  1. OH boy, oh boy, oh boy.

Could today be the day? I don't know how the Gold Coast could get their copies before brisbane but I don't care now.

Typical though, I've just started a Pbem game of VoT, it's gonna be a bit hard to concentrate on that with a whole world of new scenarios to explore.

Interesting point on the Pbem though, it's my first game like this and we've only played 1 turn, but my opponent rushed 1 of his shermans up at top speed WITH NO INFANTRY SUPPORT, such a crazy move took me by surprise as I was bringing 2 squads forward and by the 30 second mark it was obvious my guys were going to get caught in the open, all I could do was watch in horror when WHAM! that lovely anti tank gun fired 1 shot only and nailed him a beauty!

God I can hardly wait for the next turn!

  2. I'm currently reading a first hand account of life in the gross deuschland divison on the eastern front 1942-1945. In this troopers account of his experiences in a motorised company, motorcycle units were used to probe ahead of the main body of the force if they were operating in open country. In the event of enemy contact one unit would race off to report back while the others would attempt to gather enemy size and positions while harrassing the enemy with their MG42(?). The bmw cycles were tough as nails and could go like hell over fairly rough terrain.

Not much use in the front line I agree, but they were certainly not limited to transport/courier work. BTW, anyone got any info on the use and success of the Kettergrad(?) The half track motorcycle outfit?

  3. P.S. There's nothing wrong with an off topic thread as long as it is entertaining.

This one was meant to be fun, but trust somone to take it seriously and start beating their chest and getting all bent out of shape.

    Lighten up! tongue.gif

(edited for spelling mistakes, it late here!)

  4. Thanks for completing the profile Futbol, I think we're agreeing on the topic but disagreeing on our attitudes towards it. Maybe its because of the different education and taxation systems in our countries.

In this country, higher education is essentially free, although that is changing nowadays towards a more user pays system. I am half way through my 2nd degree and its a hellava long slog when you also work full time (I'm talking 6 years to complete) and I severely doubt that I would have even 1 degree if it cost $100K to complete as I beleive a law degree costs in the US ( pls correct me if my info is incorrect here) so perhaps you can excuse me if I have an attitude towards those who can achieve these educations because of the size of their wallets rather than the size of their brains.

Workers here pay tax on the size of their incomes, not the materials they use (although that also is changing) so for work done for cash which is not declared, effectively reduces the tax burden for that particular man. This is what our new tax system is trying to stamp out...

A quick note on the tax avoidance question, Kerry Packer, Australia's wealthiest man, who earns more in 10 minutes than I do in a year, the man who paid Elton John $1M to sing at his son's wedding ( which itself cost $15M) paid personal tax for the last 3 yrs of the grand sum of $15.

Was he cheating? Legally perhaps not, but morally..........?

  5. absolutely, what a pain in the arse it must have been for the germans when they needed all the fighting men at the front yet had to commit so many to the guarding of roads/train lines/bridges etc

Makes it hard to concentrate on the job in front of you when youv'e got one eye looking behind!

    Vive La France!

  6. Trouble is though that partisans confined their operations to what were basically terrorist attacks. What fun will there be in one or two german units being ambushed by a forest full of french partisans?

A stand up fight is unlikely to go the partisan's way without the benefit of heavy weapons/AFV's/artillery

  7. Now I'm not trying to start an arguement here, but the point I'm trying to make is that essentially, cheating is gaining an unfair advantage over the other guy, correct? Now having parents pay for your colledge education when you aren't smart enough to have earned a scholarship on your own is an unfair advantage, especially as far as the underpriveledged,(but intelligent) guy is concerned.

Paying cash to tradesmen IS a form of cheating, it cheats the government of revenue for which all other taxpayers have to make up. You see,? it's a grey area where every man has to draw his own line.

When you prepare your tax return, do you engage in "tax minimisation" or plain "tax dodging"?

I personally don't care whether capt'n manieri cheats or not as I know that one day a time will come where he cannot cheat and his previous actions will come back and bite him on the arse.

But I will defend his right to make his own decisions without fear or prejudice, be they right or wrong.

This thread is totally off base for CM, but it is a refreshing change from the "where's my CM?" or "woo hoo, I got it" ones.

P.S. Futbolhead, complete your profile a little,it'd be nice to know where and who I'm morally sparring with smile.gif

  8. Why is everyone jumping on this bandwagon about cheating in an exam. Isn't it also a form of cheating to have parents who can afford to put you through a good colledge, or a relative/freind/parent use their influence to help you get that job you want? Who has'nt used their buddy who works at an auto shop to get cheaper parts rather than buy directly over the counter like joe average would?

Who has a freind who is a plumber/electrician who does work for you for cash instead of putting it "on the books"? Does Tori Spelling cheat when she gets her dad to cast her in one of his shows?

You see gentlemen, cheating has a million forms and although I don't like it I am honest enough to admit that I am guilty of at least some of them. Who can really say that they don't cheat in some form some time? Coming down on some kid with a few notes in his pocket is kinda petty in the overall scheme of things, compared with say Bill Gates and his software monopoly deal. Live and let live.
