  1. Major H, the uninstall delete worked. Thank you. Larry
  2. Thanks. Great idea. I suppose I can load the 1.12 patch normally then? Larry
  3. First, I removed CM using Add/remove programs. Now when I try use Maintenance Wizard it can't remove anything since my CMBO folder is gone. I can't get it to install to a specified folder it automatically sends it to C:\windows. What should I do? Thanks for your help. Larry
  4. I loaded CM and I loaded the patch. When I went to start programs it would load version 1.0, and when I loaded from the exe in the game folder it would load 1.12. I decided to unload and reload software. Now it will not reload. The Maintenance Wizard comes up and gives me the option to modify, repair or remove. When I try to modify it loads all the games files to C:\Windows with no option to load to any other folder. Any suggestions? Thanks. Larry Marks
  5. I believe that the Jagdpanther or the Hetzer was built on top of a British APC. Larry
  6. 2nd Character reference: double what Gus said. I bought some new paint and a display case for the Microarmor. The pieces will look great in my new office at work. My cat starting swatting Tigers and Shermans a few weeks ago, but they survived. I left them in a bad place.....anywhere he can see them. Larry
  7. Matt, if in TGN's view you are not "under contract", you are free to take you skills elsewhere. It appears you have entered into a valid contract with TGN. I don't see any relevance to TGN's parent company, although I haven't read your contract. Your site is the best out there, and I can see how much hard work you put into it. Maybe it is time for you to play hardball if you feel you are being taken advantage of and host a site elsewhere. Larry
  8. I am currently playing the Drop to Destiny scenario as the All-Americans. I have followed the designer's (I believe Moon designed it) suggestion by only plotting orders and watching replays in the first person. This is a fascinating way to play the scenario. It really simulates the confusion and lack of organization the 82nd dealt with on landing in Normandy in the middle of the night. Great scenario. Has anyone tried playing it solely in the first person? It makes it very difficult to organize attacks. You have to move your troops toward the sounds of battle. Larry
  9. To make up for today I guess I will have to order 50 more copies. Wargames in general are not made to cater to the masses, except perhaps some of the beer and pretzels type games. So, there is no need to rush out the product when it is crap. I think I am like most wargamers and want high quality. I am in no rush. I am not going anywhere (as cowebs form around his head waiting for CM to ship). It takes time to build something special. I am glad that Charles and Steve take pride in what they produce. Larry
  10. I believe that Johnny Depp and Ed Harris will be in a movie to be called "Enemy at the Gates" set near Moscow in 1941. That is my understanding. Larry
  11. In 1995, during our honeymoon, my wife and I visited Pearl Harbor and went to the Arizona Memorial. That is something I will never forget. It was very powerful. Larry
  12. I don't know if anyone has said this yet--SHIP IT! Larry
  13. "I'm ok, I just got the wind knocked out of me".....or something to that effect from the Sergeant (Mike) at the end of Saving Private Ryan. That is an incredible screenshot. Wonder if anyone has anything that can top this one? Larry
  14. I made the mistake of downloading new drivers for my Wicked Metabyte Voodoo 2. What a nightmare. Couldn't get CM to work properly after it worked great with my old drivers. I tried everything--reloaded drivers several times, reloaded Directx 7, but nothing worked. The sky would pulsate with different colors or the graphics would go crazy with wild colors and shapes. I had to reload drivers that came with the card which are even older then my previous ones. CM works fine with these. I am going to be a little gun shy loading new drivers in the future. Hopefully, the final version will work ok with my card's latest drivers. Larry
  15. I have good news and bad news. My wife is going to a concert tonight so I am a bachelor for the night, but I have to play Close Combat 3 with a friend at 8:30pm.......the horror, the horror. Guess I will have to catch the transcript. Larry
  16. Fionn, thanks for all the work in putting the AAR's up. They are very interesting. However, I unfortunately watched some turns yesterday and they were saved over the game I was playing. I had saved my turns to the autosave file and didn't realize playing the movies would effect my game. It is no big deal. I stopped banging my head against the wall in my computer room after about 15 minutes, and I think I stopped bawling like a baby about 10 minutes after that. So as you can see I handled it very well. I was playing Last Defense as the Americans and in my last turn I had knocked out the Tiger and 2 Stugs with my Hellcats. Oh well, at least I learned a lesson. One question, with the new AAR format should I just highlight the PBEM movie text and save it or do something else? I noticed that saving the page created a TGN folder in my Combat Mission folder. Thanks again for the hard work. Larry [This message has been edited by Larry Marks (edited 11-11-99).]
