  1. Served 1.5 years in the Swedish Navy as a Tactical Coordinator / Signal Analyst, i. e. I plotted mine-lines, coordinated air & sea forces and listened to radars (much like a sonar-operator). Currently in the Naval reserve as a doctor, specialising in hyperbaric medicine. Sten
  2. I think the 'Recon'-command is a good idea. It could work just like the 'Hunt'-command but with a greater tendency to get away rather than open fire and a slight bonus to spotting (by sight OR sound). Such a command would probably quickly be adopted by all players as the preferred means by which to spearhead an attack. Not to mention that it would be a step up in realism. Increasing the quality of a given troop might be a way around all this, but it seems a bit 'gamey' since in real life much scouting is done by non-specialist troops. Being a scout is more a matter of attitude and behaviour than pure quality. Sten [This message has been edited by Sten (edited 09-14-99).]
  3. "Pain is only weakness leaving your body." Innumerous Drill Sgnts. Sten
  4. I'd like an option to get a really small compass in one of the top corners, to help orientation while moving the camera around. Sten
  5. Fionn, stop sweating. You're doing a terrific job with the AARs as is. Thomm and Mike D are right. What I asked for was for CM to give the statistics at the end of the battle. But after reading this thread I realize that it would be very handy to have the overview/stats-screen available in-game. It needn't be fancy or with unit names linked to the location of the unit or anything, just a simple screen with all the units and a few columns of the most vital statistics. CM already keeps track of all these so I can't imagine that it would take any time at all to put in, but hey, what do I know? CM rules, big time! (I hope that at least drew some groans. ) Sten
  6. Fionn. I really didn't want to be this blunt, but here goes: I'm looking for the 'Soldiers' screen in CC3. Do you see why I was reluctant to write it clearly from the begining? By saying that I not only admit that I'm playing a game most grognards hate but also that I'm kind of keen on the least grognardy feature of all. A simple 'killed'-table would do, ...........................Tanks....Soldiers.....Status Squad Lt. King...........0.............4.......-3 men Sherman75 Jones......2.............6.........K.O. HMG Sgt. Smith.........0............12......Full strength Bazooka Team1........1.............1.......-2 men See what I mean? 7. Are After Action Reports TOTALLY out of it? Maybe I'm not grognard-ish enough but I really enjoy reading about "squad Lieutnant Student" getting x or y kills. In my minds eye I then see where they were located in the battle and it will help me spot my mistakes. It would also help answering the "Huh?!? What did that unit get hit by??" questions.
  8. Moon, what I meant was that no matter how hig the ambitions of BF.C might be there is probably nothing (except hard sales figures ) that will make the game companies look and listen as hard as a good buzz in the newsgroups and magazines. We can contribute in some small way by at least making some people ask themselves "What does 'CM' in all these headers stand for?" The public has a LOT of influence. Why else would all these deer-hunting sims crop up? Moon says: It's the game publishers that have something to learn here. If THEY realize that BF.C is a new, better and functioning concept, only then - I think - will we see a revolution in the industry. Learning = Seeing a potential moneymaker, right? Huge (in wargame terms) public = Potential moneymaker, right? Even if this crude reasoning isn't the whole truth, it's pretty close. By giving CM our best shot at making it publically known we help getting a possible revolution started. It can't hurt, can it? Sten
  9. To ensure that CM gets the sales figures and public (the PUBLIC, not other game-companies) attention it deserves, we, the die-hard fans, have some work to do. We need to discuss this game in as many places as possible. With special regard to newsgroups. If I hadn't found this forum, I could have lived my whole life without ever hearing or seeing CM. I sure as h*ll wouldn't see it in my gamestore . I found this forum through GamesDomains strategy section and their Target Range feature for upcoming games. It'll probably feel strange, but to promote the game we need to pose the questions that inevitably will arise not here (where the good answers are) but on comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic. The morons will be there, with the flamers, trollers and general suckers. But the game will get the publicity it needs to have even a theoretical chance of revolutionizing anything. Sten
  10. (*slowly morphing to Al Bundy*) - Huh, Fionn, wadda you mean, fun? Fun like CM? Fun like beer 'n bowlin'? (*one hand slipping into pants, the other homing in on the remote control*) - Naaah, THIS is fun! (*flipping between "Psycho Dad" and Discoverys umpteenth "Carriers at War" series*) I'd better buy flowers on my way home... Sten
  11. You can have my firstborn as well in exchange for a good AI. Just think about it, you could probably start two or three kindergartens with all the kids you could acquire this way. How's that for an alternative career? And all the kids will have shadows, lifelike sounds, fantastic UI, 'learning' AI (weak at first, but with proper training...) and, last but not least, you wouldn't have to go about the tiresome business of producing them yourself! Sten
  12. I'm Congestion, as yet not connected to any regiment. Sten
  13. Under what name and in what regiment? Sten
  14. Did you hear that the release of Windows 2000 has been delayed? The new release date is mid-may 1900. Sorry! Sten
  15. Well, according to Talonsoft (Re: Talonsoft vs. Fionn) you should also take the "Rate of Spitting" into account. Enough of those umbrellas would actually have the same armorvalue as the front turret on a PzII. Sten
  16. OOOHHHMMM, OOOHHHMMM OOOHHHMMM, OOOHHHMMM OOOHHHMMM, OOOHHHMMM OOOHHHMMM, OOOHHHMMM May the force be with you! Sten
  17. All you grognards out there know this, of course. I wellcome you to point your collective finger at me, to laugh and scorn at my ignorance. Could someone please provide me with an easy overviewable table of the sizes of different units? A german platoon was XXX men, an American brigade was YYY men, a Finnish army was ZZZ men and so forth. I should of course know all this, but, alas, I don't. Please point me in the right direction. Thanks Sten
  18. I don't get it either. But I'm not that bright. Sten
  19. I really like the bidding idea. I know you are under a lot of pressure AND have umpteen other things to finish, but please consider it. It would be THE way to balance scenarios and the perfect way to conduct tournaments. Sten [This message has been edited by Sten (edited 05-11-99).]
  20. Is it just me being an oaf as usual, or does everybody else have a problem with the 'New topics since last vist'-marker? Problem is that I don't get any. Also, the forum doesn't remember my login and password anymore. I guess I'm just a lamer, huh? Sten
  21. CRourke, CM will be sold from battlefront ONLY. No storshelves, no merchandising, no bribing suits for shelfspace, this is it. But the message "not sold anywhere else" has been used so often by people who didn't mean it that when someone finally MEANS it, we have a hard time believing it. Read the manifesto and you'll see why BTS really *MEANS* it. Sten [This message has been edited by Sten (edited 05-06-99).] [This message has been edited by Sten (edited 05-06-99).]
  22. Can you give us some idea of how good the strategical AI will be? I'm a (little) bit worried since you say you haven't started work on that yet. (Oh, you did notice that I'm trying to 'troll' an answer from you... ) Sten
  23. CRourke, wouldn't it be a better simulation of 'orders from above' if you got a VL assigned to you? But it would be boring to have the same one every time. That way the feature would be moot the second time you play a specific scenario as the defender. Sten
  24. BTS, how about the probabilities I suggested earlier? It would do wonders for replayability. Sten
  25. As usual BTS was waaay ahead of me. The delay incurred on units for changing orders solves (in part) the problem with 'über plan'. I should have figured that one out myself. Good example. Thanks Sten
