  1. Ok, a bud and I need a third party to set up 2 double-blind tourney-save scens. Your mission (should you decide to accept it) would be to verify unit setup (not too hard, we're playing by full gamey rules) but with specific limits in certain zones. Then stick the units in the zones and send us the scens. If you're interested, mail me at kirkcm@telus.net. We have the map already. From my bud: "Capture the Flag" Context: The attacker (each of us, this is mirrored, eh?) has a crazy bastard as our commander. He really wants to retire a general so he figures that this one attack might make him notice to the powers that be. Map: Large deep map in which the defender (Axis) can try a 'defense in depth' to protect the flag. Attacker's objective: Capture the Flag. Duh. If the attacker captures the flag and holds it at the end of the game, or undisputed for 5 turns, he wins. Defender wins by preventing the Attacker from achieving his goal. Tie? On the event of a tie, whoever has the higher number as generated by the computer for the allied player wins. Special rules: Westergaardian Gamey rules apply. i.e. no force selection limitations in any manner except for the following. a) The defender can deploy only in the zones marked. Only certain types of units can be deployed in each and totalling only a certain amount. So from the region of the flag on the far right. Defender can place 2000 points of any type. Middle zone defender can place 600 points of Any type of infantry or support weapon (HMG, towed gun, mortar, etc.) and Mg bunkers. The front zone may contain only up to 400 points of units consisting of infantry, panzerschreck. The defender will additionally get 300 points of mines, wire, or TRP's to place anywhere from the first zone to the back of the map. Total points for defender 3000 in units, and 300 in fortifications (non bunker). The selections for the defender are pick in one big mess. We know the prices for all items, so we can be quite accurate. btw, once the game starts, all units can be moved around at will. The defender may not place any TRP's in the Attackers set-up zone. c) The defender may not fire any arty into the attacker's set-up zone for the first 15 turns of game play. d) The attacker will get 5000 points to be spent on any unit. e) No individual unit modifications allowed. i.e. you pick a company, you can't request our ref to modify the weapons/morale/etc. of any sub unit. i.e. what you buy is what you get.
  2. I'm in favour of the full random unbalanced scenerio concept. To get better, you must play againt better players. And I love the mystery of those unbalanced scenerios. Makes scouting so much more important. And I'd like to squeeze it in as cmbo before cmbb comes out. Fate
  3. Mission accepted. The post will self-destruct if I don't get chosen. Fate Nordic Championships fill-in
  4. This one is supposed to be pure gamey. The actual setup files he sent are called gamey and reverse-gamey.
  5. Oh yeah, everybody's green or conscript and let me tell you, they aren't too fond of arty. Even after instructing them on the tinfoil hat trick.
  6. My bud challenged me to a 3000 point, random weather, unlimited unit choice, gamey reverse meeting battle. I'm afraid I wasn't too up on gamey units but they're both turning out to be pretty cool fights. Lotsa arty (and rockets), he's got lots of TD's for his side on the allied. I went for a british/french mix on my allied side, churchills, lots of wasps, and achilles and ajax, with brit paratroopers, fair amount of heavy guns hindered by it turning out to be thick fog. Smattering of a lot of german stuff, geibsjurgers (sp?), smg squads, and jagdpanthers. So want would people consider are the most gamey units in the game?
