Nobody ever said you couldn't own and like both SP and CM, did they?

Just a couple nights ago, in Loraks chat room, I asked how many people were going to get SPW@W, WWII online, sudden strike or any other war game besides CM. Seems like overall, WWII online is the only other interest. There just doesn't seem to me like a big excitement or interst in SP any more. Me personnaly, I don't like any HEX related games any more. It's a thing of the past. ------------------ Better to make the wrong decision than be the sorry son of a bitch to scared to make one at all
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by slazzari: That is an M1A1 Main Battle tank - you can tell by the 120mm main gun (notice the enlarged size of the bore evacuator). It indeed does have the Miles gear on - notice the hoffman device attatched to the barrel of the rear tank, and the yellow 'kill light' on the left (right actually) side of the turret - also, the GI with the gasmask has his miles harness on. Army training grounds all tend to look the same - but more than likely this is in Hoenfels, Germany, due to the vegitation (NTC tends to be alot more barren). If you notice the 'bottom' tank - it has its turret over the rear deck, but the tank on top does not. This indicates the bottom tank was already killed. More than likely, the top tank was reacting to whatever killed the bottom tank, and backed right up and over it in the heat of the battle.

Look at the number marking panels on the side of the turret. This may very well be Hohenfels. Taking a second look...your right, the hoffmans are there...and that one tanker is wearring his MILES harness. One out of the whole crowd......tankers were never known for wearing thier MILES Then again, mechanics have always been worse ------------------ Better to make the wrong decision than be the sorry son of a bitch to scared to make one at all
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Colin: Those sorta look like the British MBT (can't recall name now). I"M no expert but ar eyou sure those are American?

Collin... Look at the protective mask.(gas mask) Look at the "CAT EYES" on the back of the helmet. Look at the tankers communication helmet. I dont think this is a British PIC. As far as the tank model. It looks like the standard M1A1 heavey to me. ------------------ Better to make the wrong decision than be the sorry son of a bitch to scared to make one at all
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by killmore: Did you recognized the version of the tank? Or something else?

Hmmm.... Well from a quik glance, this accident looks like it happened at FT Knox, or some other training ground for CDATS. It was definately not at NTC, JRTC, or Hohenfels. The 3 US Army major training areas. I make that assupmtion because there is no gear hanging off the tanks, the troops aren't wearing "MILES" gear(laser engagement) and the tanks do not have MILES gear. This is all standard equipment for major training exercises. ------------------ Better to make the wrong decision than be the sorry son of a bitch to scared to make one at all

 6. I haven't spent much time on the SPW@W forum. But just browsing thru there, I didn't see the excitement like I do here. As far as I understand, SPW@W is going to be a huge improvement to the SP series. I mean, jumping from a DOS based to Windows based platform is big stuff IMO. Another thing I didn't care for was...... And i'm still not quite sure is, you will need to own SP3 to be able to play SPW@W...?? I have never palyed any SP editions. But, that definatley turned me off. I dont want to have to buy 2 games, SP W@W being full price, and then buy SP3 for reduced price. It just doesn't click. IMO, CM is steeling the thunder from the release of SPW@W. It just can't compete. ------------------ Better to make the wrong decision than be the sorry son of a bitch to scared to make one at all

 10.
quote:
Originally posted by Los: I think with a lot of us scenario designers our first and foremost priority (for historical scenarios at least) is to put the player "in the shoes" of this historical counterpart, be that in a balanced (Which almost never happens historically) unbalanced or whatever situation. (All this within the parameters of a FUN experience.)The player is given a mission and is graded on his RELATIVE PERFORMANCE to the mission goals, not on how many units he has to kill or whatever. Los

DITTO. I'll take the historical before balanced any day. Looking forward to some of your scenarios. ------------------ Better to make the wrong decision than be the sorry son of a bitch to scared to make one at all

 16. OK, don't bite my head off. I don't post with history books sitting in front of me. But getting back to the subject, the real war against germany IS being represented Right now. That's why they are doing the eastren front second. Oh, and all that lend lease stuff........ We all know war really sucks, you don't have to tell us. Lot's of combat veterans here on this board, including me. Don't take it personall cause someone wants to day dream about being in WWII as a grunt. They probably know it really sucked too. Sorry if you had personall tragedies, but only YOU will ever really understand them. Not us. ------------------ Better to make the wrong decision than be the sorry son of a bitch to scared to make one at all

 20. I really enjoy playing home made scenarios. Thats, until I find out you make sucky scenarios. But, I think there should be some historical design in mind though. If you can't get the terrain historicly correct At least try to get the order of battle accurate. I think these scenarios will be much more enjoyable than just some units thrown into the grinding machine on each side. Balanced or unbalanced, the scenario will be more fun if it's got some historical value. May be with a little background info attatched. Just MHO ------------------ Better to make the wrong decision than be the sorry son of a bitch to scared to make one at all
 21. QUOTE: IMHO, Combat Mission is nothing like Steel Panthers. If I had to compare it to a game, I would have to say it's most like Myth 2 or WarZone 2100, but with poorer graphics and an intentionally dumb tactical A/I. I personally didn't like it. I like to have an overall picture on the screen of what's going on so that I can take a break and come back in a week and not lose much. I can't ususally allocate the contiguous block of time that it takes to play a game of Combat Mission." END QUOTE That bastard, I will get him. He better not ever play CM with me. ------------------ Better to make the wrong decision than be the sorry son of a bitch to scared to make one at all
 22. SS; I think you should post this topic again after the release of the game. I personally will be interested in playing your scenarios. But I think we will have to wait and see how different troops in different environments react in the game. Only then will we know the quirks of the battle field. Hopefully, as BTS states, CM will be as realistic as an actual live battle field, where we can make the same descion in the game, as we would as commanders on an actual battle field. ------------------ Better to make the wrong decision than be the sorry son of a bitch to scared to make one at all
 23. Hehe.... I havn't even played a game and I already out rank people. May be I'll keep it like that, at least I know I'll never be a buck private. ------------------ Better to make the wrong decision than be the sorry son of a bitch to scared to make one at all
