  1. Perchpole,

    Wellcome to the game.

The info given to you is very much depending on A) the spotted units behaviour, B) weather and time of day, and C) the quality of the unit spotting the enemy.

The drawback of "too much info" still exists, but as you get to play the full game more, I'm sure that you'll see this as less and less of a problem.

As for the realism of dedicating large portion of your forces hunting down spotters, this is very realistic (IF you have the crucial information of their mere existence AND their general whereabouts smile.gif). FOs were (and, to a lesser degree, are) considered VERY high priority targets.

The trick is to learn to read the terrain well enough to deny the enemy any spotting opportunities and to behave in a manner that allows your FOs to spot the target without being spotted themselves. This is quite hard, but certainly doable.

Also, remember that in the demo you have the ENORMOUS advantage of knowing what forces are at the enemies disposal, since you have played the same scenario before. This will not be so in almost any of the games you will play once you get the full game. Would you behave in the same way as you are now if you didn't know the enemy has a FO?

    Best regards,

    Sten

  2. Do you think CM is the best thing since sliced bread?

Did you know that GamesDomain is running this "Game of the year" poll?

    Did you forget to vote?

For those who now have three yes's, Shame on you!

CM missed the third place, which is required for advancement from the initial poll to the final cup, by only 25 votes. mad.gif

I'll go sulk in a corner now.

Maybe I'll even sink so low as to swing by the cesspool.

  3. Lordfluffers,

The AI will never surpass the level of a decent human. Once you pass that level youself, your only options are to either give the AI some advantage or to play humans.

The next time you pose a question, please avoid ANY information that might give something away to a player that has not played that specific scenario. The surprise element in "The las reich" scenario is pretty much wasted after reading your initial post.

  4. TCP/IP is a the protocol(=~language) used between computers on the internet.

Right now you can only play another human either by either:

    A. being at the same computer, alternating between turns, know as hotseat.

    B. sending the save-game back and forth via e-mail, known as PBEM.

Once the patch is released, you'll be able to play against another human without any of the above hassles. You sit in front of your computer and your opponent in front of his. There's very little delay, since he is thinking about his orders at the same time as you are.

Your modem will surely let you play this without any problems. Keep your fingers crossed, though. It's still WWW. (WWW=Whole World Waiting) smile.gif

  5. I fully agree on JA2 being better in the beginning-middle than the end. That's why I only give it a 9 out of 10 (Well more like 9 out of 9.5, since 10 is reserved for CM)

I'll buy three or four games during the next 7-8 months.

    JA2:UB

    Arcanum

    Fallout:Tactics

    Pool of Radiance (maybe)

  6. Solution D is a step away from realism. In RL, tanks often found themselves out of a particular type of ammo.

Frustrating, yes very. smile.gif But also the most realistic solution is to leave it as it is.

The problem is nonexistant in designed scenarios, unless the designer wants it to be a problem. In a QB you don't know what you're up against (ideally).

  7. Henri,

I just read the MW thread. Steve and Blackhorse (among others) countered your arguments in a constructive manner. You were not attacked and despite their efforts to answer your questions, you didn't repay them in kind.

If you decide to read this thread, please take the time to reread the MW topic. I'm sure you'll see that no foul was comitted.
