  1. This is maybe a trivial point, but why did the German's build the 88mm gun? Why not 90mm or some other size? Was there a compelling reason for the final choice?
  2. This is similar to my post earlier today in which one of my captured men stayed captured after I had entered the building where he was located. It seems to me he should rejoin my side at that point
  3. In a recent Quickbattle I had trees growing right in the middle of a road, which forced all the vehicles to detour. In the same battle a jeep crew was captured and was sitting in a building. two turns later I captured the building, but the crew still considered itself captured--I don't think the concept of parole would apply in this situation, or would it? I love this game: especially the quickbattles, they ensure you can't learn a scenarion and benefit from hindsight.
  4. In a Quickbattle I set the conditions for Infantry on both sides, late in the war. I was defending against a German attack and, as the attack proceeded it became clear that the Geran forces were almost entirely Panzerschrecks. What these poor guys hoped to achieve against infantry with MGs and mortars isn't clear but it became really spooky watching these waves of tired old men trudging steadily towards the village - and dying. It was reminiscent of the original Night of the Living Dead zombie scenes. The result was pretty predictable, final score 96:4, three dead on my side. I was going to include a screenshot but can't figure out how to copy it into this message
  5. I would like to be able to order a group to a specific location. Right now, if you select a group and move them, they maintain their current positions, relative to each other. I would like to be able to move a spread out group to a common endpoint, i.e. inside a building. Maybe an option+shift/drag could be used to distinguish between this and a normal group move.
  6. I really don't understand all the complaining: if you don't like the game, then don't play it.
  7. I have noticed that, occasionally, surrendered squads will suddenly take off and become actie again. Has anyone else seen this? If so, how do you prevent it?
  8. Its very impressive; maybe a WWII style voiceover would sound good. One tiny nitpick: it is kind of spooky watching the tanks roll through the snow without leaving any track marks. Can't wait for the CS and the new goodies
  9. It seems that the score you receive is out of a possible 100. Is it possible to score 100? Has anyone done so? On a related topic, what is smallest number of survivng opponents anyone has seen?
  10. This message is a three-parter. First: sometimes I find it confusing to follow some peoples descriptions of events. A statement such as 'I moved to the left house, near the clump of trees' may be ambiguous. Is there any thought to having a standard grid overlay with an on/off toggle? At the same time, and less important, how about a North arrow? Second: following my previous posting about how much we should be able to see, I see it went in ten directions, followed by assorted name-calling. All I really had in mind was a simple generic map until one of your units got LOS, then you would see the full detail. I know this still isn't fully realistic, but then being to fly over the entire battle field at any height wasn't too common in WWII either. Third: I have been playing, creating and testing war games since 1970, so I have seen a fairly good cross-section of the genre. I feel that CM is probably the best I have seen of its type, in terms of tactical level and ease of play. I realize many people want a game that does something very specific (e.g. being in control of everything, including inflating the tires of the bicycle brigade; the ability to control an entire tank army etc) but those are not the game the developers have created. In the end this is NOT a real simulation of WWII tactics, it is a great game and should be enjoyed as such. After all, if this were a real simulation then all you would see if what is in the LOS of the commander and everything else would come in as messages: not too interesting. So, enjoy the game that has been been provided and, if a 100% realistic simulation is the only thing that will make you happy, write your own.
  11. When a scenario starts we are able to view the entire terrain in complete detail. I know the tactical maps were pretty good (at least some of the time) but should we be able to know that there is a clump of trees behind that house etc? Is it possible in future upgrades to show a limited view, which upgrades based on LOS knowledge?
  12. Does the AI play the two sides using historic tactics for each army's training? For example, I believe the German doctrine was to always counter-attack after losing a position. Mike
  13. I have also found that running all the armor through town and waiting either side of the entry point for the Hellcats to appear is very effective, especially coupled with HE fire. But I also agree that this makes for very unsatisfactory gaming. I suppose you could convince yourself you knew about the hellcats arrival thanks to superb intelligence work?
  14. Where can I get the 3rd scenario? I have Reisenburg (sp?) and Last Defence but haven't seen a download for the 3rd Thanks Mike
  15. I have found a way of getting an Axis victory that nearly always works, but is so unrealistic that I don't use it. Button up your armor and run it as fast as possible to the American entry point. Then set your vehicles on either side of the road. On turn 9 have them start to move toward the road in Hunt mode. If you also have your HE timed to arive at the entry point at the start of turn 10 you can usually eliminate all the Hellcats and much of the infantry
