  1. You mean if you turn off HDR and Ambient occlusion you have graphical glitches? Is AA turned on in control panel?

    yes

turing off AA in the control panel fixed it

so there is some issue with the AA?

  2. Yeah but you will need a new power supply for a new video card for the special plugs they require for power. Most of them require 2 power connections

    My Gainward 7800GS++ (7900GT) does.

I used a 380w PSU on it for a while, using an adaptor to get the required plugs, but I could no longer overclock my system as high as I used to and then the socket that connects to the mainboard eventually melted :)

replaced the mainbaord with a 2nd hand unit from ebay and board a Corsair HX-620 600w PSU. Awesome power supply, and near silent. Gave me all the extra plugs and connections I needed along with a modular design so you can unhook any plugs you don't need

  3. Yep, you have to uncheck "ambient occlusion" and the ghosts are gone.

    it's off....

I get these giant filled out squares. I'm not the only, others have the same problem....

  4. fastest ATI AGP card is the 3850 HD. There are no Nvidia equalients speed wise

it's pretty cheap these days. And even with a P4 the speed difference is noticable.

It'll be like 5 times faster than your current card :)

  5. I just hold down the change camera/view key - whatever you have assigned it to, and then move the mouse

I recommned the interface mod, increase the numbers of lines/smaller fonts to get rid of the console feel - the usual Oblivion type mods :)

  6. My character - with and without hockey mask :)

P4 3ghz, 1 gig and 7900gt AGP with 512megs - video card is o/c to just under 7900GTX levels. Old system..... I put it together a year before HL2 came out

runs ok at medium setting, 1280x960, but I tweaked things and turned shadows off (doesn't make a lot of difference unlike other games) and actor distance to max, and it averages about 28 fps with 8xAnsio, no AA, and with HDR. in the busier outdoor areas. And can shoot up to 40-65 in other areas. No HDR+AA together with my gen of video card like Obvilion.

Actually runs similar to Oblivion, maybe a little better optimised

More ram is better though to get rid of the judders when it's caching

It didn't set me on fire at first, but it's growing on me like a tumour

A bit too grey for my tastes visually

I played through the start section once, saved that away and did few test runs through with different character builds, to get a feel for things and get rid of the noob errors, some with god mode on... press ~ and type "tgm" on a PC

now I'm doing it properly and slowly savouring each location properly.

Man it really feels like I am Legend movie :)

loving the sawn off shotty and hunters rifle

what I like is seeing, is trader caravan and other NPC traveling on their own in the land. I sometimes follow them as they move about slowly, and pick up the loot from the creatures/attackers they encounter and kill

or when I get attacked run away and lead the attackers into some of these other NPC and watch the fight :)

although it's not a common occurance as you'd expect

  7. Maxis has made some Spore prototypes available for download

Maxis made two new prototypes available. Instead of weird simulations, now they released the whole prototypes of the creature and space stages.

In SPUG, the player controls an avatar creature on a simple planetary terrain where they may hunt prey, evade predators, eat, rest and level up their stats.

In SPACE, the player explores a galaxy of stars with a spacecraft, discovering new worlds to terraform and colonize and encountering alien species to fight or befriend.

  8. Gamasutra has an interesting (and in-depth!) interview with Soren Johnson regarding Spore

Interview: Soren Johnson - Spore's Strategist

Designer and programmer Soren Johnson came to work at Maxis on Spore in late 2007, after more than 5 years working as a designer on the Civilization series at Firaxis. Most notably, he programmed the AI for Civilization III and then stepped up to lead designer and AI creator on the acclaimed Civilization IV - so adding him was a significant coup for Will Wright's Emeryville-based team.
