  1. Ah, interesting suggestion. Sort of like an intercept movement order where you target a specific unit to engage/intercept/follow. Sounds like a good idea. Works for ships and planes, so why not for infantry? Maybe something for CM2 perhaps?

  2. I've asked this question a while back but I'm afraid it got lost. It concerns the HQ's spotting for mortars:

Once in a game I had my Company Commander spot for my mortars. I waited a long time before I opened fire with the mortars and the barrage coincided with the arrival of a reinforcement platoon's HQ coming up from behind. Its path moved it closer to my mortars than the Company Commander was and it effectively "took over command" of them from the Company Commander in 'mid-barrage!'

Now they were useless until the Reinforcement HQ got sufficiently 'out of the way.

There are more occasions that things like this might happen: It would be extremely frustrating, for instance, to see a paniced HQ fleeing in your mortar's direction, while you stand there, waving and yelling: "No, don't come any closer. If you come any closer, you just HAVE to assume command, sir!"

Is there a way to assign these mortars to a specific HQ?

    Guess not...

Any ideas anyone how to counter this problem, or has this happened to anyone else?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, Bill, this would indeed be handy. People may want to pick players that are awake at least some of the same hours that they are awake. It doesn't matter much when PBEMming, but this could be important in TCP/IP games I think.

  4. Hi TexasToast!

How to evaluate skills Vs AI? I usually take it one step at a time: Before I crank up the AI I want to win first. IF I win, I'll crank it up another 25%. Play again and, again, IF you win give the AI another 25%.

You'll find your limit one way or the other soon enough!

Cranking up opposition in PBEM games will only be needed (IMHO) if both players know the scenario so well that knowledge of certain key elements (like the exact arrival and location of certain reinforcements...)would unbalance the game (VoT is a good example. Riesberg would have been a good example too, I think).

If you want me to reserve a blind scenario from the full game against you, let me know which one, okay!

What exactly is that? Family friendly? Does it mean my mom and sister or even my granny can join in the fun too??

Gosh, I bet they'd really like that (NOT!). wink.gif

BTW, the "mustkeepstraightface' bit wasn't visible on the page before I replied to this post. ???

  6. Hi jmac!

Suggestion #1: forget everything you've learned from other games. What I mean is: don't think like "hey, this always worked when I played WF," cos it won't!

I have no doubt more suggestions will follow from several other members!

  7. Why d'you guys all want a part of the "Dutch Action" all of a sudden?

No, girlfriends do not count. Neither does liking our cooking. Buying your own dinner doesn't count, either. Sorry Matt.

Tell you what: Toss out the Nahverteidigungswaffe! I've got a new one for ya. If any of you can say "zeven scheef gesneden scheveningse scholletjes op een schoteltje" without stumbling over your own tongue, you're Dutch in my book, okay? smile.gif
