2. Oh I see how it is Moriarty. I let you finally win a game... and what do you do? You get the big head and decide to crawl out of the pool and post in the real world. If I would have known my loss would cost the rest of the forum so much. I would have pounded you like last years fruit cake. 3. by shatter:
quote:
Again I not trying to bash just cannot understand the need for hamsters.

I use it totaly for the humor. Personaly I view Combat mission more as a chess match than a war fought between cyber people. Much like a couple of my chess sets I could care less what the pieces look like, only that I know what they are. Hamsters / cats cats / dogs water / fire x's / o's makes no diffrence to me really. The Hamsters just allow me a grin and a smile now and again. For me that is enough for their use. 4. Oh Moon, Pulling a the heart strings of the long past days of merriment and the days before there were even rubble tiles, dead bodies and the like. But how could those that follow not know Fionn and his Fenians? "Patrick, enquire of God, Whether he recollects when the Fenians were alive; Or hath he seen East or West, Men their equal, in the time of fight. Or, hath he seen in his own country, Though high it be above our heads; In conflict, in battle, or in might, A man who was equal to Fionn." Sorry a wee bit of the Irish coming out. 5. LOL Moriarty, I know it wasn't our game. I had to make sure that one got back on track. If for no other reason than to win my little bet that I could infact lose! Now that I have indeed lost our little fracus I feel all the world is at peace now. 6. LOL, Have to say I am using Kitty's Hamster Mod too. Guess it takes a little insanity to justify its use... lucky for me I have that trait in spades. Lorak ------------------ "Do not wait to strike till the iron is hot; but make it hot by striking."--William Butler Yeats Cesspool
 7. Umm, Figured several people might read this thread so I'll post here also. First I hate people that just up and dissapear. Second, make sure you give someone the benifet of the doubt. I've left a couple people hanging twice now. Both were due to severe cases of real life intrusions. Car wreck, close friends passing. Just make sure you try to give some reason for your absense and try to pick up those games when you get back, Or at least offer the person your playing to continue or play a new game. That being said. I am back after almost 3 weeks with no way to play CM. I believe I have contacted and resumed playing all the games that were not finished. If I was playing you ( I usually have 12 or more games going) I might have lost your name or address over that time. Please just contact me or send me a file and I'll be happy to pick up where I left off. Thanks Lorak ------------------ "Do not wait to strike till the iron is hot; but make it hot by striking."--William Butler Yeats Cesspool
 8. Sadly I am only at 1100. Really shouldn't have spent so much time lurking and trying to learn things when I first showed up. Jumbo, A nice public service anouncment from the Pool. You can check your post by clicking the little person icon at the top of your post(or anyone elses) gives nice info such as E-mail addresses ect(profile link). If your bathroom habits are anything like your posting habits, it must be a great power indeed ! Considering how much crap you must be filling it with. Games...Games...Games...Oh where to begin? Moriarty... HaHa he said I couldn't do it. Oh yes it was a fine challenge too ! He boasted that there was no way in hell I could lose to him. But I did ! I am victorious in my loss ! Just waiting on the file to see how good/bad I really did. OGSF... Poor scot wannabe with a speech problem. Sadly the game has gone longer than he has the mental capacity to understand. I fear he is now as lost in the fog as his men. Germanboy...still in jail singing showtunes and making friends I imagine. Berli... The sad Gamey, cheating, goat hoofed one. Continues to throw tigers and heavy artillery at my amis cooks and clerks. Oh and did I mention How great I am today? Lorak the loathed omnipresent authority figure
 10. Berli...berl...ber... Have you still failed to understand the power you are dealing with in the LORAK ?! Don't you think it is odd that every time you try to slander me, a foot of snow falls on your home? Damn it I am king of the elves! Now if you keep this up I will be forced to grab my drum and perform another pagan dance. Now I can keep this up all winter.... and if you aren't careful you may literaly find your living hell froze over. You filthy sasenach twit. 11. Actualy Commissar the allied tanks were every bit as good if not better than the german tanks during the blitz. The problem is they were still using WWI doctrine and were caught totally unawears by the way the Germans used their armor. 12. I have to agree with Elvis here. Nothing will improve your game like playing against someone much better than yourself. I was luckly enough to play Fionn when the Gold beta came out. Even managed to beat him (** Note: I was the americans in VoT, so the victory is very hollow. On an even map there is no doubt he would beat me like the red-headed child I am.**) But in playing him, even in this lopsided scenario I learned a lot about ambushes, reverse slope defenses ect... For the chance at playing those better than myself... I'll take losing and learning over a win any day. This works really well if you work with the person up front and tell them you are looking for advice on game improvment. Just be man enough( when you get your butt kicked) to accept the advice that is given and learn to use it. Too many people take criticism of their playing style very badly. 13. by THumpre:
quote:
What is an time tested 'Pool approved method for getting FO's forward enough to call in effective fire? Mine always seem to be in the wrong place, ie. too far back to see what needs the gentle ministations of my arty.