  7. Anybody try these yet? I know the ATI guys were working close with the Warbirds guys on them, and framerates in WBIII went up about 30%! Mainly due to T&L stuff. Wondering if they break anything in CM. http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/mac/macos-march-2002-update.html
  8. That crossed out bit was a Salute with angle brackets around it. Now I know how to cross stuff out. Fate
  9. I'm done! Ari results sent in and last move against Vskalex sent. Tough tourney and I learned lots, sometimes too much at times. Had a lot of fun and will be going thru withdrawal, hope to get into more tourneys. <S> to all my valiant opponents. Fate
  10. 'Nother happy Apple lcd user, it absolutely rocks on my 22" Cinema Display. Fate
  11. Not WWII, but found an unexploded mortar in Hue on a trip to Vietnam. Have pic and will post it if I can find it. Fate
  12. I'd like to say as a honourary Nord, you guys are tough! I'm filling in for Ghost Dog and ummm... learning a lot. Please send reinforcements asap. Fate
  13. Just to verify, you do have os 9.2.2? This fixed my Nvidia geforce3 probs. Other thing that have caused me probs are mod sets. Some just don't work well with macs/nvidia, that one of somebodies with the babes is one, deanco's? Does the problem still occur with a base install, no mods? What res are you trying to play at? I seem to remember someone saying that 1024x768 had probs with the geforce. Fate
  14. Treeburst, I'm interested but will not be available until Dec 30. Fate
  15. Geforce3 with lcd cinema display. No problems with backgrounds 1600x1024. Installed SurlyBen's photorealistic skies and they work great. Got a small but discernable framerate increase in WBIII too. Fate
  16. Well. os9.2.2 is out and still CM from Osx doesn't work, but booting from 9.2.2 with nvidia geforce 3, I got backgrounds! Fate
  17. Hoop, CM works fine under 9.2.1 other than the black sky thing which is minor eye candy anyways. I think going back to 9.1 wold be a big mistake. If you really wanted, you could partition off a chunk of your disk and put it there, but there's really no need. In a year or two, there isn't going to be a lot of new os9 software coming out. Macs soon will be coming with osx only and that's where the developers of cutting edge software will be. Fate
  18. Nope, still black skies but a pretty minor issue compared to nice 3d and not locking up. Fate
  19. Well how about that! I went away from trying 1024x768 and went to 1600x1024 (native res on my Cinema Display) and it works and looks great! Also bumped up the memory from 60,000 to 80,000 which might of had something to do with it. Thanks for the nvidia tip, Schull. Fate
  20. Thanks for the info, pretty much as I supposed. Took out the Classic Rave extension but it puts it back in (don't know from where, removed it entirely from the system folder) when you fire up OSX and it goes into Classic Mode. The locks up loading 3d graphics. in 9.2.1 I can actually play for a bit in 1024x768 but the mousegame typically locks up after a bit of moving the views around. In 800x600, no problem. if i'm getting into 1024x768 at all, i guess i'm in hardware accelerated mode? 9.2.2 out in a few days with updated nvidia drivers, I'll try again then. Fate
  21. Recently got a new mac with a geforce 3. In reading thru the posts, it seems as tho the Classic Rave extension does not support the Rave api's used in CM. However, it freezes in Classic mode from OSX when I enter a email password. I find I must play it in 9.2.1 and make sure I switch to 800x600. This means I am running in software emulation. No major problems with this, except having to boot down into 9.2.1 everytime I want to play and i'd like to play with more res and hardware acceleration. So: 1. Anybody figure out or has it workin in Classic mode from osx? And if so how? 2. Anybody got hardware acceleration working in 9.2.1 with a geforce 3 (or any geforce)? Thanks Fate
  22. Thanks for the info guys. We've done all of them on the cd I believe. Alderinsel is a hoot and was one of the main reasons I was looking for more. Where would Rhine on the Run be found? As I mentioned, looking for water scens with assault boats. Fate
  23. Title says it all. Like timely reinforcements in realistic locations. Fate
  24. Well, I searched CMHQ and couldn't find them. Are they in the articles area? Fate ps: you can point me to what area they're in, or email them to me at kirkw@island.net Thx!
  25. Well, it's a pretty artificial situation, both sides having to exit opposite sides of the map. I can't picture how this would occur in a actual battle. There is no stated mission objective, but it would be get as many of your guys to exit while denying the other guy exit opportunities. But we're down to the short strokes, not too many moves left, the game seems very close, and I have the ability to take out a gun with mortar at no danger to myself. So I wish to maximize my points and fufill another unspoken mission objective, which is to win. Hence my question, more points to leave the gun there (which is required to exit) or blow it up? From one viewpoint, you could say this gun is effectively captured, and why waste ammo on it, from the other, it's still alive and dangerous and should be killed. So I'm going to follow the first viewpoint and bypass it. Besides, I think that'll get me more points. Fate
