  1. I am 35, married for 13 years with 4 beautiful kids. Started war gaming on the Apple II and have bought WAY too much of that stuff to have any retirement savings. I work as an IT consultant and live in the Colorado mountains. Mike
  2. Danno, I am in Colorado. Could usually start play at about 8:30PM or so, after the kiddies are off to bed. Mike
  3. I am a CPA turned VB/SQL 7 consultant for the financial services industry by day, and father and dad to 4 great kids at night. Been playing computer games since they came in little baggies for the Apple IIc, and have always longed for something like CM. Mike
  4. The right side valley is the way I went. I lost a platoon on the left, but when the reinforcements showed up I put them on the left center ridge. They took out the pillboxes, then immideatly retreated when the Panther shows. Lost 2 Shermans but got the others in the right valley. Captured the ville and the pushed up the final hill on the right. I held 2 Shermans just underneath the crest in an overlaping fire field, and guess what, the Panther walks right into the trap. It was killed on about the 5th shot from the Shermans. After that the Axis surrender and I had a nice victory. I must say that this game is what I have always hoped for; incredible job BTS. I am really feeling for the guys out there on the field getting chewed up and trying to defend a position just one more minute. And I also really like the Arty, it is loud and effective. Again, great job BTS, let us know how we can help your marketing effort so you guys have bucko bucks for CM2. Mike
  5. Just an update on my own message: When I manually extract it with PKZIP things are just fine, running the self-extract doesn't work for me. Mike
  6. OK, am I too stupid or what? I run the executable and live the path set to c:\ and I get 688 warnings that the file can't be extracted. BTW, am running W2K. Help please. Mike
  7. Thanks guys, get some sleep, or beer, or both! I should have it downloaded by morning on the old 28.8. Telephony infrastructure bites in the mountains, and DirecPC doesn't have a W2K driver, so back to the 2k download it is. Mike
  8. Denver and the Rocky Mountain West would enjoy a demo session. And the skiing is GRRREAT this time of year. Pitkiller
  9. Philp Morris might like the old Rauchen groups (they are GREAT for sales), but in reality the word you are looking for is "Rotten" not "Rauchen". A "Rotte" in german would be a group, while "Rauchen" has been adequately explained. Mike
  10. Sounds like an easy way to a great rank with no risk. Sorry fellas, very boring! Mike
  11. I want to try PBEM: PBEM Experience: None Location: Colorado, USA CM Experience: ~12 Games vs AI Frequency: 1 Turn/ Day Average E-Mail: mkjhartmann@yahoo.com This could be fun. I payed on game of CC3 online and I still remember it!
  12. Matt, I speak fluent German, born over there, and am a professional software development project manager. I do a lot of DB stuff for businesses, mostly SQL 7 and Access, plain vanilla but profitable technologies. I am ready to do some of this. BTW, CM is great in sofar as I have not bought another game since I downloaded the Demo. Nothing, but nothing even comes close to the quality and exitement of that product. Mike
  13. My prayers are with you and your loved one. Forget the game; it's just entertainment the other stuff is life! Mike
  14. Thanks for the update Steve. I assume the engine has changed so much since the beta demo that the release of one additional scenario, to make the time go by quicker, would be impossible? Just asking and waiting. Mike
  15. Remember art is never done!!! CM is approaching art status. Just my feelings on day after I HAD to ship software. Sometimes it just has to be done, no ifs or buts. Ducking now. Mike
  16. Those files are the "hack" or unauthorized, unsupported build of Anthony Toste. I have used them before with limited success. Still waiting for the official 3Dfx drivers. Just thought you would like to know. Mike
  17. I am using Win2000 with Voodoo3. Everything works fine now, after finding the right frequency for the monitor, until replacements arrive. Then the CM demo freezes up most, but not all, the time. I am hoping that this bug will be fixed prior to release. I have reported it, but never heard any acknowledgement back; yes I know they are busy finishing the game. Mike
  18. Look like the gremmilins have been vanquished and the board is back up. Of course the old messages seem to have disappeared in the cyber bucket. Good to have my daily fix up and running again fellows! Mike
  19. As previously lamented on this forum I am running W2000 and Voodoo3. All seemed to be working fine after adjusting the monitor refresh rate; but then it hit. Whenever the box "You have reinforcements" shows up the CM locks up the computer. Then and only the, everything else works fine. Has anyone else had this happen, and is this a bug BTS should know about, or should I assume it has already been reported by a beta-tester. It really bites playing Last Defense and having the game freeze just as the tank killers show up!!! Mike
  20. I was using Win95, but got into developing certain applications, web based, that required either NT or Win2000. So, since I got a free copy of Win2000, I installed it. I actually use this computer for things other than playing games, and for that Win2000 works great. Much faster and more stable than either product in the W9x series. Mike
  21. Thanks for everyone that tried to help me with my non-working system. I finally got some time to fiddle with the system, and once I set the monitor back to 640x480 under windows CM came up just fine and is now actually running in what appears to be Glide. Thanks again; I feel like is Christmas already again! Mike
  22. Mat, I know you put a ton of effort into keeping us all updated. Thank you!!! I haven't looked foreward to a game like this since I saw my first Steel Panthers ad, so I guess I can keep waiting. You know they say that the anticipation is often the most fun. Just don't keep us anticipating too long <BG>. Mike
  23. Thanks for all the input guys. I am pretty sure that it is a specific problem with the 3dfx driver. I am NEVER going to buy another 3df product. I had a Voodoo1, that one worked, but was slow. Then with Voodoo 2 my first card had a defective on board processor which was replaced after about 2 weeks, and then the texture on all dark surfaces had spots like a pink clown. And to round it out now we have the little issue that virtually nothing (except Unreal Tournament) runs under W2K and Voodoo3. 3dfx stock looks like a good short sale to me. Their board is just full of flame. Guess I'll get a different card just so I can play again. Any ideas anyone? Thanks.
  24. I recently installed RC2 of W2K and the same day made the mistake of putting in a Voodoo 3 2000 board. Now my demo of CM won't start, just a black screen. I realize the errors of my way, endangering CM for the benefit of earning cash compensation, but if anyone has any ideas PLEASE help me. I love this thing!!! Thanks in advance. BTW this is a PII/400 with 192 Meg memory. Mike
