  1. Once there was a garden called 'sim'. This was a nice garden, very likewise to the one that you know of. The garden was keept by a few who maked it look pretty to the crowd. Then came Christmas eve and every kid was playing in the garden. Things started turning bad. First a few misunderstandings, then came the noise. Some of those who keept the garden started looking for another place. The winter went past but there was not enough people to make the garden look nice. Then came the spring and the weeds and soon the once nice garden went into a mess. The only answer to this problem is to keep the garden well, even though there may be some kids fooling around on it and some weeds beneath it. ------------------ Malmvig

  3. You may call me a Dutchman afterall ------------------ Malmvig
  4. First of all - I am a Dutchman if this thread is not going to be long and I don't buy this: 'I Don't want to see any reply to this topic just use your brains think about what I have said and act.' That's the same as throwing mud into somebody's face and then run away. Secound - I found this post when reading the news for today: "Wow This board is unprecedented for community closeness. Phenomenal. Just mind-melting. I wish you guys were all in Congress or on the president-elect's new staff in November. I'd feel great about America again. People that can work together and respect each other. What a concept. " I agree with every bit of it and I was somehow offended by your post because I may be behind some of those 'ideas about almost anything' you talk about. Third - what do you think about this post: "Survivor influenced UPDATE on....." Everybody who contribute to this board should also be able to come up with some of their idears without getting their head blown off. Some of them are veterans, others may be novices. With your post, your are telling everbody to back off and thereby doing your best to dull any initiative (which I hate). I can tell by the history of your's that you are a helpfull fellow so let's keep it that way. I can also be frustrated sometimes, when reading some stupid post but I always keep telling myselfe - this is one heck of a nice society to be member of and far much better than any other boards or NG's (God forbid the last one). 5. Thanks Adam for your answer. Yes you did pretty good coming up with the idear of cmrpg. In fact, that was the inspiration for the idear with CM-Arena. Not that they have anything in common, but you showed that it's possible to comeup with an idear without getting youselfe crushed by people who knows better. You also gave this forum a chance of showing it's maturity and your effort paid off Yes I know that Fionn and Madmatt have someting likewise going on at cmhq but I had not learned what's it's all about yet. Before I 'am going any further I need to investigate this and see if there is an overlap. Henrik
  6. Hmm - lately I had another problem with ambushes. It seems that my some of my units sometimes forgets it's ambush marker. Once, I had to setup the ambush tree times (once for every order phase) before the marker was keept in place. Another unit had it's marker keept in place all the time. I don't see why the difference. But the lenght painted in blue is still something that I am not habit with. Henrik Malmvig
  7. Have you checked the individual units specs? In the manual it is stated that not all unit have equal level of expirence. Someone may be more expirenced than others. Just a thourght. Malmvig
  8. Dont know about the Survivor but about the POTD - where does the big 'A' come from? Malmvig
  9. I withdraw my request until futher notice, I guess you had your hands full already Malmvig
  10. Hi Pillar When do all of us, whom are on the waiting list, get a try with CMRPG? I hope you are keeping a list because I was rejected by Thomas because his roster was full :confused Yours Sincerely Henrik Malmvig
  11. Are you good or bad to CM? If there was a competion, where would you be located on an international highscore list? This is the questions that I had asked myselfe a lot of times, when my friend continued kicking my butt. Think of following setup: Scenario, with a small map created by a gamemaster -- Predefined forces, should be somewhat equal in strength (points) -- The map layout is focused on tactical gameplay -- Low count of turns, about 10 or so -- You get your first pbem from your opponent and the game begin -- When the first game is finish, you and your opponent play the same scenario once more, but this time you 'turn the table' and play the other side. When the secound game is finish - you have played one match. -- You add your score of the match by sending your last received pbem file from each game, one from each side of the 'table'. Your opponent does the same. -- The gamemaster