  1. Unintentional flamethrower..... I set three buildings on fire last night by firing Panzershrecks from them. Not real funny since it cost my half of my defensive line and much valuable cover.
  2. The Stuart that killed my Jpz-70 was a real pain in the butt. It charged into the middle of the town I was defending, got off two quick shots that killed the panzer (first killed a crew member, second killed the tank), then proceeded to wade through my defenses for the next couple of minutes (killing about a dozen of my grenadiers), before I was able to move my Jpz-Iv around and put a 75mm in his rear. It was very disconcerting to have such a speed demon move through what I thought was a nicely placed defensive position.
  3. Anyone tested the effectiveness of the artillery VT rounds? I haven't had the chance yet and wondered if anyone has used them or been on the receiving end.
  4. Russia continued producing T-34/85s until the late 1950's for export purposes. Several African countries have them, Cuba, and most of the old WP countries had them (even East Germany had a few hundred still in service until 1989). I doubt that many are still fully operational, but they were perfect for export to Third World countries that needed a simple to operate MBT, and couldn't afford the newer models.
  5. Actually, the whole point of targeting an abandoned or knocked out tank is to get it to burn. Even if a tank is knocked out (i.e. no burning), it can still be recovered.
  6. I have fallen in love with Hetzers, JP-IV's, and JPz-70s. You get a good bang for the buck (especially in defense scenarios) and the frontal armor is proof against most allied 75mm and bazooka rounds. I tried to get three or four, hold them in reserve, then move them out once I determine the main push of the allied attack. Of course, the weak side armor is a definite disadvantage, as I had a Stuart take a JPz-70 out from the side from 400m.
  7. Night Combat is a pain in the butt. I tried paintball at night once, and believe me, I will never do it again. You can't see anything, sounds are distorted, and conditions could not be worse for combat. I'm sure that your troopers might have thought they were running to safety, but as in all combats, you never know what is around the next corner, especially if you can't see more than 10ft in front of you.
  8. Anyone have the .bmp file names for the original grass? And BTW, I love the new graphics and sounds. I played a few hours last night and fell in love (not that I didn't like it before, but the MDMP takes CM to a whole new level). I can't wait for the second one!!! 9. Actually, I find the AI to be a pretty good attacker. It tends to concentrate on one area of my defensive line, supressing my infantry and MG's, and using cover pretty effectively. Last night, I managed to stop the AI cold, but it was in heavy fog, town, and 1000pts. I was able to concentrate MG's across a courtyard and annihilate the supporting Halftracks & tanks with my own Hetzers. The AI did make use of smoke and such, but I had too much firepower concentrated in such a small area that even 2x the number of attackers wouldn't have made a difference. The final tally was 5 defender losses (mine) vs. 165 attacker losses (his).
  10. First, I downloaded the MDMP-1 and have a couple of questions: 1) Does the Mod pack change the explosion graphics? I don't seem to have the new explosions (1.2 version) anymore. 2) If I turn off the smoke, does this also turn off the new explosions (the black smoke?) 3) I downloaded the mod-pack with the lo-res grass and I definitely still notice the lack of height changes on the battlefield. Which graphics pack should I download to get the best? 4) I played a snow scenario last night and the SS didn't have winter uniforms...will this be added? And finally, I love MG-42's. I was defending against an American battalion last night in heavy fog and managed to hold the line (in a courtyard no less) with three MG-42's. Every time the Americans tried to rush me, the combined fire of these three units would stop them cold. I love the fog.
  11. The Germans (actually European SS volunteers) held a defensive bridgehead on the eastern side of the Narva River throughout 1944 against massive Russian assaults. The German defensive position on the Dnepr in 1943 was compromised when the Russians were able to secure a bridgehead on the western bank. It was through the bridgehead that the Russians launched their winter offensive and cleared out Kiev and most of the Ukraine.
  12. Last night I did a quick combat- SS vs. English. I was SS and saw an amazing bit of work by one of my PaK75-43's. This gun engaged and destroyed 3 Cromwell's, 2 White Scout Cars, 3 Humbars, and 2 M5A1's (plus 5 infantry losses). All of this while under fire from several platoons of infantry and vehicles. Half the losses were inflicted when half the gun crew had been put out of action. Definitely tops my list of heros at the moment. (In the same game I had a flamethrower hidden in a building charged by an English platoon. Unfortunately, he waited to flame them until they were in the building with them. The building caught fire and both sides were killed).
  13. Any place around here to get CM wallpaper for my computer? How about wav.files & icons?

  15. Though I liked the Patriot, it was definitely heavy-handed. Everything the Americans did was justified by the absolute villiany of the English. There wasn't any grey, it was all black and white. They could have lost an hour of screen time and not effected the story one bit.
  16. Just wanted to publicly thank BTS for their great service on my behalf. I ordered CM about 10 days ago, but somehow my order got lost. I notified BTS, they checked on the problem, and confirmed that my order had been misplaced. In return, they next-day aired CM to me at no extra charge. I can't wait to get home and try it out (if my wife and my mother-in-law haven't killed each other by the this afternoon). Thanks again!!!