That really is a matter of player choice. When on defense I usually try to determain what the enemies main line of advance will be and place my spotters with LOS to that area. Also don't forget the value of markers. If your pretty sure of the line of advance place your FO where they can cover the most ground and fill in the small areas out of LOS with targeting markers. (like the middle of that big patch of woods your sure they will use as cover). When on the attack or during a ME, it is a little more difficult. Treat them much like you would a flame thrower team. scout the terrain and find a good place for them to post up and support your attack. move them forward (usually one turn behind your force) until your attack force is in position and has cleared out the FO's area of operation. When getting FO's into position it is better to be a little slow than to be spotted. I usually use sneak and crawl until he has posted up. 14. Joe Slaw , you weeping sore on the arse of humanity. Of course I recorded your draw against Germanboy. (I think). Considering that I wouldn't even spare the time to spit on you if your head was on fire. You should be grateful that one as great as I even notices you at all. Now go away, your drooling on my boots. Now for my games in progress: Berli... The gamey bastard bought tigers and 210mm artillery. Enough said. OGSF... Is showing me that they did indeed give idiots guns in Germany. "actung! there is two of us, and only a platoon of amis ! Lets charge them !" In a game I should have lost long ago, the tide has turned in my favor. Maybe not enough soon enough. But right now if his troops were shooting themselves, I couldn't do any better. Moriarty... In a game he bosted I could not lose. I have once again proved him wrong. There is only one turn to go and I have planned my own topplement so well.... that even Moriarty can't screw it up. Germanboy...recieved the "sound of music" for christmas and was later arrested for singing show tunes on street corners. Should be released sometime next week. As for the rest of you sodding gits. You may continue to bask in the light and wonder that is I Lorak. Lorak the loathed
 15. by Bryan:
quote:
What exactly does "move to contact" mean?

This is an order for your men to perform some action (such as sneak) until they make contact with an enemy unit. After they make contact they will perform another action. examples: sneak forward until you spot the enemy and then hide. This has been ask for, but according to BTS will not become reality until the new CM engine is written. 16. from the Commissar
quote:
1. Is this daring (some say insane or even suicidal ((to one's mind))) feat impossible now-a-days? Hath the CessPool been filled to its slimy limits? The pool is an empty vessel. It is used but never filled. The pool is the infinite ancestor of the ten thousand things. Invisible but always present. I do not know from whence it comes. It might appear to have always been here. 2. I hear you have to insult pretty darn well to get one of the Cessers' to accept your challenge. Is calling the lot of you "scum-sucking scum who marry your cousins" eligible to get a nod of approval? If one person gets there with one try, try ten times. If another succeeds with a hundred tries, make a thousand. Proceeding in this manner, even one who is a bit slow will find the cess; even a weak one will find the pool. 3. Do I really need to purchase a good thesaurus (and a good dictionary so I can finally spell thesaurus correctly) to correctly participate in the Pool? The wise man seeks everything in himself; the ignorant man tries to get everything from somebody else.