is responsible of calculating the score, by adding the two scores from each game together. -- The gamemaster then sends the result together with the scenario to the webmaster - Me, whom is responsible for keeping a Highscore list for each scenario on the website. The highscore list is kept together with the scenario and the e-mail of the gamemaster. -- Who ever want to contest the score, downloads the scenario and e-mail the gamemaster who then respond with a email of an opponent. --------------------------- Comment: There is a little flaw about this, but I think it would be void in the progress of playing multible games. Ofcause, the players knows the scenario at hand on their secound game but this would be equal terms for both of them and for all others to come. There may also be a difference between, playing assualt and meeting engagement. I think that the meeting engagement is more suitable to the CM-Arena than other kind of setup's. First I would like to hear your comments. Think about it for a few secounds and then send your reply. Good or bad, lets hear about it. I am also looking for a few 'beta testers' and maybe there are somebody out there with a scenarion suitable for a test run? Yours Sincerely Henrik Malmvig
  12. After 57 replies I think it would be time to summary the result: Wargamer: 2 From a Friend: 3 CloseCombatForum: 5 CDMAG: 6 CGW: 2 Other: 9 Avalon Hill: 5 GameSpot: 3 Combatsim: 5 Strategy Plus: 1 Computer Games Online: 1 Games Domain: 1 SL:1 AVAULT: 1 SPWAW: 1 ACW Game Club: 1 PCGamer: 1 Panzer Elite Board: 1 Atomic: 1 BTS: 2 Unknown:5 There are replies from people that had heard of CM as early as '97! I think they got good value for their patience The number counted under Avalon Hill gives away an indication of the interest from the SL society. Henrik Malmvig
  13. Hi Hans 'I instantly saw that CM was superior (and have given my CC disks away).' Yes I agree with you that when playing CM, Close Combat seems a bit unrealistic. I especially miss the difference in terran level and the LOS tool Henrik Malmvig
  14. I'am embarrassed to say that I did not know that the M8 was that kind of an opponent. If an 37mm can do that kind of damage it may have something to do with the velocity of it's shell. I'am in the beginneing of a pbem against US mechanized forces so I may have a big supprise on my hand. But anyway, I still think that my 75mm cannon would do some harm, even against them M8th The kinetic energy of an 75mm shell may be a little bit stronger than the 37mm over a longer distance but I realized that it's nessesary to know that stats. I just thourght that the 75mm was superior to the 37mm shell. Thanks Henrik Malmvig
  15. In the light of game balance it would be nice to have a US equivalent to the 251/9 or some mechanized unit that is cable to do the wrestling with the Puma. The british have the Daimler which is cable of destroying some tanks like the German Stug. In Combat Mission, the US army totally lack mechanized support. My guess would be that the M3A1, M2 75mm L/28 version would be in a position to change the score a little bit. This is ofcause only true when playing the mechanized infantery without tank support. I would claim that if the M10 was added to the list of Armored/Scout or the M3A1 was added, it would become more fun to play the Americans in a mechanized battle. However, I think that many would perfer to include tanks in their battles which would make these changes obsolete. But the option may still be put to a test, if the BTS plan to extend the OOB. 16. Hi Jarhead I remember reading an article concerning Westfron pbem. It may be something Wild Bill wrote before thegamers.net design was updated. It is a very usefull guide, keep it handy when playing pbem. Try asking for this document on this forum, somebody may have it close by. Back to your problem: It looks like you and your friend are using different filenames for every turn. I think this is a bad habit. Using the same filename excluded the probability of mixing the turns. If you extract your opponents turn directly in your pbem directory the only task you got on your hand is to open CM, choose Join Multiplayer Game, choose the pbem option and load the file. You never had to worry about what the name of the file is because it is always the same, and when you finished your turn just overwrite the file and send it back to your opponent. Ask your opponent to go one step back, starting with the turn you send. Remember to take a look on the timestamp every time. Best regards Henrik Malmvig
