Oops...just to be clear...I did not find an answer to the game lock up, so I could still use a drop on that. Thanks -
Game Locks Up
Grobdeutschland replied to kenfedoroff's topic in Strategic Command Tech Support Forum
Just looked all this stuff up & found out about a lot more...this game is simple & yet offers much deep strategy. I'm still learning but if anyone of you guys would like to take me "under your wing" I'll be sure to play with honor - Read: I don't cheat b/c I don't feel you can be a winner that way. I play for fun & to challenge my mind. "Winning" is just a side effect, of course a pleasent one I will miss the social aspects of board games, but the internet has really help this genre & games like this are a god send for us hex lovers. I can't wait for a PBEM game. I will be gone for the holidays but if anyone's willing to school (not abuse) a rookie just leave your mark. -
Game Locks Up
Grobdeutschland replied to kenfedoroff's topic in Strategic Command Tech Support Forum
I also have this problem & I can't get it to stop, even after updating everything. win98 2nd ed. has been good to me so I don't feel win2k should be the answer. Any suggestions? I just got the game 2 days ago & I can't stop playing it. The A.I. does a good job of defending, but is a bit weak on the attack. Some Qs: 1)Subs seem weak, any advice on how to use them better? 2)is R&D really worth the $$-I feel like the units which can be bought instead are a better value overall. 3)what is the bast bang-for-buck land/sea/air unit in SC. Thanks in advance. -
Thank you for your reponses, especially the picture post - that was a nice touch. Apparently there will be no problems finding opponents to play with and for that reason alone the game should be well worth it. As soon as I get a copy and have had time to sharpen my wits I'll be looking for a few good men...or women or whatever. See you guys soon. PS: JIMR -Good point- Developers that continually support their products long after release will always get my business. This has been the key to success for Battlefront.com and I hope the "other guys" learn this some day.

I've been holding out for a long time...waiting & searching for a grand strategy WW2 game & I wonder if this is it. I have just 2 Q's that my 1 hour of reading the player's posts has not yet clarified: 1) I've read the A.I. is not great, but can it provide a (no cheating) challenge at it's maxed settings. 2) How well does the e-mail play, is it intuitive & secure? I'm sure I could've found the answers if I tried to, however, I also wanted to express my joy in seeing that the wargaming community is alive & well. I intend to order SC & run it through the meatgrinder, but I've been burned before so I'd appreciate some feedback first. To the last man, shall we?

This is why I love CM & all the people who have helped bring it to us gamers...The guys I paid cash to so I can get this game care enough to answer our Q's & debate certain topics. This fact ALONE will make me a CMer for life! Right or Wrong, they reply to us & that's why I'll always be a customer. BTW, I feel the game as a whole is fine. There are more then enough ways for players to "make it all fair". They just have to agree on some rules, why mess with a good thing. Everyone has made some very good points, however, I think we can all use some more "tact"...it can't hurt....

BTS- I go around the net using your name like a cure for cancer. Other games fall short all the time (sea dogs, & about 10 million others) but you guys have set the standard. Be proud...be very proud. You guys are the bomb, the ****, the greatest, the mac daddy, the ... well, anyways, I'm sure you get my meaning. But just in case you don't ---- THANKS ------------------ "Far better it is To dare mighty things... Then to take rank with Those poor, timid spirits Who know neither Victory nor defeat." I only PBEM. I like it & don't have the time to sit out a net game. Plus, it lets me do other things as well, talk to my wife, eat, potty, etc...if I'd play online I'd be a lonely, slowly starving, constipated, sleep deprived, young man. ------------------ "Far better it is To dare mighty things... Setup phase skipped during QB

Yup, thats what I do sometimes- save the setup & do it later. This must've been it, b/c I did it with both games. Thanks Guys -
...for the great notes on the Sherman. I don't play the US much so your info cleared up some stuff. Most of The people (players, moderators, kings, & queens) on this forum are always willing to help & I thank you all. I've found a place where my passion for wargames is shared by many. BTS should be proud of the community they have help to create & maintain. ------------------ "Far better it is To dare mighty things... I agree with B&P, I use them to move troops to key terrain positions. There are great mobile fire support teams. I used 2 of the m3a1 to repel a CA on one of my weak flanks. Keep away (250m) from all unoccupied opposition, when your INF are keeping the other guys INF busy bring them in at about 150m & watch the enemy's troops crumbly. ------------------ "Far better it is To dare mighty things... Great Info, thanks. I would add some of my own highly respected advice but I HAVE TO GET SOME SLEEP!!!! Almost 4am & CM is on my mind! Damn it, were are those sheep when you need them. I'm gonna be a dead man walking the mail tomorrow. ------------------ "Far better it is To dare mighty things... Then to take rank with Those poor, timid spirits Who know neither Victory nor defeat." Setup phase skipped during QB
Grobdeutschland replied to Fernando's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
This has happened to me in two pbem games today. I setup & my opponent says he can't setup he's forces (skips his setup phase). But in other games my opponents don't have a prob, so I fig. it's something w/their sys. I've never had any probs in my setups? I told them to report it to you matt, but I'm not sure if they have. ------------------ "Far better it is To dare mighty things... COMBAT MISSIONS: Unit Research - Hetzer
Grobdeutschland replied to Manx's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
It's a great TD. I agree curih, but I would like to add: PROS: Low profile-makes it hard to spot & hit Good mobility- not great, just good Great Upper front armor- can't be beat by most allied weapons at any range-placed in a hull down position, & from afar a hetzer can rule. CONS: Slow ROF- can be offset by buying more a more experience hetzer- the cost is nothing compared to the gain. IMHO you can't find a better deal anywhere. The best bang for buck unit. I love my hetzers, & know how to use'em Don't use it as your main support, but to guard your flanks & command hull down positions on key supportive terrain. ------------------ "Far better it is To dare mighty things... If you compare the buy bucks it will take to get a 17 pdr w/ transport I think people will start to like the Archer. I've done some testing & I feel on the defense the allies could really use that mobile Heavy AT gun, b/c that's what it really is. Yes, there are much better tanks, but for the same hitting power you will pay much more. Killing power is what the allies need. The germs can use Hetzers, which is also cost effective & have all the power they need to defeat Allied armor as a mobile backup/flank guard. The allies can use the Archer. Remember: small field of fire, place deep in S-woods (it has great ground Pressure & a small profile) to help hide it & retreat after 2 shots-have a pre-planned 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc...fire positions & support them w/INF, esp. w/AT teams. to cover their butts from those fast pumas. Now I know this makes it hard to work with, however, a good player can use one to great advantage. I love the little GI's...Let people think what they may...if you like what you do & have stated you mean no offense, then the hell with the rest of the world! That's coming from a Vet of the "easy" war, so I know how it feels when you think someone is "demeaning" your experience...still I believe in freedom of speech for all (yes, even for assholes). ------------------ "Far better it is To dare mighty things... Why squares instead of hexagons?
Grobdeutschland replied to Triggerhappy's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Cool pic & thanks...not everyone has been here from the start. Now that I've "moved in" it's like discovering antiques in a new home Also I see BTS used triangles for the unit base's. I like'em, makes it easier to determine facing. ------------------ "Far better it is To dare mighty things... Then to take rank with Those poor, timid spirits Who know neither Victory nor defeat."
