  1. Steve, I have a Voodoo 2 video card. Do you foresee any problems with CM? Thanks. Larry
  2. Steve, if this thread is not enough evidence for you, I don't know what will be......you got to help us. I don't know how much longer we can hold out.......We need the demo........please. "The horror, the horror"---Marlon Brando, Apocylpse Now "Those aren't pillows!"---Planes, Trains and Automobiles Larry
  3. Pix, I was a season ticket holder for the Whale during the 85-86 season when I was at Trinity College. After law school (don't hold that against me), I was a season ticket holder from 1991 until they left. I have actually played on the Civic Center ice twice. What a sauna. I had season tickets to the AHL team in Hartford for the first two seasons, but it isn't the same. I am jealous. You always move to a place with an NHL team. By the way, you are right the Trade killed the franchise. I worked at State House Square for about 6 years, and now I work for a firm across from Batterson Park in Farmington. My wife and I like it here. It isn't bad. I heard that Pittsburgh is a great place to live. Larry
  4. Pixman, what the hell were you doing in Hartford, CT for 4 years? I used to work in Hartford. I now work in Farmington and live in South Windsor. How about those former Hartford Whalers. Larry
  5. Steeve, I wood allso lyke to voluunteeer my serveceez as a mannuall proofreeder. Seriously, Steve my job involves much proofreading (tax lawyer--ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz) and if you need some assistance I would be glad to help. I proofread the CC3 manual. I was not responsible for the content however. Larry
  6. Fionn, you have shown how vulnerable armor can be without infantry support with the use of hand-held AT weapons. It is probable that their is no Allied tank in CM (forget Pershing) that a Panzerfaust or Panzerschreck cannot take out within their respective ranges. However, it will be interesting to see how effective bazookas and Piats are against Panthers and Tigers. Larry
  7. Sgt Rock, I had asked the same question and Steve said that there would be the capability to make an Arnhem scenario. Bridges will be included. Larry
  8. Steve, during playback can the players see or only hear aircraft? Also, can AA have any effect on aircraft? Thanks. Larry
  9. Fionn, maybe this will cheer you up a little..... Pick one from column A and one from Column B: Column A--Railway Gun, Company of SS PZGrdrs Column B--4 King Tigers, one V-2 Rocket Think on the bright side. At least you weren't sitting inside that Panther. On a more serious note, what is the effective range of the long 75 on your PzIV, and does your infantry have any panzerfauts or panzerschreks? If so, about how many? I see that low ammo was going to be a factor for your Panther if it survived. Will low ammo be a factor with any of your infantry? Thanks. 10. Steve, can a split squad be recombined? If so, can this process be done at will? Thanks. Larry
  11. Moon, this would be a perfect situation to blow the bridge since the ice can't support the German armor or halftracks. Obviously, you can't blow it up by demolition, but can you destroy it with Artillery fire or tank fire? If not, I wonder if your Sherman can make it to the bridge. It would make a nice road block after it was brewed up. Might buy you some time. Larry
  12. Steve, can a split squad be reformed at any time? Thanks. Larry
  13. Dar, get CC2. I think it is much better than CC3. I was a beta tester for CC3 and although I like some of the new features in the game, CC2 provides a more coherent representation of combat. With CC2 you fight battles or operations that give you a feeling of influencing the big picture. The Grand Campaign in CC2 is great. Trying to decide who gets supply is very difficult. In CC3, there is no feeling of cohesion. You are simply taking men from one disjointed battle to another. That is my opinion. Larry
  14. Steve, looking at the pictures that Fionn and Moon have posted we see much damage to the ground and buildings from fire. Will vehicles also show damage from hits? Thanks. Larry
  15. Kwazy, you took the words right out of mouth. I had asked a couple of months ago about whether the Arnhem Bridge will be represented. It appears it will. I had some interesting battles in Arnhem with CC2. I think CM will be even better. I am also looking forward to Bulge scenarios and something at the Pegasus Bridge. Larry
  16. Moon, thankfully no one slipped and told Fionn about the M1 Abrams bug that they are still trying to eradicate from the beta you are playing. On a more serious note, I want to thank you guys for taking the time to draft the AAR reports. They are immersive and really are giving me a good flavor for the game. I can't wait to read about the next turn. Keep up the good work. Larry
  17. Steve, is there a Command and Control penalty for a squad that attaches itself to a different Platoon HQ(not its own)? Also, will bridge demolition and repair be possible in the final game? Too bad Moon can't blow the bridge. Thanks. Larry
  18. Steve, thanks for the info on the trees. Since every round is tracked in CM, will the trees offer some sort of cover(irrespective of the density you choose)that is factored into hit calculations? On repairs, after this scenario is done if Fionn's Panther survives it is going to need a new transmission. Larry [This message has been edited by Larry Marks (edited 08-25-99).]
  19. Steve, in his summary of Turn 4 Fionn mentioned that a player can control tree density in a scenario. Will this have an effect on the cover available for your forces? It seems that it would. Also, can vehicles have mechanical failure or run out of fuel? I ask because I think Fionn is grinding the gears on the Panther. Thanks Larry
  20. Steve, is it possible for Moon and Fionn to track ammunition for their individual units as in the Close Combat series? Thanks. Larry
  21. I was hoping that the box cover to CM would be a picture of Charles and Steve. I am very disappointed. Larry
  22. Simon, I agree with you. I think Arnhem failed for several reasons. First, the British ignored intelligence reports from the Dutch Underground that there were tanks in the vicinity of Arnhem. Second, General Urquhart picked landing zones 8 miles from the Bridge. Also, Major Howard's Oxs and Bucks Light Company that siezed the Pegusas Bridge was unavailable for the operation. Can you imagine what the outcome could have been if the Bridge was taken immediately by Major Howard's unit. It then could have been reinforced by the 3 and 1/2 battalions (including the Poles) under General Urquhart. It would have been less of risk for the 1st Airborne to land closer to the Bridge if the Bridge was already in British hands. One battalion held the Bridge for four days. 4 Battalions of men (counting Major Howard's men) most likely could have held out until the tanks arrived. It was a daring operation with many factors stacked against reaching Arnhem. Even if things I mentioned above occured, it still may have been a bridge too far. Larry
  23. If anyone is looking for a gripping account of combat try Black Hawk Down-- set in Somalia 1993. I usually only read about WWII, but this book has been excellent so far. A really harrowing account of what the Rangers and Delta Force operatives went through. Larry
  24. Lok- The 1st Airborne was not reformed after Market-Garden. Approximately 10,000 troops landed at Arnhem on 9/17/44 but only about 2,000 made it across the Rhine on 9/26/44. I don't know if it was reformed after the end of the war. The 101st and 82nd saw action at the Bulge. In fact, the 101st made it all the way to Hitler's Eagles' Nest and fought to the end of the war. Also, if you are looking for some good books try Pegasus Bridge and Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose. I really thought Stalingrad was very good. Anyone ever see Cross of Iron? If so, was it any good?