  17. I think It depense of the map. Sometimes you can't get a good line of fire (sight) from your position. Some maps included many obstructions of you spotters line of sight. That included woods, scattred or pines of trees. If your troops are in distress, your only support may be wide target at the enemy positions. Expecially, when using large shells, Target wide - could mean serious interdiction on the enemy force. If you had purchased spotters - you damn well need to use them. Remember - that your opponnent may had purchased other equitment for those you spent on spotters so he or she would have one more unit to throw at your forces. You had to make sure that every one of your spotters eliminate one enemy unit at least - else the calculater may return some red digits. Henrik Malmvig
  18. One of my previous threads 'Where did you the first time heard about CM?' - kford pointed out that CM was originally meant to be the PC version of ASL. This statement is supported by GameSpot's review of the same. I did not know however - until now. Once - I had the challange of becomming a member of the ASL society but failed to get into the stuff. I know however a lot of ASL players. The question is simple - can I present CM to those players, Would they adapt to this game, would they be thrilled, or would they be dissapointed? "I know all of those polls is annoying but if the purpose is to add some more people to the CM society? would it not be alright?" Henrik Malmvig
  19. kford wrote: "I heard of it a few years ago off a link on the Avalon Hill site. Of course then it was going to be squad leader. At first I was dissapointed that it wasn't going to be just like the board game but now I am much happier with this format." kford - could it be that many in the CM society is originally ASL players? Is it a fact that CM was meant to be a PC version of ASL? and is it a fact that when Avalon Hill was purchased by Hasbro - BTS was formed? Still learning Henrik Malmvig
  20. Thanks gentlemen - but this thread would not be of any value if you are not including the time when you had your experince Not the exact time but the year and the month would do just fine. Sorry for the interruption Carring on - and thank you! Henrik Malmvig
  21. If by 'including a roster' mean including an easy way to see all your units and quick selecting one of those for the purpose of setup or ordering commands I'am in Henrik Malmvig
  22. Thanks to Phil the Dill we now know where we all come from Now - When and where did you learned of the existence of CM? - I learned from a friend whom I was playing Pbem in WestFront against. He draged me over to his place to take a view on a new game that he wanted to be our next pbem target. When he showed me how good the AI was - I mailed my order We are now in the middle of our first cmpbem of many to come (I hope) Henrik Malmvig
  23. Hi Phil the Dill One more danish here - I know there are more but how shy they are, ain't they Thanks for the thread. Would be very handy when CM goes TCPIP Henrik Malmvig

Don't you agree that it would be devasting to our interests if someone over reacted and applied the same yardstick on every game? Prohibit War Games as an example? I know this sound stupid however - in my Country, Govermental regulation is a daily buisiness. You never know were they strikes next. Nonesense ..? not really - It's a fact that some Goverments already had effectuated regulations in this area. I think however that nonsens would be, for the gaming industry, to not listen to this warning. Someone is just saying that 'If you do not clear your own back yard somebody else will' Henrik Malmvig
  25. On Gamespot there is a discussion about govermental regulation. It seems that Canada and Indianapolis are taking some steps of regulations. I really think that we all had known this was coming. Violent games, like those were you are running people, or animals over with a truck only have the purpose of attracthing youngerst and their monny. If we gamers had managed to clearly make the statement that we do not tolerate this kind of nonsens and cleared up in our back yard, maybe governmental regulation would not had been necessary. Many gaming magazines had been on their guard for this raising problem and tried through statements to access their readers and get their oppoinion. Unfortunally without much success. It looks like the government meant buisiness this time and for that reason the gaming industry should be on guard to come up with some regulation themselfe or this might go crazy and getting out of control. If some movement against television games, or computer games get a stronghold we may end up playing LEGO. Their is a big risk that regulations will add to the amount of illegal copying and thereby reduce the profit on those games in discussion. It is not the first time that people with good intention force some laws that end up impacting unforseen areas. Where should the line be drawn? is CM violent? Would the cry of hurt crewmen be beeped away? Yours sincerely Henrik Malmvig Denmark
