1. SS_PanzerLeader, Couldn't agree more. We can't do anything about it anyway, so these porst are only bugging people unnecessarily. Let BTS work and as soon as they have something worthwhile to tell us, they will. In short Stabsfeldwebel: relax, play CM, visit your girlfriend go out and have a beer, enjoy the weather, listen to the birds, watch football or whatever makes you (and the rest of us) happy and stop posting these posts. 2.
quote:
Add to that "Himmel", "Mein Gott", and "Donnerwetter" so that we could play old WWII comics scenarios... (You know, those where a brave and heroic Allied soldier singlehandedly wins the war by ruining a German war-winning plan).

We should also have the "Verdammt, Battler Briton" when the allied Jabos appear or how about british troops armed with jokes: "Wenn ist das Nunstück git und Slotermeyer? Ja! Beiherhund das Oder die Flipperwaldt gersput!"
3. I'd have to go with howardb on this one. All other tings being equal, the older guy will probably have an advantage due to experience. For instance, I'm playing tennis with my dad, who's close to sixty, and he beats me every time. My shots are better, I'm in better condition, but I still lose. He's just standing there, waiting for me, and his patience is driving me nuts, so I force my game and puts it wide or in the net. Not to say it's the same, but sort of. Anticipation and experience can do wonders for you - especilly if you know who you're up against. (And I really am better than him. Stop giggling, please )
4. 45) German Königstigers being set ablaze by the american SDI (yes, it really is that effective )
5. 42) A Domino's delivery guy axing an entire german regiment
6. You know, you're getting old when: You can live without sex but not without glasses. Your back goes out more than you do. Your blod pressure is higher than your IQ. You start to think Cocoon was a great movie. You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge. You buy a compass for the dash of your car. You are proud of your lawn mower. You sing along with the elevator music. Your ears are hairier than your head. Your arms are almost too short to read the newspaper.
7. I'm only 25 and I'm getting a bit worried. Is there an age criteria in CM? What I mean is, are us youngsters allowed to play it or do I have to wait 'til I'm 30? (which is probably when CM is released anyway )
8. I think BTS said that it's a problem in the beta demo and that it's been fixed by now.

Save your mortar ammo for use against these prime targets, then bring your armour out from behind the buildings or trees you've been using for cover to engage any surviving M18s

Well, a direct mortar hit will take out a Hellcat, but chances are that you'll hit none of them as they tend to move a lot - especially to get good angels at your StuGs or Tiger, so I don't think it's worth the effort. The mortars can do much more damage to the US infantry, and they really are the main concern in that scenario.

11. CM Demo, CM99/00 (That's Championship Manager, not Combat Mission), Harpoon, Homeworld and Giana Sisters (just love that 64-emulator for my PC)
12. I kind of like it It shows a real commitment on the commanders behalf and that he really cares for his men. No sitting back in the treeline and watching his me get slaughtered. Forwärts männer, mir nach
13. Try Apocalyptica, a classical finnish quartet playing Metallica, Sepultura and Pantera on four cellos only. It's just amazing what they can do with their instruments.
14. What would the punishment be, if you were caught playing the illegal CM i Germany anyway? Would the judge bring out the ruler and smack you with it, fine you or throw you in jail?
15. R Cunningham, Good point, but I think you're wrong about Waffen SS not beeing a political entity. The admission of non-Germans and especially Slavs was a necessity of war, and you're right that it makes the idea of the political soldier suspect. But the nucleus of the Waffen SS, the original four divisions, can be thought of as a political entity. Four divisions out of 38 isn't much, I know, but they were the only ones that existed prior to Barbarossa and the only ones, that can be labelled true Waffen SS. Another aspect is that Waffen SS had it's own legal system, the "SS Sondergerichtbarkeit". The German Army accused one of it's own soldiers and a Waffen-SS soldier of shooting 50 jewish prisoners and the prosecuter demanded the death penalty. However, the court ruled that the Waffen SS-soldier was especially sensitive to the presence of jews and only sentenced hin to a short time in jail. But to avoid these cases in the future, the special legal system was introduced. As for the "Untermenschen" pressing in on the Reich, doesn't mean that the ideology failed. For some it did, but for many others, it was the sheer number of Slavs, that was pushing the Germans back, not skill. So the idea of Ayrans as the master Race didn't necessarily conflict with Germany losing the War. Still, ideology wasn't iron clad, and many soldiers lived with the locals and grew to like them, despite the fact, that they had been tought to think of them as sub-humans, so in that respect, you have a good point. Finally, I agree with you that the importance of ideology on the battlefield is often overrated. On the other hand the importance of ideology in everyday life shouldn't be. The Waffen SS-soldiers were supposed to be the best of the best and behave as true super-humans. That meant that theft from your comrades was a serious offence, as it showed a flaw in your caracter, and it was punishable by death, as was homosexuality. I 1944 a NCO was sentenced to death for having masturbated with another man. Despite the fact, that he had received the Iron Cross and a lack of qualified soldiers, the sentence was carried out to keep the honour of the unit intact, so the political ascpet was a significant factor - albeit not in all units.
16. Sorry for bringing this up, but there actually is a world away from the computer and CM (I just hope ligtning doesn't strike me for beeing blasphemous). But as a keen board gamer I'd just like to know your favourite board games. Mine's WiF since I never really played that many tactical ones. BTW, does anyone know when computer-WiF is coming out. I saw some screenshots of it about eight months ago, but I havn't seen anything since.
17. Got my new computer in august and what a relief. My old one was a 486 50Mhz with 4 MB RAM. 3d-card? Never heard of it before. Must be an advertising gimmick, I thought. Havn't tried installing CM on my old computer, but I might just for laughs. Seeing the screen go black would just make me appreciate my new computer even more.
18. Madmatt, please take it easy on the colours. My doctor has warned me about such excess, as it might damage my eye-sight. Das Boot, wearing sun-glasses
19. Fionn, I'll take your word for it. BTW, do you have any info on soviet losses in the last month or so of the Pacific war, I read somewhere that they were horrendous?
20. Well, I'd settle for Rudel in a Stuka any day. Fionn, seeing how well you dealt with the Jabo in the Alpha AAR, I think you'd agree
21. Actually, the Germans didn't go with Fall Gelb, an almost a total copy of the Schlieffen-plan (spelling?) from 1914, since a copy of it fell into the allies hands. Instead von Manstein came up with the Sichelschnitt (spelling, again?) that reversed the axis of attack from the north to the middle. No doubt, that Guderian was a great general, but the attack on France was Mansteins idea. BTW, Zhukov wasn't just a meatgrinder. IIRC In August 1939 he defeated the japanese in some border fighting using armour and infantry in close support and actually did this sort of combat before the germans.
22. I don't know about the other europeans, but the scandinavians were thought of af aryans, and thought so themselves. In fact, at the end of the war, a lot of Danish Waffen SS troops complained about the soldiers from Eastern Europe, their lack of morale and tactical ability, and put it down to them being an inferior race. Xyphorus, I think you're right about many of the volounteers joining to fight the communist danger. In fact, the first commander of the Danish Free Corps in the Waffen SS was an ex-Army officer who was so diasppointed with the Danish resistance to the German invasion, that the joined Waffen-SS to fight the bolschevics. How's that for reasoning? He wasn't a nazi and resisted the idological indoctrination. Later he was removed from command after revolts amongst the conscipts calling him a bloody democrat (the original meaning, not the US party) and he was replaced by an iron-nazi.