Lorak ------------------ "Do not wait to strike till the iron is hot; but make it hot by striking."--William Butler Yeats Cesspool
 17. Bryan, Welcome to the glory that is combat mission. I myself live in North Carolina. It took 3 days if I remember correctly for me to get my copy. Remember that we are dealing with the postal service so I say 3-7 days to Ga. 19. by the Commissar
quote:
1. What is the chemical composition of the so-called "Cess" in the dreaded pool? Carbon dioxide, since the cess is off the dwellers own making. Basically verbal taunts at other dwellers. Hot air, CO2 2. Why does BTS not implement a patch where in addition to the regular vehicles and troops we can buy for our QB's, we can also purchase special characters with names and abilities originating from the Peng thread? Well, since the dwellers of the pool started the whole hamster craze. By using "kitty's" hamster mod, you will get what you ask for. 3. I am the unluckiest person alive during a QB. I've tried sacrifising lambs and wearing rabbit feet but to no avail! What now? Umm, hard question. It may be that there really is no hope for you. You might try selling your soul to Berli. Couldn't hurt.

by Pillar
quote:
Where do you find REALLY good opponents? There are some really fine players that dwell in the pool, but actually taunting them efectivly enough to recieve a game is becoming difficult.

Now up untill now all the questions here have bordered on the insane. I hope people settle down and allow this thread to become what we intended. A place for people to ask serious game related questions and recieve serious game related answers. 20. Babra, As much as I would like to add your topplement to the peng tomb. I am afraid I can not. You see games are only posted among those who actualy dwell in the pool. Pillar coming in here and trying to dazzle us with his ear wax collection does not make him a dweller. How can we possible even view him as possible pool material? There is nothing vile in his post. He has made no rude comments on playing style, heritage, or any other trait. He has in fact shown himself on the board proper as having grog like tendencies. Nay, Pillar may in time decide to carve out a little wading area in the pool... But until he can taunt and sound off like he has a pair... I am afraid there is nothing I can do. Lorak the loathed
 21. Bah! You are all fools and idiots ! Do you not realize that a constant war has and will always be declaired against our Lady the pool ! Already the curse is upon our pool, and stangers her waters profane; They come to divide- to dishonor, and these trolls they long will remain. But onward! - the pool banner rearing, Go fleash every sword to the hilt; On our side is Virtue and Might, on theirs is grogs and guilt. Lorak the loathed
 22. lets see...scribe duties first. OGSF-win bastables-loss Shandorf-win Seanachai-loss Mark IV-draw Hiram-draw Now for you unenlighted toads, more verse from the Lorak. The serpent's curse upon you lies-ye writhe withen the dust, Ye fill your mouths with beggers' swill, ye grovel for a crust; Your lords have set thier blood-stained heels upon your shamful heads, Yet they are kind-they leave you still thier ditches for your beds! Now are you men, or are you kine, ye dwellers of the pool? Would you be free, or evermore roll in puetrid soil? The shadow on the dial hangs that points the fatal hour, Now hold your own! or useless gits, for ever cringe and cower. I am the Lorak who teaches all- the seignior and the serf- I have risen up this day, defending the pool, the place of my re-birth; Now follow me and plant your feet, where now you crawl as slaves, And make this pool a better place, or make of it your grave ! 23. Ummm, religion in the cesspool... this in itself is not upsetting. What is upsetting is the multitude that have falling away from my teachings. I do not care to be your religion, I only care to teach you the path to my greatness. Now... until I can get to work and wax poetic, here is a simple lesson in Lorak's greatness. Effortless Effort The mind of a perfect man is like a mirror. It grasps nothing. It expects nothing. It reflects but does not hold. Therefore, the perfect man can act without effort. 24. Umm, I think most people have summed up thier thoughts on win/loss records pretty well. I agree that I pay more attention when my games are against people I think are decient players. Some I've played have been a walk, not sure due to skill levels or just luck. but those I tend to forget pretty easily. One reason I kind of regulate myself to playing people in the cesspool. My record there is running 2/2 and most thier seem to be at a good skill level.(will most likely lose 3 of the 4 going now ) But if your not losing... your not learning. I guess I would rate myself average at best. I've played some good people like Fionn and others, and I've even managed to win some games against some good players. But even in winning I can tell when someone is a hell of a lot better than I. So the win gets dulled a little with that knowledge. Damn I ramble a lot. I guess what it comes down to is not so much your win/loss record. But your skill level and how you fair against others as good or better than yourself.
