OK, your off the VET list then and onto the waiting list. No, I pretty much discovered BFC when CMSF came out. Its just that my post count since then implies that my wife is correct when she says I am obsessed. -
A bone? You can, with CMBN, use any grass mod.

Heh, soft they were. Poor marsh mellows. Ignorance for the Brit tankers were bliss, up to a point, yes?Well I have a soft spot for all british tanks from the Churchill through the Crusader to the Cromwell. -
Now that's a voice of reason and common sense, which isn't always as common as you would like to believe. Most of the time when I see someone get attacked for criticizing the game, it's because of *how* they communicate it - in short, they are usually being unpleasant butt-heads (to put it eloquently), obviously trolling.
For example, you've just criticized aspects of the game, and I predict you won't be attacked because you managed to do it while not intentionally trying to irritate everyone around you.
.......
1. Rude posters are not the same as critical posters. Each get a different reaction and I will not have it any other way here. Rude posters have NOTHING to offer us as a community, so the sooner they shape up or get lost the better.
2. Our customer base is allowing us to make the best wargames out there, bar none. Having more customers would be nice, and we aren't opposed to it, but we're not going to chase after customers that don't exist.
3. There are rough edges in CM:BN still. But from experience we've found people who are interested in the game will tough through it and eventually figure out a comfortable way to play (as they did for CMx1). Those that don't have the patience to get through the UI probably don't have the patience for the game itself. So the primary goal of improving the UI is to give our actual customers a better experience rather than changing things for a customer that doesn't exist.
As I said, we're quite happy with where we are. Are things perfect? Nope, and they never will be. Fortunately, they don't need to be in order to be happy. Good life lesson there that goes beyond wargame development.

Dan,
I have you marked as a RoW Vet. No so?

This refers to the Peng thread. You can only be daft inside an asylum. We try, very hard, to allow the widest possible array of opinions and forms of expression on this Forum.Steve

boresite/~Viajero,
So noted your desire. You will go on the Official "waiting" list. The signup for the tournament (usually) works as follows:
--> Vets of RoW (i.e. those in good standing) will get first option to participate and/or reply to send-out invites. There is usually a 10-14 day "Grace Period" for RoW Vets to signup.--> After the Grace Period the tourney will be opened up to those on the "Waiting List" and/or Newcomers, either via a formal email invite from me and/or a specific sign-up thread. Any ROW vets signing up on or after the initial grace period will not have priority over those on the "Waiting List" and newcomers.
--> Signup emails/posts will be processed in the order in which they are returned/received. As soon as we get 72 players, sign-ups are over. It is possible - though unlikely - that this could happen before the ROW veterans' sign-up period has expired.
--> Wait Listers/Newcomers are welcome to sign up before the 10-14 day Grace Period, but will not be assigned a player slot # until the Grace Period has expired, provided there are slots left.
--> Newcomers, that have never played in a Row tourney, probably will have to write a short letter why we should take them in for this tourney. Who knows, we might tarnish your 'good' name by publishing this letter when you go AWOL during the tourney for all to see on the Battlefront forum, when your seat gets filled by the next in-waiting player
The signup thread/post will be initiated by me, as usual with the immortal worlds of Wild Bill Wilder: "The guns are rumbling...the war is on" (Rumblings of War Tourney VI: SignUp)

I miss, like JonS, Dandelion.

Worthy of a sigline & a good riposte to some coming here being "not so clear in their thinking" ...
I'll toast that.Originally posted by Corvidae:I think [the original poster] reads better after a bottle or three of tequila; we got the victors history crowd, the hollywood as history crowd ... the dogmatic propaganda crowd, the "lets rehabilitate Hitler" crowd...and the honest historians who are trying to figure out the whole mess.
any guesses on who I'm sharing my tequila with???

Ola Bertram, welcome back to the pending RoW VI
-
It can be safely said you got a 'few' more players into the CM fold that were ... undecided.
-
Welcome to the forums Faelwolf.

