1) I am genuinely curious about the proper pronunciation and translation you brought up.
2) I am sure you have played CMBB as much as I have and I have other phrases that stuck in my head. And seeing how you said "...or even what the actual words were in Russian.", Long story short, In my haste I mistook that to mean there is a possible German alternative. And the only thing that sprung to mind (and sounds a lot alike if you say it out loud) is "Volle Deckung!" At least to me, it did at the time...again, in my haste.
3) I cannot think of any other way your quote above can be taken other than condescension. And I'm sorry you feel you have to do that to make yourself feel superior. But a guys gotta do what a guys gotta do to get through this life, right?

This sort of reminds me that in CMBB the Soviet troops used a phrase that always tickled me. I don't know what it meant or even what the actual words were in Russian, but to my ear it sounded exactly like, "I'm a gecko!" I used to smile every time I heard that and I heard it a lot. So I guess you could say that BB made me happy even though it didn't run well on my machine.

The first thing that comes to mind for me is "Volle dekung!" ( i hope I spelled that right). Which is German for "full cover!"...I think the equivalent would be "Hit the dirt!" or "get to cover!"(?)

How about a high power FM/AM transmitters? Or VHF/UHF transmitter tower? Something like the 1000' tall towers. Heck, even a cell (mobile phone) tower?

Wire, as in telephone wire, land line or something similar.
FM = Frequency Modulation which is anywhere from 76 to 108 MHz, depending on the country.
"sat" = Satellite communications
HF = High Frequency (more likely VHF = Very High Frequency -> "УКВ" (Ультракороткие волны?) up to 300 Mhz

Im a bit baffled by the A-10's absence too. I would think it would at least be an option for a scenario designers.
A-10 is fetishized to such a degree that I suspect there may be an A-10 section in the local XXX shop.
There has been alot of attention given to it, no doubt. But can you blame the pro A-10 crowd? The Air Force wants to replace it with the F-35! You know...because 150 rounds of cannon ammo is plenty! Not to mention the proven reliability of the F-35!
The AF has yet to come up with a good argument to retire the A-10. And right now the AF's new tactic is to make defending the A-10 equivalent to Senators and Congressman keeping bases open in their voting districts even though keeping that base open is not necessary or sound.
The only logical argument for the F-35 is to help keep the military industrial complex alive. And I dont think that is a good argument.
The ground pounders love the A-10. They love its long loiter time and its ability to bring lots of ordinance and delivery that ordinance close to the troops without getting them killed. It's relatively cheap and to operate and maintain. It is an established airframe and should stay.
Now if we can only allow the Kiowa to stay. Apaches are overated for the CAS roll.

I think what really cleared it up for me was:
"The opposite of a set piece battle is a "meeting engagement." An example was the battle of Lundy's Lane in the War of 1812. A more modern example is the Battle of Kursk (second stage), in which, after initial success, the Germans moved too far east (to extend their gains), and collided with the reinforcing Russian armies. So something like a Gettysburg or Waterloo, are the only two that I can think of to put it in historical terms (Besides Kursk or Lundy's Lane)
But in modern terms a "set piece battle" would be something on the level of an "operation" (Bagration?). Or on a smaller level, a planned assault on a fortification or some well dug in position. But seeing how fast maneuver is a big part of modern warfare I would think that large formations meeting and then setting up to go at each is a thing of the past.

Another board member used that term in a post here. I have heard this term used many times and only in reference to historical battles. I know how it is used. I am sure I could use it and make it sound as if I know what I'm talking about, but what does it mean!?!?!?!
I also googled it (or binged it...take your pick), with the results showing no definition, but only other uses of it.

Yea, my first thought was it will be used when you least expect it (More accurately when I least expect it). I will have played several scenarios never seeing it (editors choice). Then I will play THAT one scenario: It will be used in a non-open terrain or suburban/urban environment, in some keyhole, sniper position, merely 100 meters away from my Bradley/BMP or building full of infantry and BOOM! Thanks Mr Hardenburger!

It looks like it is only good for ambush and light armor. The sabot looks like it will barely scratch the paint on the front of any modern MBT (or anything late in the last century). The HEAT round is not much better. The only thing it has going for it is the missile it shoots. I don't see this gun lasting long on the modern battlefield. In the manual it seems to have an abundance of AP rounds.
Only regular optics? No laser range finders? I guess that's a plus. No one knows your about to shoot them if they have laser warning system. Better make the shot count.
It looks like a poor mans AT weapon.

Yeah, maybe. Unlikely you would have time, but many Iraqi crews chose this route in 2003. However, the 25mm is a very powerful gun. In real life, if I hit that T-90 like LT Upham's crew did, I'd give it a 50/50 chance of disabling the vehicle. A good gun or gun mount hit, a serious hit to the sights, a turret ring hit, drivers hatch, etc... All are vulnerable to one degree or another on any MBT, even from the front. I have friends who did just about exactly what Upham did in 2003 versus suddenly discovered T-72s, but with diametrically opposite results. With 30+ hits, you get a lot of chances for a lucky hit. You also have the strong possibility that the MBT crew won't hang tough to complete the engagement.
