  1. Does anyone here know where I could find some pics of Super Pershings? I have read Mr Coopers book( Death Traps ) and I would like to see more of the T26E4 "Super Pershing". I understand that only 12 of the beasts made to Europe, and then only 2 of those made it anywhere near combat, one with Mr Cooper with the 3rd Armored and one with the 2nd Armored Divison, IIRC. BTW, I would recommend anyone interested in WWII armor read Mr Coopers book, it's quite a read. He witnessed a Super Pershing test firing on a JPZ IV 75L48. At a distance of over 1500 meters the Super completely perforated the JPZ! Through the hull armor, transmission, driveline, firewall and out the back of the vehicle! After all of that, the round buried itself so deeply into the ground that it could not be recovered. ------------------ Driver move out, Gunner take over...
  2. I have read somewhere that war is to man as giving birth is to women. It's something hard-wired into us, and nearly impossible to explain to the opposite sex. ------------------ I probably should of called myself S/SGT Lafayette Pool or maybe Lt Col Creighton Abrams...
  3. Won't copy. Will pre-order/order when I get home and pry my credit card out of my wife's hands. Showed people the movie, can't play the demo. But 2 people here are interested. I may buy a 2nd copy for my bro if he ever buys a computer.
  4. Hi, my name is Wotan, and I....I.....(gulp)..., I like to play the Allied side in war games! ( stunned silence ) I know, I know, I'm a freak, I admit it. I used to be just like you all. All a twitter over those pretty tanks and black uniforms. But it just got too easy. Playing SP1 as the Germans, I whooped some serious behind, let me tell ya! And Panzer General! Don't get me started! I even captured Moscow! ( and then lost it, then recaptured it! then lost it again, then rerecaptured it! etc, etc.) I mean, who could lose, with all those Panther Gs and Tiger IIs? I'd walk through Kursk in PZ on a whim, as a little light war gaming. Stroll through North Africa, heading for the Caucus(es?). And then, becoming bored with it all, I switched sides! I know, pretty radical, eh? I had a blast being the Brits in North Africa! I shed tears of joy the first time my Churchill knocked out a Tiger( well, maybe it was hay fever ). And the Americans! I can admit this now: I LOVE THE SHERMAN TANK! Boy, it feels good to get that off my chest. And now for something completely differant: 1. Are there going to be Fireflies in CM:BO? (How many of you know that an American tank unit in Italy was issued Fireflies? They did not get to use them in combat, though. ) 2. Are there going to be TOT (time on target) arty barrages in CM:BO in scenarios late in 44 and after? also, 3. What about air burst fuses for arty? We started using these in Dec 44, Battle of the Bulge. 4. Are there going to be (oh please, please, please) Calliopis in CM:BO? (you know the 40 rocket launcher on a M4A3) also, I've read on this site where American 105mm arty is called heavy arty????!! Come on! That's light arty, man! Even our 155 howitzers are sometimes classifed as medium! When we ( US ) mean heavy arty, we mean HEAVY ARTY! I want 8 inchers screaming overhead! I want to feel the earth shake under 240mm round impacts. I want to use my M12 as a 155mm sniper rifle! I want Typhoons spitting 5 inch rockets like they are a dime a dozen! I want Thunderbolts pouring 50 cal rounds and Invaders spewing 500lbers! I WANT ALL THIS AND MORE AND I CAN'T EVEN PLAY THE &%$#&& DEMO BECAUSE *%($#^* WINDOWS NT DOESN'T HAVE DIRECT X!!!!!!!! I WANT(&^%*#($*$&$&(#@)@_$(*FJJSMMSL.................( sound of a strait jacket being put on ) ------------------ I probably should of called myself S/SGT Lafayette Pool or maybe Lt Col Creighton Abrams...
  5. Wild Bill, Thanks for including a US tanker in a scenario. Did you make he and his tank crew more experianced? For those of you who don't know who S/SGT Lafayette was, he was a platoon SGT in the 32nd Armored Regiment of the US 3rd Armored Division. In only 83 days of combat he was credited with destroying 258 German tanks, SP guns & armored vehicles. He was twice recommended for the Medal of Honor. He commanded 3 differant Shermans, the first was either a M4 or M4A1 75, the next two were both M4A1 76s, all named "In the Mood". It's rare to see an allied tanker mentioned on a war gaming site, most people are really into the German side of the battles. Wild Bill, my hat's off to you! ------------------ I probably should of called myself S/SGT Lafayette Pool or maybe Lt Col Creighton Abrams...
  6. The vehicle you describe sounds a bit like a late war( for them, anyway )Italian SPG. I know of a few Japanese vehicles that are fairly close to that description, also. Your best bet is probably to get a few photos of it and post it around. Try posting it here or maybe try www.missing-lynx.com ------------------ I probably should of called myself S/SGT Lafayette Pool or maybe Lt Col Creighton Abrams...
