  1. Some out of the ordinary footage.  Seen from both first person and drone camera (with sub-titles)

In a video published by Ukrainian GUR about raids on the Boyko Towers sea rig near Crimea, they showed a battle between 3 Ukrainian small boats and a Russian jet. Crew on boats managed to hit the jet and force it to flee.

Here's a link the full 13 minute video

  2. Reports of Storm Shadow strikes have dried up over the past weeks making me wonder if UKR have exhausted their supply. Hopefully only for the time being.  Makes sense though to use them when they have them and free up HIMARS for other things.

In the absence of either side having air superiority and with the heavy reliance on infantry, artillery has proven to be a very effective weapon in this conflict.  If UKR can both degrade RU's ability to use their artillery and gain dominance I think it's well worth it - lack of ammunition is great but if you don't have the weapons to use the ammunition, even better.

Also, there was something the other day talking about RuAF getting better at distributing/hiding/protecting the higher value assets and targets from long range strikes, it's a few pages back I think.

  3. Something good to hear said and reported on as far as the US political front goes.

In the US Senate, they expect that the upper chamber will approve additional funding for Ukraine in the amount of $24 billion by the end of September, according to Mitch McConnell, the leader of the Republican minority in the Senate.

I am now looking for ignore button.

Please gents can we keep focus on Ukraine and stop the rabbit holes.

BTW There are others that I am close to pressing the ignore button on (when I can find it....)

Hover over the user's name or picture for a second for the profile menu to come up.  Ignore is at the bottom right.

  5. Another long twitter thread detailing a pretty grim picture of life at the front for mobilised RU men.

    Quote

Half of the soldiers from the mobilised "Leningrad Regiment" are said to have been killed fighting near Bakhmut. Survivors say they were given little equipment or ammunition, and have been maltreated by incompetent officers who sent them into deadly positions

Totally sounds like a leader recognizing the only way forward now for Russia and Ukraine is negotiations.

For contrast, Zelensky again near the front meeting the troops.  Whilst it is all well stage managed the troops are armed and in full (admittedly clean) battle gear.

As part of a working trip to the Donetsk region, President Zelensky visited combat brigades that are conducting offensive operations in the Bakhmut direction.

  7. Couple of encouraging tweet threads.  Second one has clips to back up their claims for geo location of RU shelling their own trench line.

The situation in the Robotyne-Verbove area is developing in a positive direction for the Ukrainians. Ukraine has further penetrated the first Surovikin line near Verbove, now reaching the main trenchline. Ukrainians have also overran Russian positions south of Robotyne

Ukrainians are expanding their breach with more infantry and/or recon and they have highly likely reached the trenchsystem protecting the Surovikin line

First evidences of Challenger 2 in action. But from what tanker told it becomes clear, why these tank were in the shadow.

This guy (he served on T-64, T-72, T-80) says, Challenger has very accurate gun and targeting system, which allows to hit enemy targets from very big ranges. This is tracked "sniper rifle", So, Challengers don't use like other tanks for "сarousel" and infantry support with HE shells. Challengers have a task to hit enemy armor from big distance in shoot&scoot way. Tanker also praises easy of service and repair works in comparison with Soviet tanks as well as these tanks give more chanses to survive after hit or even several hits.

Tanker also told about tanks increadibly raise infantry morale and if these are western tanks, morale increasing more high, so infantry then is ready to follow them and just kick off the enemy from the trenches with a legs.

    Same clip with sub-titles

  9. Interesting clip - looks like RU attack helo chasing and firing it's gun at a UKR drone. Caption says is Crimea, looks like it's over water.  I was hopeful that the fast moving thing coming from the right towards the end was a SAM but it's only the operator'ss mouse pointer

Thread detailing of each of the 26 Bradley's lost thus far, based on the work of the Oryx team.

And this is dark humour or maybe karma. Looks like two guys having an fight, it doesn't end well.

The Ukrainian Main Military Intelligence Directorate (GUR) reported that the Kremlin is currently focused on promoting five main information operations against Ukraine, all of which ISW has observed. The GUR reported on August 29 that the Russian Presidential Administration held a meeting on August 25 to approve the specific narratives that Russian media should promote in the information space.[33] The Russian narratives include claims that Ukraine is conducting mass mobilization regardless of age, gender, or health; claims that Ukraine’s Western partners are disappointed in Ukraine‘s prospects for victory; claims that the Ukrainian counteroffensive is failing; claims that the Ukrainian government is completely corrupt and is not fighting corruption and; claims that Russian authorities provide good living standards and conditions in occupied Ukraine.[34] Russian First Deputy Presidential Chief of Staff Sergey Kiriyenko and Russian media representatives reportedly attended the meeting. ISW has observed all five false narratives in the Russian information space.[35

A bayonet? Really? I thought that fad had run its way in WWI...

Who knows.  They're the ones doing the fighting, I'm pretty sure they're more experienced at it than any of us.

Speaking of ye olde things, there's a short clip from one of these guys where you see him step over a Mosin-Nagant in the dirt as he moves through a trench.

  12. Chosen Company doing a trench assault.  Unit is foreign volunteers serving with the 59th Motorized Brigade.  There's been a few clips recently from Ryan O'Leary who is with this unit (the one where the RU man ran back into his trench and then ran away again).  There's nothing graphic besides an aussie's colourful language.  Is quite a change hearing people communicating all in English.

  13. More today from ISW re low RU morale and supply.  There's also an interesting paragraph on machinations within the Kremlin.

Russian milbloggers continue to indicate that Russian forces lack equipment and suffer from low morale along the entire frontline. A Russian milblogger claimed that Russian forces – especially the 20th Combined Arms Army (Western Military District) and 2nd Combined Arms Army (Central Military District), both operating in eastern Ukraine – lack light transportation vehicles, which inhibits them from using equipment and operating effectively and reduces their morale.[10] The milblogger claimed that Russian personnel must register their privately-owned vehicles with the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD), after which their vehicles disappear or get transferred elsewhere.[11] The milblogger claimed that Russian commanders regularly punish servicemen who keep their vehicles for minor administrative violations and that Russian personnel feel that they are “at war” with their commanders.[12] A Russian milblogger claimed on August 21 that Russian authorities have not provided Russian forces operating in the Kherson direction with boats and have ignored milbloggers’ ongoing appeals since July 2.[13] “Vostok” Battalion commander Alexander Khodakovsky claimed that Russian forces continue to face problems with counterbattery operations after Russian forces began experiencing artillery systems shortages and claimed that Russian forces began to receive “outdated” D-20 towed gun-howitzers.[14] Khodakovsky claimed that the “outdated” D-20 howitzers are not suitable for counterbattery combat, possibly referring to barrel wear from constant use that makes tube artillery less accurate over time.[15] Multiple milbloggers have claimed that Russian forces lack adequate counterbattery capabilities, especially since Commander of the 58th Combined Arms Army Major General Ivan Popov’s dismissal in early July.[16] Another Russian milblogger, however, claimed that Russian forces are improving artillery tactics and that artillery units have become far more accurate than they were a year ago.[17] The milblogger may be suggesting that mobilized personnel who did not have prior military experience have learned to accurately strike targets. Ongoing complaints from Russian personnel suggest that the Russian MoD is unwilling or unable to address persistent equipment shortages and problems with low morale.