  17. Fionn, I would like to be shrunk and placed in CC3 as an infantryman. Thank you. Larry
  18. Playing Last Defense as Americans Turn 7: I have two squads, bazooka and hq defending the wall against what looks like a platoon-sized Geman assault. They are holding their own, although one squad has broken and fled. On my last turn the bazooka team took 4 shots at the Stug coming down the dirt road to the town. First shot hit frontal armor with no impact, missed next two shots, but with last shot took out the Stug with side shot. This blocked the Tiger and the halftrack right behind it. The halftrack actually crashed into the Tiger. I heard a clank--hopefully the halftrack driver has insurance. Things are not going as well on the right side of my defense. The remants of my units are in the first blockhouse across from the treeline. I have a decimated squad, bazooka, and hq holed up on the building and another decimate squad outside. I am being assaulted by over two platoons of infantry. Tracers all over the place. One interesting thing happpened: German halftrack flanked the building and went down the road behind it. Bazookaman turned around and fired missed by a mile--it looks like the backblast killed a member of hq--is that possible? I do not remember. Luckily, I have three MGS left. Two are up high in the big buildings and have that halftrack under fire. However, without reinforcments I am done on the right flank. Too much firepower. Left flank is still secure. No mortars left--they did take out two halftracks, but thankfully reinforcements have just arrived. 3 hellcats and a company of infantry. Have to take out the Tiger. Interestly, one Stug is doing nothing on the extreme right flank, unbuttoned. Looks like he is drinking coffee. Did anyone get an FO with American setup? The Germans have one and I think my right flank defense is going to be shredded by artillery soon. I just finished a CC3 grand campaign and it gives me a good perspective on the differences between the games. Just focusing on gameplay, and forgetting other serious problems with CC3 (they should have named the game "Tank Combat on the Eastern Front"), I am surprised how the simultaneous turn based system is more immersive than the real time system. CC3 has a tendency to degrade itself into a clickfest. CM gives you some time to plot moves and make tactical choices, while sometimes I end up twitching on the floor after CC3. Don't get me wrong--each game has its positives and negatives--but I believe that CM surpasses the CC system and will continue to evolve while CC may be reaching the end of the line. This will strongly be determined by CC4. I was severely disappointed by CC3 after loving CC2. Time will tell. GREAT DEMO Charles and Steve. I know the final product will be better. Wargame of the year.......no contest. Larry
  19. Just curious, is there a way to determine your fps in CM? Some games have a key that will provide this info. I am playing on a 200MMX, 64mb ram and Wicked Metabyte Voodoo 2 and the game runs smooth as silk. Larry
  20. Jeeeeeeeezzzzzzzz, when is the final version going to be ready??? And how about a time estimate on CM2????? JUST KIDDING. Charles, Steve thanks for all the hard work on the getting the demo out. Larry
  21. Oscar, I have heard some good things about HPS' games and I respect the fact that you feel strongly about their quality. But do me a favor before you start criticizing CM play the damn demo. How can you validly attack a system that you have never played before? Once you play the demo you will be able to determine if Charles has not delivered on what he has promised. In addition, you will be able to develop an impression based on your experience as opposed to representations by others. At that point, you can have a rational discussion with this forum and point out your objections. The best thing is.....if you don't like the demo, don't buy the game. No one will have a gun to your head (although I can think of several people waiting in line for a turn to do that). This forum invites your opinions, but I puzzled by your agenda at this point. In my view, you are jumping the gun a little. Charles and Steve......do me a favor.......forget Oscar.....If he doesn't buy the game you should still be able to avoid Chapter 11. You have made attempts to deal with him on a rational level. I think you have done all you can do. Larry
  22. I would also like to thank Moon and Fionn for the time they spent describing their play to us. I know it was a lot of work. You were successful in describing the immersiveness of the game, and your enthusiasm for the system was represented in your writing. Soon we all will get a chance to get a taste of the game, and hopefully it is as excellent as it appears to be. Thanks again guys. Larry
  23. Pix, my best to you and your wife. It is fascinating to look back at how Hitler rose to power in the period between the World Wars. He was able to gain an iron grip on a country bitterly defeated in 1918 and subject to severe economic hardships during the 20's and early 30's. He was the wrong man at the right time (for him). I have always wondered what course the war would have taken on September 3, 1939 if France and England did not act on their promise to come to Poland's aid. I believe that Hitler would have turned East first toward Russia. That would have been perfect. Let the two totalitarian regimes beat the hell out of each other. The US still would had to fight Japan though. The course of history would have been very different. The Germans may have a better shot of defeating the Russians if they invaded in May 1940 instead of June of 1941. However, if they were successful, Hitler would have then turned West. As his actions showed prior to the war, nothing was ever enough for him. History has deemed the Allies to have fought a "noble war" against the Axis from 1939 to 1945 because of the defeat of the totalitarian political systems. However, on a more basic level the GI must have had two things in mind: stay alive and kill the enemy. It doesn't shock me that the Allies committed atrocities. I recently spoke to a Korean vet who was there in 1950 about the massacre and a Vietnam vet about the Korean massacre and My Lai. It is interesting that they both said the same exact thing: "War is hell". I think their point was combat is real hairy and **** happens. I am not condoning or approving the acts, but trying to understand why it happens. War on a grand scale might be fought for rational reasons, but to the combat soldier who has bullets flying all around him his reality has to be more irrational. What is right or wrong to us looking from a very safe distance might not be so clear to those in combat. Larry
  24. Steve, a Voodoo 2 is a 3d card only. I have a Diamond Stealth 2000 as my primary display card. A Voodoo Banshee card and the Voodoo 3 are 2d/3d combination cards. I hope that CM will work ok with my card. Larry
