  1. Ok, sorry to sound like a FNG, but I just now realized the true potential of on-board mortars.

I was on defense, German, facing a British charge right up the middle through some trees. My position was about to be overrun, due to my poor positioning of my troops, and the demise of my supporting tank. Previously, I mistakenly had thought that my mortar could fire from anywhere on the map, using any commander's LOS, so imagine my surprise when it failed to happen, and the opportunities I had missed.

However, I hustled my mortar up right adjacent to the house the commander was spotting from, let loose some shells, and completely crushed the offensive right at the crucial moment. After destroying 6-7 squads, I shifted fire to the next concentration, and wreaked more havoc. This one even was pivotal in me winning the battle (just a Quick Battle) with a score of 82, as well as completely demoralizing the enemy troops.

  2. NOTE: (Please don't consider this a rant against the game -- I love it, it's probably the best game I have ever played. I'm just frustrated at the short life span of my armored vehicles)

I don't know what it is, but I always seem to get my butt kicked using tanks, except in the Pershing vs. Tiger mission, where I have persevered.

I always seem to lose tanks to the dumbest things, like badly timed charges against other tanks, infantry, or unknown assailants. If I have a tank in a mission, I can almost guarantee it will be gone by the end, even though I try to prevent flank shots, keep them under cover, ect. Does anyone else have this problem?

  3. I don't know if you all know this already, but the USMC has a nice selection of their combat/doctrine manuals online in PDF form free for the taking/reading at http://www.doctrine.quantico.usmc.mil/

Also, for Army Manuals, check out http://155.217.58.58/atdls.htm.

I thought this might be helpful to anyone like me who knows basic military tactics, but needs a lesson in proper utilization of MGs, combined arms, ect.

    Cya on the field!
