1.
quote:
Originally posted by David Aitken: BTS have specifically chosen not to carry units through from battle to battle as per Close Combat, as this is unrealistic. David

Hmm, that’s to bad. As we all know no simulation is realistic. CM is an excellent product that functions very nicely in it’s role of providing a fun and entertaining experience. A carry over from battle to battle of even a HQ unit would add to my fun tremendously. After all that is why I play games, to have fun.
2. After performing a search and checking the manual...are vechile mounted smoke dischargers a function of the Tac AI only?
3. Yes, ordered on a Friday, recieved in 6 days.
4. Tables of organization are only part of the issue. Put yourself or any thinking man in the position of a platoon Anti-tank team. Would you only carry your AT weapon into battle? I certainly would not. As was said by one of the greatest soldiers who ever lived, Clint Eastwood Gene Hackman “You just shot an unarmed man!!!” Clint Eastwood “The boy should have armed himself” On the serious side as an example, my father fought in the New Guinea campaigns in the south Pacific. He was issued a Garand rifle. He said “I swapped my Garand for an M-1 carbine, used it for a few weeks and didn’t like it. Then I swapped the M-1 for a Thompson, it was just crap but sold well. Sold the SMG sent some money home and bought a bolt action 30-06 off an Aussie buddy. Used it for over a year. One of the best rifles I ever owned". Yes he was in a combat outfit. Many, many items are traded, swapped, stolen, loaned and bought amongst soldiers in the field. ToO&E’s be damned supply yourself with the items needed to survive with whatever means available. After all isn’t a soldier a terrible thing to waste? [This message has been edited by Abbott (edited 08-22-2000).]
5. Makes you dream of a linked campaign system. Does it not?
6. Very nice BTS! I have played several scenarios in the last few days. Listening to the clangs, bangs and whuumps of projectiles slamming, glancing and penetrating armor. Today an M-10 hit one of my Puma's when I happened to have the camera nearby. Wow what a deafening roar as the unlucky vehicle and crew went up in flames. Very well done!
7. Uh-oh! Was reading and speaking with my girlfriend at the same time (should never do that on this board) joke's on me
8. Mortars are not a close combat weapon. They are a ranged weapon. Lay back a few hundered meters and let them fire.
9. The boat suffered a catastrophic failure, all hands lost. The rescue effort mounted was based on hope, not probable survivors nothing could be done. God bless the families who lost loved ones to the sea.
10. I would be interested in playing a small scenario.
11. I also find my main interest in "The unkown war", (eastern front). I am using the western front as a training tool while waiting for CM2 and quite the enjoyable tool it is!
12. Approximately 40 scenarios are included in the game. With 2 or 3 times that many user made scenarios available at various sites for downloading. The battles are rated from ‘Tiny to Huge”. With re-enforced battalions seeing to be the largest forces available.
13. A box cover caught my eye once a long time ago while shopping for my children at a “Toy’s “R” Us” store in southern California. Avalon Hills ‘Squad Leader” From there I moved into GHQ, CinC and Ros heroics “Micro armor” 1/285th and 1/300th scale miniatures battling for many enjoyable years. Twilight 2000, Doom and X-Com started me into PC gaming 7 years ago with Steel Panthers coming along and stealing the show. I own 50 to 60 computer games, play the good ones a couple of months and the poor ones a few days or less. Steel Panthers always is the ‘Ole reliable that just keeps staying in the CD drive. Combat Mission will replace it now, after several years of great gaming. Now I own Combat Mission. What a marvelous design! The only MINOR flaw (it may be only in my opinion) is the interface makes it a bit difficult to control larger units. The pluses to this game so outweigh this minor inconvenience. There are so many items within this game that are nothing short of fabulous! I would buy it, play it and keep it for years if it had 10 major flaws, it is so well done. Overall (in my opinion) Combat Mission ranks with the classics of days past Doom, X-Com, Jagged Alliance and Steel Panthers. When I purchase a new game I always wonder while I am installing it “is it as good as one of these classics?” If it is, wonderful, I am going to have great fun! An incredibly well done game accompanied by an excellent manual. Well worth my $53.00. Well done and thank you Big Time Software. As an old veteran (Cross of Iron) of the eastern front, I will be in line waiting to buy the next one.
