: does anyone know if the mini series is going to be avaliable to buy? i dont have HBO!?!!

Find a friend to tape it. That's what I'm doing.
 3. Got me. I've never tried it, because I'm always playing a real game vs someone. I suggest that you run an experiment playing both sides at the same time, and let us know. It sounds worthwhile and you'd help me, that's for sure.
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Viceroy: Dr Brian, you should check out The Scenario Depot at http://www.dragonlair.net/combatmission/ has ratings for play balance, though not all scenarios have been reviewed yet.

Viceroy, Thanks for the link (and it's a great one too!). Although it wasn't exactly what I had in mind, it is definitely going to help me find balanced scenarios. It appears that this site only "rates" the game on excitement level (ratings of 1-10). I was looking more for something along the lines of a scenario being rated by side. For example, is "All Or Nothing" 50-50, or is it 80% pro-Allied. I was hoping that a R.O.A.R. type system has been developed for CM as it has in ASL. For those not familiar, R.O.A.R. is an automated record, where players report the results of the games they have played, thereby building a database. The win-loss is continuously complied based on the reports. It's a wonderful system. I assume CMBO has matured to that sophisticated level by it's fan base yet. Oh well.
 5. Is there any scenario play balance ratings available? I'm curious to see which scenarios are the best balanced. Seems like some of them heavily favor one side or the other. Thanks in advance!
 6. Killmore, I was there last summer. I took pictures of many of the AFVs and Guns, but I also took the associated picture of the placard description. I should be able to help you out tremendously. Poland is awesome!
 7. Thanks for the help. It is very much appreciated. At times like this, I wish the Game Manual included this stuff, sort of like the ASLRB!
 8. With all things being equal, except the troop quality of the unit, does rally take longer for Green/Conscripts than for Veteran/Regulars? Thanks in advance!
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by lcm1947: In my experience I would say just - kill em! But that's just my opinion and feelings.

 10. I'm not concerned about modeling medical units. I'm just concerned what will happen (even if I can) move the captured enema unit off map … and if it will hurt me if the map edge is an area that the enema unit must exit to. Will I get victory points for moving the prisoner off map?????
 11. In a PBEM game where my opponent must exit for VP, I have a captured enema unit, and I have one of my "crews" guarding them. If I exit the captured unit off the map, do I still get credit for capturing them? Does it matter if I exit them in their "must exit" for VP area, or am I gonna get screwed? If I don't exit them, my guards will most likely be overrun, as I'm on the defense, and losing units fast. Thanks in advance!
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by Mattias: As long as the distinction between “preparatory” and “on call” artillery is kept clear it should not be a problem. The former they had, the latter they did not have to the same extent.

I don't know gang. All the readings I've seen indicate the opposite, especially during the latter part of the war, which is late 1942 on. They had plenty of arty, and on call too. For example, if one researches accounts at Stalingrad in November 1942 to January 1943, they had a lot. As the war progressed, it was pretty darn good. I suggest further reading on this material, but open it up to Red Army/Soviet accounts, not those written by western or german observers, especially accounts before 1980 which are heavily german biased. Great topic for discussion.
 13. I've seen these. A guy I use to work with was part of a club, and he even been asked to "join" as a member about 12 years ago. But I started to think about it, and I realized that the guy that was asking me didn't look like he had a full 52 cards in his deck. I'm just waiting for someone to go overboard and use real bullets. In fact, I recall that this already happened a few years ago in a Civil War re-enactment. Made me realize I made the right decision. It is very frightening.
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by massimorocca: The 100 meters minimum range affected also the "foot" mortars and prevent use in the foggy sceanrios. I'm testing a new one of Wild Bill and it's impossible to target anything because the LOS is only of 40 meters and no Hq could be connected with mortars at 65 meters of distance. It's a pity Massimo Rocca

Yes, but in this instance, you can at least use a HQ to spot, and with the mortar further back (say 50m), can make the 100m minimum distance. The problem is with the halftrack mortar, which one can not use an HQ to spot, hence it is much more of a waste. That's why I'm wondering about the scenario design. SPOILER…. It's ASL Scenario - Chenuex.
 15. I feel your pain brother. Ambushes never work like one would want them too. It seems simple, but the coding of it is another thing. I don't think BTS can afford to dedicate resources to this.
 16. Thanks for the prompt reply gang. As I mentioned, it is an ASL converted scenario (not a QB), and this is what they gave me! With a minimum range of 100m and the fog limiting it to 80m, it does look like I am indeed screwed. "Nuts!"
 17. I know I'm coming into this topic late, and forgive me if this has already been said, but I just can't go through all 241 messages. Anyway, Gyrene's propsal is not always desirable. Why on EARTH would I want to have short ranged SMGs taken from my longer ranged M1s????? The scenario may be open, and require greater long range FP. Just my 0.02 zlotey.
 18. I'm playing an ASL converted scenrario, and there is fog which limits the LOS to approximately 80m. Now the problem is that I have some mortar carrying halftracks, with a minimum range of 100m. So, you see the problem. They can't fire direct, and they can't use spotted fire with an HQ. Anyone hyave suggestions how to get them to fire at something and be useful???? Thanks in advance!
 19.
quote:
Originally posted by Michael Dorosh: The French and Polish troops were outfitted and organized by the British - but rewatching The Eagle Has Landed reminds me that they did keep their own insignia and rank titles. You may have a point - but rank insignia icons (ala Close Combat) may have been even more confusing.

I would not mind the native language, especially the Polish, French, and soon Red Army. I just think that they should do it for all, not just the Germans. Kind of slanted.
 20. I think it would give the game an "international" flavor if they did. Maybe it's just tough to get a decent translation for the Red Army stuff. Thanks for the screen shot links!
 21. I've noticed that in CM:BO, German units use German abbreviations (e.g., Unt) for rank, which is obviously a German abbreviation. However, I noticed that there is in oversight when the allies are used. For example, Polish and French units use the English translation as opposed to their native languages, like the Germans. I assume there is no way to change this, so I'm stuck with the German abbreviations instead of English. I've never cared for the German usage, and prefer the translation, as it is less confusing for non-German linguists. However, if this same format is used in CM:BB, will the Red Army be in English too, while the German Army is still using German abbreviations? Perhaps BTS can be consistent in national portrayal. Although I would not expect Cyrillic letters to represent a Red Army Sergeant, I'd expect that some translation could be done. Thinking about it, Cyrillic letters would be cool.
 22. Sheesh … what the problem if he stop's playing? If you're pummeling the guy and he is losing, why should he keep playing? So you can humiliate him more, and where he doesn't enjoy playing? I've stopped many times in the middle of a game, because it was pointless to continue. It wasn't fun as I had zero chance to win. However, I notified my opponent the match is his, and I would quickly start (or offer to) another game. Maybe that is your contention? That they don't want to play you b/c you are whipping them? Still if you are over matching your opponent, maybe they are looking for someone with equal skills so they can enjoy playing the game, not get beat up. Whoever said "black list" them! SHAME ON YOU!
 23. Wow… that is impressive! I noted that you said there are other sky mods out there, for example, for night. I haven't seen them, so I'm sure I'm on the wrong page. Could you help by directing me to them (and other sky mods)? Thanks in advance!
 24. It works ... sort of ... But it doesn't work well ... meaning it's like the search engines on the Internet. You type in a keyword, and get 10,000,000 hits that aren't even related. Then, spend time searching each post. It's easier to ask the baord, and the cool people will be kind enough to help.
