  1. I thibk British Telecom have just annouced an ADSL package which comes in at £40 per month that allows downloads of 512K/s. No calls cahrges so can be kept on 24hrs a day. Bit pricey though.
  2. LOL No I just wondered if CM2 would spawn a new forum of whether it would be a continuation of this one. I mean - can this go on indefinately - or after sat 2Gb of posting will BTS call it a day ???
  3. Since first seeing this forum 3 months ago, a part of my daily routine has involved logging on and getting the latest news. After the release of CM will the fourm be kept open (ie. not follow Origin's example) ???? If so will members continue to post & use this as the main site re everything to do with CM ??? Would be a shame to lose this forum. Would also be nice to keep the momentum going to CM2..CM3...CM4...??? I just think that out of all the forums that have been created, this is something special. OK - sometimes it goes haywire - but generally it's a plus rather than a minus. Will it be kept open ? For how long ? Will we still post ????
  4. How does the film compare to Das Boot ?? I thought Das Boot was superb and really had a sense of tension and claustrophobia about it. Is this recreated in U-571 ??
  5. CoolColJ what have you decided to do with TweakedT v.2 - are you gonna release them ? They look STUNNING (v.1 was cool but not too radical - I dont think they were supposed to be). I was wondering how your modified church looked in the game - I noticed it had a kind of tower at the end - does this look a bit odd at certain angles seeing as this is a flat texture ??? SPR sound was great by the way - esp. sound of infantry. Some good screams in there. Any plans to modify sound even further ????
  6. Oh yeah - how steep a gradient can vehicles drive up - does it depend on the vehicle ? Would not be good news to see a KT hunting up a dam.
  7. Madmatt - I read in an ealrier thread that you were gonna test whether or not vehicles could drive off THE dam. What happened ? Did the game cope ? Did the Tiger sink ? How dod the vehicle fall ? Did the driver refuse to budge ? Just curious ? D'you know what would happen if there was a path up the side of a mountain which was being blocked by an immobilsed vehicle. Could it be pushed out of the way and off the mountainside or would it just be a case of permanently blocked path. Just curious again - trying to think up the most bizarre situations to see if the game mechanics could handle it. If not - no prob. PS: Dam(n) fine job your doing - glad to hear of your new website - somewhere else I can lose myself for a few hours.
  8. Each copy of CM will be packed lovingly by Steve and Charles, who will both wave a tearful farewell whn the courier comes to collect. After all it is their baby !
  9. Cool Axis armour vs Allied armour Objective Flag in middle of map. Maybe a slalom of houses ?
  10. Thx guys So were Hellcats the fastest piece fo heavy weaponry on tracks ???
  11. Was playing LD the other day & I couldn't believe how fast thos Hellcats can move down that road !!!!!!! How fast are they compared to other vehicles - say Cromwell, Firefly, Matilda, Tiger etc... ??????? Just wondered
  12. Finlandia by Sibelius. I dunno, it just sounds like a huge black cloud coming over the horizon.
  13. Yeah - and damn annoying !!! :mad I spent a while playing Commandos to get about 2/3 of the way thru the missions and then upgraded. AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH. I can't even play my favorite version of Joust or Tetris (released in about 93). Technology sometimes sucks !
  14. Thanks, but I have that already (within minutes of being released ). After the intro I presume one is taken to a main menu screen - is there music here also ??????
  15. :confused Since upgrading to a PIII last year I have found many of my old games virtually unplayable as they are now too fast - ie Commandos, UFO enemey unknown, PG (scroll speed too fast) etc... What is the answer to this ???? Should I just forget these old games ? I think hardware is availbable to slow down a CPU, but why can't some kind of internal check be incorporated into the game software ???? In 5 years time will CM be umplayable on my new PC because the map rotates too quickly ?????? :confused
  16. Searching on music and intro music provided no results - is there any music in the game pre battle ??? :confused Not that it is too important but to be greeted with some military drums upon loading the game would be cool.
  17. This is bad news. Will there be any wargames to play in 20 years time ? Today, the emphasis does seem to be on graphics and "action". Not much consideration is given to those who want a good game with a steep learning curve and are willing to put in the effort to learn the game mechanism. Manuals are getting skimpier and skimpier and the depth of gameplay is becoming ever transparent. Even PG 3D and PGII had a considerably shorter manual than the original PG. Something must be done. BTS appear to have the answer - but surely the future of computer wargaming cannot rest on their shoulders alone. CM MUST be a success. It MUST entice other programmers/developers to go it alone. If not then all is lost.
  18. Don't really want the gold demo now that I know that the full game will be available in about 6 weeks. The gold demo will only have a life of about 3 weeks - even if it comes with only 2 new scanarios - is 3 weeks enough time to do them justice ????? Prob. not. I will download the Gold Demo but there is an argument in favour of holding back and waiting for the Full Monty.
  19. OK time for a repost. Here are a number of trivial questions that are causing me to lose sleep. 1 ) Does anyone know if Pegasus Bridge will be in the final ? (I like Pegasus Bridge) 2 ) How accurately will the terrain be modelled in the scenarios ? 3 ) Tough one here - and perhaps completely unrealistic - I have often thought it would be good to a have a wargame that would allow campaigns to played across entre countries or continents. Each continent divided into areas of 25km2. Each scenario representing an area. Some areas having little or no resistance. Would be good to say breakout of an area (Caen) and then have a series of 3 or more areas of no resistance before coming on say, Paris. I thought of designing a system with Steel Panthers whereby a "Power" would generate so many "resource points" per scanario turn to be used in building an army from a given area. These forces then had to be deployed via movement thru friendly territory. This proved completely unmanageable. With the release of CM and the points based "purchase of units" this idea has resurfaced. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to implement this or will it forever be a dream ???? 20. I have a good friend who introduced me to computer wargaming several years ago (I think it was UMS on the Atari ST). Anyway, we have both played a number of PBEM wargames - EFront, WFront, PG, PGII, SP series etc... I have tried to get him interested in CM - he downloaded the demo (after a lot of persuasion) & played LD as axis (whilst I was talking him thru tactics etc - Hellcats turn 10). He enjoyed the game so I suggested PBEM, set myself up as Allies, sent him the turn and waited. And waited. Three weeks have passed & he now says that he doesn't want to start PBEM 'cos LD is too predictanble as Hellcats will arrive on turn 10 & would be better if their arrival is less well defined !!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH. Help guys ! How do I convince him to change his mind with both the beta and the full game.
