1. Carentan, of COURSE there's a key ... there's always a key ... in this case it's the key of very flat. Joe
2. Gila, welcome aboard, just for your information ... "for your information" is usually abbreviated FYI Just wanted to toss that in. ANYWAY ... if you liked AH products you'll think you've died and gone to heaven when you play CM a few times. Even youngsters like myself (50) think it's a great game. So again, welcome and if you haven't tried the demo yet, by all means download it. Then put your order in, they're shipping next week Joe ------------------ "I don't want them brave, I want them dead!" Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson
3. Has anyone seen Maximus and OBG together? I think not. And by the way ... you're all humming out of key. Joe ------------------ "I don't want them brave, I want them dead!" Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson
4. SEARCH ... must remember to SEARCH before posting ... NOTE TO SELF ... remember to SEARCH before posting. If I had done that I would have seen Fionn's response about Armored Trains in CM2 ... {sigh}. SEARCH ... must remember to ... Joe ------------------ "I don't want them brave, I want them dead!" Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson
5.
quote:
white wine are swirelled around in cocktail glasses by Robert Mitchum and Vanessa Redgrave

Like your "perfect" scenario could happen Peng ... sheesh ... don't be ridiculous ... Bob Mitchum is dead. Joe ------------------ "I don't want them brave, I want them dead!" Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson
6. Good question Danno and while we're at it ... how about armored trains in CM2 Too late to include them in CM of course, but the Germans used them extensively on the Eastern Front, IIRC. Joe
7. Pritzl, I don't for sure of course, but I know that in a PBEM game I recently played the barbed wire worked as advertised. A US squad tried to get through and got hung up for a considerable period of time. Joe
8. I don't know if ICQ is "The" way to PBEM but it's a good way. Go to www.mirabilis.com and DL the latest version. It's free and gives you the ability to send "instant" messages, files and so forth. It also has a chat function built into it. Once you've DLed it, just follow the instructions to register. You will be assigned an ICQ #. Once you have that you can publish it here or on any one of the many CM sites that either exist or will exist once the game comes out. Generally you will make arrangements with an ICQ buddy to meet on ICQ at a certain time. One of the nice things about ICQ is that it can stay resident on your computer and informs you when your buddies show up. Once you're both on ICQ, you fire up the game and, when you've completed your turn, you send it via ICQ file transfer. To do that, you just right click on your buddies name, choose "File" from the menu, select the file you want to send and it's on it's way. Once your buddy gets it, he drops it into CM and you're off to the races. The advantage, of course, is that you're both on at the same time and can send your files immediately. That way you don't have to check your email every five seconds. In addition you can send messages back and forth when you're not working on the game. Actually, with CM's ability to switch back to the desktop you can flip back and forth between the game and ICQ ... if your buddy happens to be the rude type that wants to talk while you're plotting your move Joe
9. Matt you've done it again. Now I can indulge my two favorite online passions, CM and Grand Prix Legends ... that red blur was my 1967 Formula One Ferrari, you can't hit what you can't see Forza Ferrari! Joe [This message has been edited by Joe Shaw (edited 05-27-2000).]
10. I wondered about that too Danno Seems like an oxymoron doesn't it. Anyway, yes I am on ICQ as 4210416. Please mention CM in the request to authorize. I'll add you to my list as well. Joe
11. Haha, yes, I am an ace, I have destroyed 5 FW 190's ... I did it in a Sherman but still ... Joe
12. Good eye Danno (do people say "Book 'em" a lot to you? ). The better job we do getting the word out about CM the better our chances to see more CM's in the future. I threw out my two cents worth on the forum. Joe
13. Geeze Lewis isn't it about time for your meds? First you post some very good, insightful comments about the game that I, for one, really appreciated. Then you go off like this:
quote:
Well.. 'troll' is a convenient word that is slapped on anyone that is not a fawning sychophant. Also anyone controversial or of an independant way of thinking. Its just a trite way for online nazis to compartmentalize people. Not everyone needs to like everyone. We are all different.

As you are well aware, "troll" is a very common and widely accepted description for someone who posts with the sole intention of stirring things up without actually saying anything useful. It's usually done anonymously or using an untraceable alias (and yes, I know that GL has an email, but it's a hotmail address after all.) And just because we don't agree with you on everything doesn't make us "fawning sychophants" or "nazis". It's not necessary to be a flaming jerk in order to make your points. And finally ...
quote:
Look. I aint no brain surjin but I detect a strong whiff of Fionn here. Fess up Fionn. Its you and we all know it.

