  1. Sorry, Tiger. I guess I mean the US star when I said insignia. There are no markings on the Jumbo and I was wondering if I had made a mistake when I re-archived the zip file. Thanks. GP
  2. lcm, My advice is to download the mod manager and get the bmp list so you know which files are which. I gave an example of how I renamed and re-archived all the Marco Bergman Stuart mods in this thread: http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/015440.html This example is for a complicated mod. If you have a mod which is just 9 bmps for one tank with no options, though, its really easy. Good luck.
  3. Question for Tiger or anyone else who can help. In the weatheredshermans21 mod, the Jumbo has no insignia and I can't seem to find a .bmp that does. Am I missing something obvious? Thanks.
  4. I got sucked in by the box art of Avalon Hill's 'Luftwaffe'. It was a bit too tough at age 11, but it introduced me to AH. I own probably 3 dozen AH titles, including Tactics 2 and all the Panzerblitz family. Spent the most time playing 'War at Sea' and 'Wooden Ships & Iron Men'.
  5. Computer Games Online did a nice piece on the mods available for our favorite game: http://www.cdmag.com/articles/031/139/010131-01.html Good PR
  6. Dmart: This group is one of the best on any message board out there and I was curious how many were interested in AOS2 since it also deals with historical combat. When you see the "OT:" it means off topic. Don't read them if its going to get your panties in a bunch. Hope the above was not hard for you to understand. GP
  7. I didn't know there was any view when you had your head.... Nah, that would be juvenile.
  8. 3310-3319, but I can't remember where I got my list from.
  9. Major WS&IM player here. I still have it, though it was last used in 1985 or so. Computer WS&IM was an adaptation of the baord game, so it was not real time. AOS-I was entertaining, but it got a little repetative and was missing a couple of little details that could have made it great. Here's to hoping this new engine can deliver.
  10. Okay, I've got 2 core file mods, 1 for copying from the CD, the other from the zip file. I did not follow the instructions, and installed the manager in its own folder, so my mods all go in E:\CMMM\mods. This is where my core files mega-archive is located. GP
  11. 'Victory at Sea' by 360-pacific. Essentially harpoon for WW2 that just plain didn't work. Unplayable.
  12. Yes, Akella is Russian, and the game is a clean sheet of paper. If I wasn't so battle-hardened by false promises and flowery interviews/previews, I'd probably buy it as soon as it hit the shelves. No demo and no real communication from the developers makes me pessimitic. I hope I'm wrong.
  13. Any of you folks planning to purchase this? It's gone Gold.
  14. Pretty amusing 10 or so seconds last night against the AI. I set up a 1,250 point QB to test some of the artwork and the mod manager. I had tanks fanned out from one side of the map to the other. Stuart1 on the far left flank was scooting fast towards cover. Withing less than 10 seconds: Stuart1 taken out by Panther, Panther taken out by Stuart2, Stuart2 taken out by Stug, Stug taken out by M4A3 (second hit, rear shot) Position of each Shooter was a zigzag right across the map. Probably not uncommon, but it sure made me laugh.
  15. I'm not sure that I copied the files from the CD, because I uninstalled and re-installed the manager & probably forgot. Stupid question - I guess the core files option is for when you want to "bail out" and start from scratch. For the number of times you'd have to do that, why not drag the bmps and wav folder from the cd? Anyway, when I get home 2nite I'll try to get the manager to reinstall the core files from the hard disk. Whatever directory works for the 234mb zip file, I'll let you know. Last night I set up a QB armor battle with low vis US Stuarts and modded M4A3 Shermans, then later set up a similar battle with camo Stuart Vs, Fireflies, Sherman IIs and bicolor Churchills. Changed Panther schemes, too. Took all of a minute to switch the artwork with the manager. The camo Brits are really cool looking. 16. A couple of tips from my experience: Each time you create a mod, go out to the mod list, and allow the program to re-sort. You can see the screen flicker as the order is shuffled. I got the page error when I created too many mods at one time. Forget batch files. I delete the icons and the batch files. Then I unzip all the files to a directory named for the mod (\Stuart_MB for example). Then, I create subfolders in this folder for each option and extra and move the files to the folder that describes them. Some examples from memory: Options: Stuart_MB\US Stuart_MB\UK Stuart_MB\Canada Stuart_MB\Free French Extras: Stuart_MB\US_bloc Stuart_MB\UK_bloc Stuart_MB\UKCamo Stuart_MB\USCav Stuart_MB\USlowvis Remember that some files are common and sit in the main folder (\Stuart_MB in this case). Also, the manager program does not seem to look more than one folder "down" in the hierarchy when you add options and extras, so don't put the US bloc extra in the US folder (Stuart_MB\US\US_bloc\) I then zip the main folder into one archive, recursing folders. When I "Load Mod " in CMMM, it unzips the entire archive into a CMMM\mods\tmp folder. Then its a matter of correctly assigning each folder to the Options section or the Extras setting. Don't forget to add a preview (I can't keep track of all these panthers and tigers! ) Don't forget to strip the descriptive text off of the .bmp files. 3360_US.bmp has to be 3360.bmp. I know, this seems like a lot of work, but when you're done, its truly slick. Regards, GP p.s. I'm sure if I've misstated anything someone will chime in, but the above is working. 17. CM2: Barbarossa This way, BTS gets some additional sales from people who think it's combat with Jayne Fonda.
  18. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Michael emrys: First Mac game: "Victory at Sea" by 360 Pacific. 1994.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Michael, Was this perhaps the worst software product you ever purchased? Remember the cat-fights between Dunnigan and the developers?

  20. I owned 'Luftwaffe' first, but only played it once. So, AH 'War at Sea' was my first frequently-played tabletop wargame. 'Patton vs. Rommel' was the first computer game. How far we've come..... ------------------ "Enough, Sir, no more of that, the die is cast and if there are fifty sail I will go through them" Adm. Sir John Jervis 14-Feb, 1797
  21. I'm probably in the minority, but I use the topographical gridded grass set (topogrid.zip). The grid lines get lighter for higher terrain. The grass color stays the same. I'm at a 2nd grade reading level in terms of reading terrain - I need all the help I can get
  22. It wasn't a tank, but I had a halftrack knocked out becuase it was next to a building that exploded. The shell hit on the opposite side.

  24. Always bummed me out that one of my favorite historical personalities died on my B-day. Anyone who hasn't read "War As I Knew It" should give it a look. ------------------ "Enough, Sir, no more of that, the die is cast and if there are fifty sail I will go through them" Adm. 25. I'd like to be able to place a marker on the ground like an ambush marker, then tell my tank to move in the direction I specify until it achieves a hull down position relative to that spot. How about giving US Infantry squads a random, limited-ammo bazooka that they would use independantly at ranges under 75m. Rationale (based only on what I've read) being that most units scrounged bazookas and used them in close quarters as the first option before close assault. Allow spotters, mortars and fixed guns to dig in for all types of scenarios.
