  1. Jeff Heidman and I were both working on a unit database. He finished his first while I worked on a unit availability chart and a unit point cost chart.

I have now completed a unit database (just vehicles at the moment) that incorporates both points and availability.

    It has COOL FEATURES!

    It has NEAT COLORS!

It has spiffy combo drop boxes! Don't know what a 'combo drop box' is? I didn't until the very helpful Robert Hall suggested I put them in and, *POOF*, in they went a few hours later. E-mail me and look at my WAY COOL unit database to find out.

    FREE while supplies last!!!

Oh, I should also mention that it is a MS Excel file. If I knew how to program in Visual Basic or C, I could make something everybody could use. I only know RPG and I don't think many of you have IBM AS/400s in your house.

For those who have Jeff's database, give mine a look. I think you'll like the way I laid things out.

Hey, somebody actually READ one of the links I posted wink.gif. Yeah, Steve is fun to read when he gets a full head of steam.

<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>But what was it Steve said, they like to take a lot of those bogus conventions (I'm not saying that OOB is one of them mind you!) and "throw them out the window as hard as they can."<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

How many times has Steve told us to 'Unlearn' what we learned from previous war games? I don't have enough fingers and toes to count.

<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>You already know that there will be no OOB in CM. Maybe something in CM2? (Only Steve's hairdrsser knows for sure.)<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I'd think after dealing with us for the past year Steve would have pulled his hair out in frustration.

<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>This reminds me of the dead body issue where dudes dragged that carcass around for months (much to my amusement among others) after the decision had already been (Secretly) made to include a dead figure. Cheers...<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

And, based on a cryptic comment by Moon at the beginning of December, the 'dead bodies' issue was resolved within a few weeks of the Beta release.

Yeah, and in the right situation women might find me attractive, but what are the odds? rolleyes.gif

The H-39 is like the Peugeot or that atrocious MG the French sold the Americans in WWI - a joke that apparently some people didn't get.

  4. I feel like I've gone back to last November when we had this discussion the first time. It's Deja Vu all over again!

    Let's see if I can find an official BTS response. {shuffle, shuffle, looks through reams of FAQ papers}

Ahh... These are the best of the bunch (and there are probably 15+ OOB threads) from after the beta demo release.

In the absence of an 'official' BTS response, these are likely the closest you'll get.

  5. I echo the above comments. One platoon of tanks 9or other armored vehicles) to one company of infantry. Preferably at least one the tanks has a powerful AT gun. I almost never buy vehicles if I can get away with it.

If you play Americans, a 76mm armed tank or TD is a must. You won't need to buy support weapons as a US infantry Coy already has the bazookas/MGs/mortars. British units need to purchase MGs and Germans need to purchase schrecks. The Americans and Brits have one bazooka/PIAT per platoon but given the cost of the schreck, I would go for 1 per 2 platoons.

Toss in a cheap FO (81mm or 3in). The power of these isn't high but the shells arrive quickly even for low quality and they are the best for smoke screens. I'd go for someting REALLY big as a complement if I had the points.

If I was on the defense, I'd take all infantry and go for as many on-board guns (AT and howitzers) and support weapons as possible. Weapons platoons and weapons companies are your friends. Reduced point cost for buying in formation as well as inherent HQs.

  6. I have not encountered the problem of QB PBEM opponents picking ridiculous weaponry.

Heck, I just finished a game where I had a Green US infantry company, a green US Heavy weapons company, and a 105mm howitzer. I think my men acquitted themselves nicely.

The best thing about the force was that it was under 1000 points! A pile of MGs and bazookas and a bunch of extra HQs. Unfortunately, the PBEM had to end prematurely, but it was still fun.

  7. I sent my charts off to Moon a week ago. He said he would put them up when he did another update. It's a good thing he didn't because v1.03 came out and I had to redo most of it. Vehicle prices went WAY up for vet+ and prices also increased for onboard guns (howitzers, mortars, AT guns, etc.) and for small man portable weaponse (light mortars, bazookas, etc.)

ANYONE who has a website can post these as long as I get attribution. Since Matt is gone, maybe I'll send them over to the other Jason at CMHQ.tzo/canada.

  8. In an attack, ammo can sometimes be more important than men - especially for squads. If you think you might get in close combat it is important that your men have as much ammo as possible to unload at close range.

If you plan on doing ambushes with low quality troops, make sure that their LOS is as limited as possible. Green troops have a tendency to blow ambushes even if the ambush marker is 5m in front of them!

If you have AT guns in an ambush spot, try to protect them from infantry attack with at least a MG or something. Something like a 57mm AT gun with poor HE performance has no hope against infantry.

Man portable AT weapons are similar to AT guns. These poor guys have no small arms so they are easily taken out. Use them in teams - while one is being shot at by the ambushed tank the other may actually get off a shot. Even better, use them in groups of four and five - nothing like launching 15-20 rockets in a turn! Tank crews get pissed when they bail and the nearest target is often the offending and defenseless AT team. A half squad or HQ does wonders against pesky crews!

Fionn, the reason I thought about moving laterally was that if you moved straight at the ambush you might only trigger a small portion of it. An enemy squad annhilates your half squad and then retreats quickly using the withdraw command.

I'd also like to say that even if a player isn't squeamish about his own casualties it is difficult to know when sustaining casualties for a larger goal is appropriate. I haven't quite figured out good timing for scouting or a final assault yet. I suffered from this in my current game of 'Ham & Jam' - I've done a good job keeping my Brits alive and then squandered two squads because I hadn't sufficiently suppressed the enemy. frown.gif

  9. CM has sold enough copies to make CM2. I got the above message in an e-mail from Steve after the first batch sold out. Maybe a second sell-out means enough sales to already justify a CM3 and CM4?

Congratulations BTS on the great success!!

    Jason

(You are never going to get an actual sales figure...)