  7. Sometimes after I post a reply on this board I am unable to read it. What's up with that? Anyone else having this problem? I am refreshing my page and still no luck. ****....Marines just lost an Osprey... ------------------ I probably should of called myself S/SGT Lafayette Pool or maybe Lt Col Creighton Abrams...
  8. I can't really fix either system that I have the demo loaded on. Neither system is really 'mine' to change video cards or OS's on. So I'll just wait and suffer I guess. ( sniff, sniff ) I plan on playing both CMBO and SPW@W until I puke ( or my wife kicks my ass, which ever comes first ) when I get back to the states. That and play with my daughter. And watch TV. And drink beer. AND GET LAID!!!! ( mmmmmmmm, boobies.....) ------------------ I should of called myself S/SGT Lafayette Pool or maybe Lt Col Creighton Abrams...
  9. Yes, I am in my own private HELL!! ------------------ "Driver move out, Gunner take over"
  10. I thought you wanted ideas for scenarios, Panzerleader? It wouldn't be much of scenario if you had the Germans and were on the attack and I was playing the US side on defense with a river between us and no bridge, now would it? ( NAW NAW, YOU CAN'T GET ME! ) On the fuel issue, I can't even get the #@^#&^ demo to play right now, but you probably could limit the ammo, right? Instead of a race for fuel depots, how about a race for ammo depots instead? As for "An experienced player wouldnt try and use large cumbersome armor in winding streets except in an ambush role", read Gerald Astors "A Blood Dimmed Tide" or Charles MacDonalds "A Time For Trumpets". An experienced player wouldn't try that, but experienced TANKERS DID try that, in war. ------------------ "Driver move out, Gunner take over"
  11. Indeed it is, Danno! I'm a complete newbie to CM:BO. I came here after following a link posted on the SPWAW forum. I now have the demo downloaded on 2(!) computers, AND I STILL CAN'T PLAY IT! ( one is a Windows NT machine, the other has a little-tiny video card[2 mb]) But I am still looking forward to CM:BOs release. By that time I should be home on a decent system. I am also looking forward to playing SPWAW when it is released. ------------------ "Driver move out, Gunner take over"
  12. Hmmm, Do they have tan painted M1A1's in Germany? I've never been there, so I can't say. I've had 2 friends look at this picture. One says it's Ft Hood, the other says it's Germany. ------------------ "Driver move out, Gunner take over"
  13. Some points to ponder: 1. The German ability to field some HEAVY equipment can be a drawback. Heavy means you can't use just any bridge to cross the river. Picture a scenario where the Germans are racing to cross a series of bridges while the Americans are racing to block them while they blow the bridges. 2. Heavy means they use a lot of fuel, which by late 1944 was in very short supply. Limit the German sides fuel and picture a race for some fuel dumps. 3. Heavy also means if you get stuck YOU ARE STUCK! Nothing could recover a Jadgtiger. Instant pillbox. 4. Also late war German vehicles tended to have very long gun tubes ( Panther, Tiger, Jagdpanther, etc.) The small European towns fought for during the Battle of the Bulge tending to have very narrow streets. These towns were usually in small, narrow valleys or were surrounded by dense pine forrest, forcing armor to travel through the town to press towards their objectives. A Shermans power traverse turret and shorter gun tube is an advantage in such cases. The short range also greatly increases the chance of a Sherman getting a penatration on a heavily armored foe. I have read of several cases where US tankers/bazooka men have fired at a Panthers gun tube as it creeps around a building. A hit there turns that fancy Panther G into a 45 ton Panzer I! 14. Ok, i'll give it a try: CM2-Ostwind (eastwind, btw) CM3-Burning Sands CM4-Blitzkreig
  15. Just an attempt to clear this up: These are M1A1's of the US Army or National Guard. (I drove a M1A1 for about 6 years) I've talked to other soldiers here who have been in both Ft Hood Texas and Germany. The area appears to be Fort Hood. The vehicles are tan, most, if not all, of the tanks in Germany are camo. It's a fairly recent picture, as the upper tank has an APU (auxillary power unit) on it's bustle rack. They both appear to be outfitted with MILES equipment as is at least one soldier. My National Guard unit had Nomex suits issued in 1992 with our M1A1's, I thought they were mandatory. I don't see and obvious Nomex suits ( one soldier appears to have on the mechanics coveralls though) or 'tanker' boots. My guess is all these soldiers are mechanics and/or crew of a nearby( note the cable being attached to the lower tank) M88A1.( that would explain the CVC helmets without Nomex suits ) My guess is all the tankers were too embarressed to be in the picture.
