I have been reading some interesting material about the use of the Shilka against groundtargets during the capture of Kabul in 1979 yesterday. I always thought this machine was not used as an offensive weapon by the Soviets in Afghanistan since it is designed for defending deployed groundforces against nearby low flying aerial targets. But according to a PDF file called "The takedown of kabul: An effective coup de main" the Zenitnaia Samokhodnaia Ustanovka did play an important role for surpressing hostile forces during this operation. This is probably not the right forum to mention this, but this information could come in handy when I will make a new CMA mission.
Have you played "Operation Storm 333" that comes with the game? It depicts that particular operation where Amin's palace was stormed and it has Shilka in it.
Normal Dude built that scenario BTW.

Wow, the briefing by itself is astounding! I realized I should put away time on the weekend to play this scenario.
Reading the briefing I think this is one of the very few scenarios that really puts out reality, that some battles are not simple "go there, kill everyone" but are a multi-stage missions that need to be understood and planned.
Great work!!!

I haven't got a chance to play it yet but by already impressed by the length of the briefing!
Looks like the author really spent quite some time building this scenario!
-
Correct me if I'm wrong but wont firing any rocket launcher indoors cause everyone in the room including the firier certain death?
According to russian solders who fired RPG's from within buildings - it wasn't fun but certainly was doable. The main thing, they said, is to yell to the teammates to warn them.
Also in Grozny during first chechen war russians lost a lot of tanks due to chechens firing RPG's (what else) from upper levels of multi-story buildings. Which again proves that it is quite doable.

There is probably no way to do that. But the scenarios with english briefings should be displayed fine in Russian version.

In Scenario Editor choose Ground Condition "Light Snow, Deep Snow etc." and then just place Snow tiles on Map Editor

Great news, hopefully Romm can release it soon!
Thanks for your hard work!

Great job SLR! Hopefully this briefing will get incorporated into the scenario as it'll help many non-french speaking players
-
Great, thanks for sharing the updated version! I actually haven't got to play the original so now will be a good time for me to go straight to your v1.01!
Keep em coming guys!

That's great news! Looking forward to it ZPBII!

They can't do that. The closest thing you can do is put some flavor object (junk, tire, can) next to an IED and then have your blue team shoot something high explosive or something like that into that flavor object. The explosion should destroy the IED if it's a very close hit.
In the briefing you can probably mention all this.

Boy! I would be all over it but I need to get a new computer (lost the previous one used for CM:A)...
Folks, if you test it post your comments here and I'll start convincing my wife that I really need a new computer (and use this scenario as an argument).
-
Wow! That's a nice touch!

Well, the firing ports feature was experimental and added originally only to one BMP. Given everyone loved it in the first version of CM:A we decided to add it to the rest of vehicles. However to implement proper visual animations would require a lot more time and resources which would render this initiative a no-go
So we decided to have a reasonable compromise...
-
This is a great idea! And great job!
-
Looks good!
-
But then it wouldn't be a surprise, would it
-
And another problem is that if the soldiers in BMP-1D use up their ammo, they cannot reload using the ammo in the vehicle!
Sure they can, just use the Acquire command.

Romm, so I understand this scenario is not available yet? Any ETA on it?
-
Dima, there were no red troops left? I'm reading that as meaning you found it rather easy?
Played it through myself and I got owned (although I didn't have those .50s)
Well, it wasn't that easy considering that Blue were Green and Conscripts and armed with 100-year-old rifles. They key is to use lots of area fire, use your heavy HMG's and move troops as it says in the briefing.
-
The "First Attempt" mission in the repository - wow, it was so realistic.
Played it as Blue against AI and it unfolded just like the real events documented all thought that war.
Hope the author would make more missions!

When those BMP's arrived there was no-one left. They just stood there...silent.
And the rebels were already gone.

Hey guys just bought CM:A and loving it. My only problem... when i call in for mortar strikes for an area target, and i set a small circle for arty strike, the mortars hit nowhere near where im setting the attack area... why is this? im new to these titles period so any help appreciated.
Make sure you don't select "Emergency" strike. Emergency does not use spotting rounds and may be well off target.

Nigel,
I understand the real issue is that when you give an order the game crashes. That's an unusual behavior. So far I haven't seen reports of such behavior.
What kind of hardware do you have? Perhaps you have older drivers or videocard?
CM:A has been very stable overall as long as drivers are up-to-date and hardware is fairly recent (but it doesn't have to be top of the line). I am running it on a 3-year-old Dell Laptop without a hickup.

Stadler, so I understand you built the maps yourself? They look great!
Would you be OK if these maps were used by other people to make full-features scenarios (giving credit to you for the map). Often times the map is very time consuming to build and hence many people shy away from making new scenarios because of that.
But having a good map one can build many scenarios on it.

Awesome!
How many scenarios are you planning to have?
