1. But Sneak can be a little... odd. I had a squad Sneak in the CE woods toward von Seanachai's MG42. They snuck... up to him, over the top of him, paused for a few, and on into the woods. Both units were firing the whole time. The MG lost some guys, I lost some guys, and snuck on. The HQ was sneaking along behind them, snuck up to 3m from the muzzle of the same blazing MG42, and remained there for awhile until, riddled with virtual 7.92, he flopped over backwards. So be careful with Sneak!
2. My only concern is that influential, high-visibility sites on the net will decide that it is easier to shun CM, than to deal with an impassioned mob. Silence is deadly, when word-of-mouth is your main strategy. Internet-only sales means CM needs all the e-press it can get. We are its ambassadors.
3. I only vote ONCE in these polls. I hope EVERYONE votes ONCE in these polls. CM is going to get a very bad reputation if the loyal followers are too aggressive. After the pointless and stupid SP and CC public relations debacles, we will find this game persona non grata* in its internet home if we now go around stacking polls, and generally behaving like brownshirts. *anthropomorphic license.
4. 43.2% and way ahead of the competition, with 333 votes in. Say, that European Wars thing they're plugging on that page looks pretty cool. Anybody try it or know much about it?
5. Molson Golden Sing Ha Heineken (getting really tired of it, though) and did I mention... Johnny Walker Black?
6. I ordered late Nov., early Dec., can't remember which. Card charged 15th, parcel shipped the 20th, received on the 24th. Unfortunately I was out of town so didn't see it until about midnight last night. Fired it up this AM before work, installed patch, and opened the tutorial scenario just to make sure it all worked (it did) before leaving for work (late again). Most of us probably owe the US Postal Service some apology, since they seem to have kept up their end of the bargain. I have tried to be cool about this whole thing, so my virtual lip is nearly bitten in twain. But the fulfillment deal was not too impressive. As some have noted. The shipping glitch is pretty minor in the grand scheme, and that's what I told myself before it arrived. It failed to comfort me. The only lesson I can offer those of you still waiting is that: YOU WILL NEVER BE HAPPY UNTIL IT GETS THERE. There is nothing I can say, or that you can do, to alleviate this, except to drink heavily*. The whole thing will eat at your soul and suck the music from your heart. My sincerest condolences to all my former companions in this and related threads. *Please drink responsibly- never post while drinking!
7. For diversity of weapons systems, units and tactics, there is only one choice for a real gamer: the Carthaginians. Otherwise I like the Germans but I'll feed any nationality into the inferno with equal gusto. I am eager to try Italians, Russians, and Finns (finally saw "The Winter War", one of the best war movies I've ever seen). I agree with the chess piece analogy (prefer White).
8. It sounds like the thing to do, then. Thank you all for the input. I'm sure if anyone was having major problems we'd be hearing about it.
9. Just curious. With CMHQ and CCJ cranking out tweaked textures, I wonder how many are using the original game graphics, versus the aftermarket mods. I still haven't seen the released graphics (finally delivered, but unavailable til tonight) but I'm sure they're good. I imagine that when you PBEM, each guy sees the movie with his own graphics files loaded. This causing any problems?
10. Let me know, snagdad. If it survives mama-san's tender mercies (she would rather find a tarantula in the mail box than "damn wargamez") we can hot-seat one.
11. GF reports delivery today, but I am 2700 miles away. Hope she doesn't wait up for me tomorrow night... I think I sold 2 more copies here, today. Sight unseen!
12. CM finally arrived in Fresno 6/25 (good news). I am in Detroit (bad news). GF alone with the CD for 36 hours: terror.
13. Mmmm, just saw this thread. There is so much Truth here (keep in mind that I still don't have the actual game). Greasy Pig and Peng speak for the voiceless masses. How 'bout that final cannon shot when you exit the game- Evil, or what? She just got done screaming about the time you've wasted and the thing(s) that need doing... you've just finished wiping the saliva from the back of your head, and in a massive show of conciliation you save and exit... and as She is walking way, BOOM that one last cannon shot, which convinces her that you've continued out of sheer spite (this assuming that you were busted in flagrante delicto with the audio on). Am I the only one this has ever happened to?
14. This forum is to "Discuss CM in general ways not covered by the other CM Forums. Please be careful to not post scenario specific information here" The Scenario Talk forum might have been a better place for this discussion. Have pity on the multitudes across the planet who do not yet have the game.
15. Mission-less in Milwaukee tonight. But I went to a nice restaurant and spied Glenmorangie and Scapa (never heard of the latter before this thread) on the shelf. Well, the Glenmorangie was very nice, not exactly my cup of tea, but I'd have another any day. I just like a peatier, smokier bite. I know I tried it before but couldn't recall it. Scapa disappointed me. Smooth, but easy to be smooth when you're flavorless. Something is missing there. Wouldn't do it again, but my horizons are broader for having tried it. I did see a military museum/junkyard, not sure which, by the freeway on the way up from Chicago. Hard to miss an M4 parked along an expressway. I have insisted, to the dismay of my business traveling colleagues, that we stop there on the way back. Anybody know this place? Worth the stop?
16.
quote:
Originally posted by jackhammer: everybody who preordered in 1999 should have got their game shipped by priority mail and everybody who ordered this year should have went out regular mail. what the heck was the point of preordering so early ...

Well, what you're arguing is not that we should have gotten ours any faster, but that others should have gotten theirs more slowly. That really doesn't make sense to me, since they paid the same. Pre-ordering didn't do me any good in terms of delivery, and it's frustrating to have a guy in the same town who ordered 3 weeks ago get it and not me. But I wouldn't feel any better knowing that HE didn't get one. Another day or two wouldn't be so bad after all this, if I wasn't leaving town early tomorrow and I live in an apartment with a little mail box and the manager's office here won't accept packages anymore and I won't be back until Sunday night and... (weird drumming)"... they're coming to take me away, ha-ha, they're coming to take me away, to the funny farm, where life is...".
17. Fresno, nothing. Well, I got a Have You Seen Me? card. I crushed the little faces into pulp and threw them in the dumpster. Hello, snagdad, and best of luck. I'll be back in a week and if it's still not here, maybe I could buy a case and a bottle and hot seat with you for a while. Bloody, bloody damn.
18.
quote:
Originally posted by SF: Come over an I'll let you see my copy thru the window. hehehe

Errr... I'll let you know about 5:30. You might wanna get some Windex just in case.
19. Any more left coast action today? Freaking in Fresno.
20. I can't let this thread die... it's all I have now. I've been hanging at http://www.laphroaig.com among others and it's much better than your average shill site. Linked over there from Gromit's post and thank you for that. Interested parties, do pay a visit. Link's fixed now, too. [This message has been edited by Mark IV (edited 06-20-2000).]