You are either (1) a complete idiot for actually believing this, (2) trying to be funny and not having a clue how to pull it off or (3) practicing your own trolling skills. "Fess up". Joe
14. I'm in the Salt Lake area, so I guess we could form a "chapter" of two ... wanna flip for Chairman Joe
15. Bocage is hedgerow terrain. I'm looking forward to the scenario creator as well, in fact it's going to be a toss up as to whether I play one of the scenarios first or fire up the scenario editor Joe
16. Steve, you're absolutely correct. I too, when I first saw this post, got a strong whiff of troll. Interior Decorator, San Francisco, Gay*Lover, but as long as the posts are OT then it's fine by me. Speaking of OT and to address the question originally posed, I think the methodology of the game has been explained well enough. While it's not perfect (nothing is) it's the best tactical WW2 ground game I've seen, and I've been playing organized wargames since 1969. Set it up to DL overnight and you won't be sorry, it's a great game. Joe
17. Cool, then I can form the Utah Chapter ... uh oh, wait a minute ... Utah ... set your clocks back forty years ... damn, we don't even have Atari 400's yet ... never mind. Joe
18. Sorry to clog up the board this way, but someone (apparently from this board) emailed me and asked for a game. Unfortunately I saw it at the office. By the time I got home my ISP had fried it's disk drive and the email was gone. Just didn't want to ignore anyone on the board. Thanks for your patience guys. Joe
19. Thanks Babra, I appreciate the information. I heard that quote years ago on a TV show and it was atttibuted to the Irish. I always liked it but didn't know where it came from. It's better to be wrong and corrected than just wrong BTW, my wife is of Welsh descent ... I think that explains a lot Joe
20. OK, CM is still #1 on the Adrenaline Vault, with a rating of 91.1 and 416 voters. BUT, I asked myself, what's in last place? Turns out it's a fine creation that goes by the name of (I'm dead serious ... well, let me rephrase that) Russian Roulette 2 with a rating of 18.5 and 87 voters. Turns out, other than a trivial few more positive votes, RR2 {kind of makes you wonder how bad RR1 was doesn't it} sounds a lot like CM. Here's part of the description: "You can choose a master to serve, a vehicle to ride, but your goal will be the same: to destroy or completely defeat enemy units." Anyone up for a PBEM game?
21. I just completed a double blind PBEM game of VOT as the Germans and got my head handed to me. My defeat was partially a result of some poor placements on my part and, of course, mostly due to good play by my opponent. My first thought was that the scenario was heavily stacked against the Germans, after waiting and waiting and waiting for the damned Panther to show up it seemed even more so. My 150 gun was killed on the first turn and my 75 pillbox was smoked most of the game before it fell to a gunslit hit. I managed to get a gun hit on one of the 105 Shermans and the Panther did the same to a 75 Sherman before a 105 arty round killed my last chance to do more damage to the Ami tanks. In retrospect, I think the Germans can win this one, but it isn't going to be easy and it's going to depend on some luck. I think that played double blind the Germans would have a very tough time. We have a rematch starting tonight, maybe I'll take the Germans again and see if I can do better. Joe
22. Nah Matt's not my type, I have very strict standards, absolutely must be female ... and no reptiles. A guy's gotta draw the line someplace. Joe ------------------ "The Irish are a fine, mad race ... all their wars are happy ... and all their songs are sad." I can say that, I'm of Irish descent:) And if anyone knows the origin of that quote I'd be eternally in your debt.
23. Damn Matt, first you have a headache, now you're crying ... it's just like being married Joe ------------------ "The Irish are a fine, mad race ... all their wars are happy ... and all their songs are sad." I can say that, I'm of Irish descent:) And if anyone knows the origin of that quote I'd be eternally in your debt.
24. 14 Inchers And I thought the arty in VOT was bad. Joe ------------------ "The Irish are a fine, mad race ... all their wars are happy ... and all their songs are sad." I can say that, I'm of Irish descent:) And if anyone knows the origin of that quote I'd be eternally in your debt.
25. Step 2, "take her out and treat her like a lady" ... nope, wrong program. Anyway, I keep coming back to this board just knowing that one day, one day very soon now, there will be a post from some lucky soul saying "I GOT IT!" ... at which point I'll likely have to develop a sudden case of something dreadful and run home Joe ------------------ "The Irish are a fine, mad race ... all their wars are happy ... and all their songs are sad." I can say that, I'm of Irish descent:) And if anyone knows the origin of that quote I'd be eternally in your debt.
