  2. ParaBellum,

This is not the case for me. I was playing "A Walk in Paris" in CM 1.12 when ordered a sharpshooter, who was well ahead from the rest, refuse to move upstairs, but rather stay at the same location at the buttom floor.

  3. A little bit of salt: I remember from Ospey Books on Battle of Kurst, the Sovets AT rifle teams were still active by that time. It was essentially a two-men team. The rifle was really long and it had muzzle brake. Gotta search for more info back home.

  4. Hal,

Since I only work with Asus mobo before, here is the take.

    Ref: http://www.gotapex.com/reviews.php?rev=a7m/index.html

Asus A7M266 can only o/c the front-side bus (FSB) but unable to increase the cpu frequency via increasing the VCore voltage.

In the BIOS screen, there is a "advance" menu where you can adjust the fsb speed at 1MHz increment. Adjusting this changes the appearent speed of CPU.

    Hope it helps.

OTOH, I checked the info of new MP DDR mobo. Not sure about if the performance of KT266 is better than AMD760 but inital impressions from e-Zone are pretty good. I think o/c using MP mobo is similar to those of other mobo. The only think you need to worry is the price of DDR RAM. They are no where widely available as PC-133 SDRAM. I think fttb your best bet may be a KT-133A mobo, Type C Althon and ATA-100 HDD.

  6. Hello Hal, LTNS!

I am using Asus A7M266. Okay I am a die-hard Asus fans and I know one or two guys in Horninnton because of this.

My mobo o/c through BIOS. I read a lot how to o/c the Asus from reviews like Got Apex and AMDZone.

BTW, what is your config? How is it running? Hope you get yourself a new video card.

  8. Since you do not provide the details of the 3 configurations, I am going in a generalized manner.

View the threads on AMD CPUs below. Currently, Durons processors give you the best bang of the buck.

For video cards, nVidia is the king of the hill right now. Mid-priced GeForce 2GTS is of good price and quality. You may wish to invesst into a GeForce 2MX which costs similar to ATI 2000 or a 64MB GeForce 2Ultra if you have a bigger budget.

Make sure you have get a mobo which supports ATA-100 HDD. There are a large variety of choices and the price of HDD is cheap.

    My config (repost):

    AMD Althon Type B Thunderbird 1.2GHz (o/c to 1356Hz)

    Asus A7M266 motherboard

    2x 128MB Samsung PC2100 DDR RAM

    IBM Deskpro ATA100 46GB HDD

Asus V7700 pure GeForce 2GTS video card w/32MB

    Asus 4x DVD ROM

    FOP-38 cooler + fan

It costs me a small fortune and I can play CM and fly with very smooth descent frame rate.

  9. Yet another A7M266 user.

    Althon T-Bird 1.2 GHz (Type B)

    256MB Samsung PC2100 DDR RAM

    Asus GeForce 2GTS

    IBM 7200RPM 46GB HDD

    Asus 4x DVD ROM

    Win98SE

    PC-100 case -- 3 fans (can't remember the brand)

    FOP-38 cooling

CM is the first game to try on this system it runs charm at 1024x768.

I notice a substainal improvements in turnaround time over P2-450. I used "A Walk in Paris". May be a larger scenarioes like "August Bank Holiday" or "South to Sword Beach" may give me better idea.

If you are planning to go T-Bird 1+ GHz, make sure you get a good cooling and ventilation environment cause it is much too hot!.

If you want to go o/c, I suggest a 1.0GB type B T-Bird rather than higher models cause you get high o/c percentage than 1.2GB ones. Also note the new type "C" may not be as good as type B, see:

    http://www.gotapex.com/reviews.php?rev=tbird12/index.html

    This is just in:

    http://fullon3d.com/reports/athlon/

Yet another article showing how P4-1500 is not worth your hard-earned cash right now.

If you want to test how hot your system can go, try a complex flight-sim like Falcon 4 and Flanker 2. It pushes your system harder than SETI@Home. For example, the highest SETI@Home can go to 41 degree C but Falcon 4 pushes mine to 45 degree C!

    Good luck.

  11. MikeT and Vice,

I have sent a reply mail to Vice with the English Phrase file prepared by MikeT. Frankly, I have no script when I prepare the mods, just think the phrases I would be able to pronunce and laughed myself a lot when I hear my takes back. biggrin.gif

BTW, if MikeT don't mind and Vice want some laughs and/or want to have a diet, I can send Vice the sound files for reference. tongue.gif

  12. MikeT,

No offense taken. May be my shy nature has made you feel uneasy. Or may be I am too demanding to myself. I would apologize for my overreaction.

Vice, I strongly suggest you try, it is not hard, cause my first take took me less than 2 hours to complete. And I would like to hear an authentic speaker too.

Now we have Taiwan vs. Hong Kong on CM, just kidding of course. Haha smile.gif

    Griffin.

P.S. I have sent an email to Ed -- yes, the gentleman who wrote the excellent article on CM mod for CGO, about your upcoming DFDR TC and some others mods in the future. I suppose he has launched a military satellite over your web site by now.

  13. I go with DeanCo & Soddball. Don't sterotype.

For me, I play almost all game types except adventure (can't figure out those "puzzles") and RTS (can't keep up with it). It helps to ease the problem of "Combation Mission Beyond Overload". wink.gif

I remember playing a lot of computer AD&D and when "Planescape: Torment" came out, I don't realize it could be played this way until I read CGO's strategy guide (no spoilers). Well, along with the GREATEST storyline of RPG, PS:T is my favourite CRPG of all time!

As a counter example, there are some Japanese and Korean RPGs (and also "Legend of Korndor" from Sierra) which involve turn-based "tactical" combats. They are not exactly Zelda.

Some games are great as such they twisted a bit of the way of the game is played, even they are of the same genre. So please remember one thing making CMBO so great is WEGO system and its unique (for now) 3D view.

Now back to the Falcon 4.0 office desktop. Arrgh! I am still stuggling will all the patches and mods!

  14. CDIC,

Unfortunately, our current game concludes exactly opposite to the thead you pointed tongue.gif

B2T, I think Steve & Charles Co. stated very early, way before Beta Demo days, random factor do work in CM. It is said that a guy told them a scenario was too easy to beat. S&C Co. told him to try again, and this time, he was wipped.

    Gotta do-a-search for myself.

  15. You MUST BE kidding Vice! BTW, you are the first person I find in Taiwan playing CMBO.

About the sound files, talk to MikeT, he owns the "copyright" (or "copyleft" if you like).

Anyway, may be you can do the mod better than I do. MikeT, take note! Hint, hint, hint, hint.

OTOH, please do not put me on the credit, please. Just in case.