Heh, I believe that some say Jesus will never come too. Alas, hope springs eternal. That will never happen. Dave O'Conner (programmer of BFTB) is just too busy with other projects and development of his own games.Bil
Would certainly want to be involved with your next meta campaign in the works Bil. Even as a lowly platoon commander.
-
Well, 50% of the matter is this: If, given current CMx2 data and they way the program relates to these unit data, and give Hunter's CMC approach NOW in creating an operational overly, would it NOW work, or is CMBN data sets STILL not capable of sharing it in any meaningful way with a 2nd program, even with a rewrite of same basic .exe program between the two, as was done between CMBB/CMC?
-
Man I just wish BF would make an add-on for CMBN like a CMC. There has to be demand for something like this?? I would take this before some or even any of the other add-on modules planned for CMBN. A basic operational system with an excellent tactical platform would indeed be revolutionar....
Well, if somebody can lobby the programmer(s?) at Panther/Matrix Games' Command Operations: Battles from the Bulge (CO:BFTB, rated as one of the best Operational wargames on the PC - see product page at http://www.matrixgames.com/products/377/details/Command.Ops:.Battles.from.the.Bulge. ) to try and approach Battlefront a-la-CMC style with a business plan... who knows.
Ahemmmmm.... Maybe Bil Hardenberger can broker such a deal/approach between BFC & Panther games to co-operate to make some very basic changes to both games so that CMBN can work (data wise) and they share in the profits of such an programming endavour?
Bil aready stated that to some degree CO:BFB & CMBN might be a very good marrying of concepts given their focus on Normandy/Bulge. The former comes with extensive scenario/mapmaker/unit builder abilities to cover to make operational maps. Leave it then to the community to build those operation/tactical maps with BFTB/CMBN respectively, as long as their unit data can be shared in some basic way. Having some API format that exchanges the data sets between programs might be looked at in the future? But there must be a meeting of minds first between the companies, otherwise it will stay a pipe dream for another decade+
If not, at least some 3rd party hacks can try their hand at marrying the 2 sets of data to some degree to give tactical orders to CMBN PBEM. I would certainly buy such a game/concept, even at $100+. Maybe we wishing for such an idea are completely in the minority and not even worth the financial trouble to make it work commercially?
Everything starts with a dream. Bringing 2 companies together and making a 3rd work it out, or themselves in a limited data capacity, knowing the pitfalls of CMC... who knows?

Welcome back Juha. As a multiple Vet of Rumblings of War, you will get invited to RoW VI for sure. Just make sure I can access your Battlefront.com forum email address to send invites out when the time draws near.
Regards.

Aye, confirmed. CMBN was rock solid many betas ago. The last dash to the line has started: It's an utter privilege to be part of such a dedicated and open-minded group of gentlemen. A phenomenal group of individuals and I'm honoured to be among those lucky few that Battlefront trusted to work with their flagship.A Beta Tester word about 'Final Candidate' stuff, if I may be allowed. Don't panic! This isn't CMBO or CMSF final candidate. The game's fully mature now and as stabile as a rock. I doubt we'd be able to break it even if we wanted to....I wish the greatest financial success to Battlefront.com. May you make such a success out of CMBN that it continues to be the vanguard of wargaming. We, the rearguard following, can only marvel at your passion, dedication and grit to our hobby. A luta continua: Let the wargaming ®evolution, started by BTS/BFC so many years ago, continue.
Respect.

Would be interested too in what Bil has up his sleeve for thisOriginally Posted by Bil HardenbergerThe latest game from Panther games, Battles from the Bulge will be a perfect match for any CMBN campaign.
-
Steve,Translating CM's tactical casualty results into a higher level game is going to take quite a bit of thinking to get it to feel "right". It's an entire game all on its own, which is why we're never going to add a "strategic" layer to CM. Too much! SteveDo you and Charles envision, in future, you might partner with a strategic layer company, whether IN the Battlefront.com fold or not, to try the "CMC route" again if such a company comes with an idea/programming resources that would seem workable, given CMC's pitfalls? Or is the data layer that CMx2 produce not at all easy adaptable to export it to a higher level strategic game, apart from other reconfiguring programming issues?

Good. Some to volunteer already their evil genius for specially created scenarios for ROW.

Completely.

where the **** have you studied history?
it´s really difficult to write more nonsenses in so few words as you did, dude
Gents, enough. Whether true or not, I'm not interested. This is not the correct forum to discuss Franco's policies, as misguided as they were.
"Shoot me, for they do not know what they have done." I started it, I'll take the rap Moon, despite the repeated words "Combat Mission" here to bring it either to conclusion, or different direction.
Can anyone wanting to discuss their version of history, real or imagined, please take this up in the General forum.
I should have known better even to refer to soccer in passing. Imagine underwater hockey!
-
There are those rules in specific forums. While I understand that for some soccer is religion/politics, I just tried to explain why my testing schedule for CMBN went haywire.Maybe they should add a new rule to the forums no politics and no soccer.
So, again, two words that impressed me today: Combat Mission (and the new Beta executable)
Any chance of getting an update on the update BFC?

Gents, the Demo will be released when Charles/Steve is 100% satisfied. At this moment, I think its safe to say that they are not, nor are some of our beta testers, as were testing the final candidate. Yes, we have moved from beta over to final candidate, but it could take 1 day, or many more for the candidate to be ... final.
Right now, if you gents want to have a demo now, we testers should not report any issues with the current version at all. Cause if the Demo = OK, the full release = OK'ed.
If we don't report ANY issues, you guys get the Demo for sure, but we testers will get that hollow, empty stomach feeling of not giving respect to Charles, Steve, Moon, Dan et al for all their years of sweat, toil and countless beers/coffee and hard work.
