  1. I'd like to second the Rangers suggestion. Have played it a few times (but not pbem) and it is probably my fave scenario so far. both sides have to attack and defend at the same time (with different forces) and are pretty well matched. I will gladly partner anyone interested in a pbem. steve
  2. I'm up for it! therat@thelair.co.uk
  3. hey there folks an operation idea: what about a nice battle for caan. we brits took ages getting it (was supposed to be taken on d-day!). it involves a whole myriad of troops and weapon types and might be a good pbem game, being quite well balanced. would also be a nice transition from open field to hand to hand city fighting. how about it wbw? steve
  4. hey dogcow I'm jealous, I really am. I remember that feeling of frustration and anger. but I also remember the imense satisfaction when I understood what I was doing and saw my plan coming together. I thought I could help by reminding you of the basics. the entry level basics: 1. read and understand your brief and objectives 2. maticulously study the map 3. calculate what force you might need for each objective 4. plan your attack/defence using as many terrain effects to your advantage 5. execute your plan making adjustments according to changing situations I hope that these 5 points help you out. this game truly is fantastic to play - win or lose! Steve
  5. hey WBW if you are ever passing London you are more than welcome to drop in. bring some books and I'll even make you a good cup of tea! Steve
  6. thanks WBW, but I have a cunning plan... there are squillions of you US historian blokes, so another one, especially one starting at nearly the beginning, will have nothing new to offer. what I propose is to research the UK and Commonwealth army division by division. as I live in the UK, research materials are easier to come by. watch out for brit oriented scenarios (in about 5 years time!) 7. Holy jesus WBW! That's like a whole library! It's gonna take me a while to get through that lot (not to mention the fortune they're gonna cost to buy!) Cheers though! 8. hey there WBW can you post some sreenshots to me please? sounds like a great encounter (for the CE's anyway!). what is your best research resource for finding these things out anyway? you seem to be right in the thick of it in the war stories stakes. humbly, Steve therat@thelair.co.uk ------------------ You have to know when to hold them, know when to fold them, know when to walk away and know when to run... 9. Cheers mate. Haven't got it yet so was unaware! ------------------ You have to know when to hold them, know when to fold them, know when to walk away and know when to run... The Gambler
  10. Has anyone developed a scenario/operation involving the British 6th Airborne and Pegasus Bridge? It's a midnight assault on two bridges NE of Caen in the early hours of D Day. Could be a very exciting game - take and hold two bridges over the River Orne and Caen Canal. Has plenty of German counter attacks by men and machinery, eventually relieved twelve hours later by British Commandos. Can help with any stats if required. Steve
  11. Hello folks, in particular Wild Bill. Have been reading comments alot recently and has persuaded me to buy the game. Previously, was a board gamer using Firefly 1/300 rules. Once I get the game and experiment a bit (placed the order today!) I would love to play-test some of your battles. That goes for anyone else too. I have a few research materials and historical accounts if you need advice/back-up. Can't wait to get started. Have played the demo more times that I can count, experimenting with different tactics. Best so far is 25 casualties (8 KIA) for 95 points and total allied victory. Anyone beat that? Anyway people, lead on.
  12. hello yes, I would love to test. will it play in the demo? I'm waiting for the full version to arrive. send to therat@thelair.co.uk steve
  13. hello everyone, excellent game. have been looking for something like this for years, having been a keen tabletop player. only have the demo until the full version arrives in the uk, and have just completed 'vally of trouble'. if anyone would like to see my after action battle report mail me at therat@thelair.co.uk and I'll tell you all about it. it was quite impressive - sweeping flank attacks and a drive down the middle with reinforcements. completed with just 14 men kia and morale still in 90's! anyone beat that? anyway, until I get the full version, anyone got any add-ons for the demo (if poss) or want to play an email game? as you were comanders. out steve
