  1. I remember seeing that incident last year.  He runs into the their hole, unarmed looking like he's surrendering or maybe protecting his head(?) Obviously confused, he stops for a moment, then runs back out of the UKR hole and into another trench a few meters away.  And I think that's where he's killed.

Two Ukrainian M142 HIMARS on an Antonov An-124-100 arrived at Harrisburg International Airport in Pennsylvania, likely for repairs. One of the HIMARS has shraphnel damage on one side, although minor. The other seems to have hit a mine and sustained a lot more damage.

The footage was uploaded 19 hours ago, so likely recent.

Unloading starts are ~5 minute mark.  There's also a youtube link to the footage - https://youtu.be/5gVRSoPM1mY

  3. Updated loses spreadsheet for Avdiivka (second tweet).  Quite eye watering numbers if these are truly accurate. Like Oryx, the spreadsheet links to the evidence of each claim.

#Avdiivka offensive equipment loss numbers as of 02 February 2024.

In summary: 608 RU losses vs. 46 UA losses

Spreadsheet showing the losses in detail: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VIyACYHfnJi8cUMWjXAXDhS419l9IHcIhGJaK1RWMFQ/edit?usp=sharing

  4. Wasn't there another Asimov story about the world being managed by AI, everything had been going great but then things started going wrong in a big way, famine etc. The main character investigates and discovers it's corrupt humans feeding incorrect data to the AI that's the problem. Might have been one of the Robot short stories, this human computer can't remember.

  5. Little example that things are hard for at least some of the the RU forces (note there's a close up of desiccated corpse if that bothers anyone).  He does look a bit under nourished compared to the Chechen's we used to see.

A Chechen fighter talks about the state of affairs at the front. He says that they are starving, drinking the water from puddles and suffering huge losses. Multiple casualties can be seen. He also says they are simply sitting in dugouts and are afraid to stick their heads out.

And a Leo 2 looking very workman like (the Balkenkreuz on one of these might annoy some though).

Here is just small part of combined work FPV, dron dropping and artilelry - dozens of Russian bodies left near the fence of coke plant. This location already known as "Fence of the Death". Without drones, Russian already would be fight inside coke plant.

Looks like UKR should build more fences

  7. Long clip counting the many wrecked RU AFVs around Avdiivka.

RAAF F/A-18's might be possible again

Article is paywalled - here's some of what it says

Ukraine is pleading with the Albanese government for a regular supply of coal as Russia lobs intense attacks on its electricity grid, and will soon make a fresh request for the RAAF’s retired F/A-18 fighter jets after a deal to transfer them to an American company lapsed.

Amid stalemates on the battlefield and in US Congress for further funding of the war effort, Ukrainian defence officials this week included the 1980s-era F/A-18 Hornets as one of the weapons they wanted in top level talks with American counterparts.

Talks between Australian, US and Ukrainian officials to sell Australia’s retired Hornets stalled earlier this year, in part because of the decision to prioritise acquiring F-16 fighter jets instead.

An American aviation company, RAVN, was given the rights to dispose of the aircraft, and initially looked at moving them to the US to be used as “enemy” planes in training exercises.

RAVN’s contract to dispose of the planes lapsed this month, leaving the federal government fully back in charge of their fate. The planes are slated for destruction if they cannot be sold or transferred.

A condition report identified 14 of the 41 airframes in the best condition that could be readied within four to six months to make them airworthy and squeeze another two years of life out of them.

    3.  This is just as advertised, a 'day in the life', several long GoPro sequences, unedited. No 'dramatic' action takes place; the section doesn't leave their trenches until they remount at the end and never see the enemy (he's in grenade range at one point), but guys do get wounded (female medic). Skip to daylight at 2:30 or so.

Thanks, very interesting.  Some of the best footage I've seen to be honest.

Edits - 19min mark guy gets hit with shrapnel right in front of her from a tree burst.

Enemy armour around 22 min?  Stressful

In close contact, taking your eyes off your environment is likely unwise, but perhaps  provide some kind of feedback from drone spotters via a weapon scope or NV goggles, showing bearing and distance to enemy positions? A year ago I would have said that's sci-fi, but now....

I imagine tactical glasses or goggles doing augmented rather than full virtual reality could be helpful.  Have to keep the HUD very simple, compass at the top of the viewed area, red dots show range/direction of enemies etc.  Most games have stuff like this already so no need to re-invent the wheel.  I wouldn't be surprised if we see things like this is our lifetime with a human operated drone per squad to start with and then eventually autonomous drones and finally drone networks doing precision weapon guidance at range with human infantry only moving in to mop up.

Edit to add - the precision weapons will include swarms of available killer drones waiting to strike, like the allies did with the cab rank system after Normandy.  The beginnings are here, I'll just link this, the second clip is longer and includes the first.  It's graphic footage of drones striking infantry as seen from another surveillance drone.

  10. An investigation into claimed corruption and fraud in UKR military procurement.  Haven't finished watching it yet, is a bit hammy with camera effects etc, but an interesting exercise in following the money.  Obviously I can't vouch for the accuracy of the story, UKR friends might be able to shed light on that.  I'm mainly going off this channel having had some good reports in the past.    Has english subs.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine spent two billion UAH on three contracts for the purchase of ammunition.

This is a contract with the Ukrainian company "Lviv Arsenal" for the supply of 100,000 mortar mines ($37.6 million), with the Croatian WDG promet – for 30,000 tank rounds ($32.5 million) and with the Slovak Sevotech – for the purchase of 15,000 sets of helmets and body armor (€13 million). All three contracts failed.

At first glance, they are not related to each other, but in fact they are all parts of one big story. Hromadske investigators found out where the money went, why there is still no ammunition and who is to blame.
