  1. From game manual I understand that choosing Stick to Scenario Defaults will make game easier than Free to Place Units. Hovewer to me it seems that Designer knows best how to place units and letting AI do it will make it worse for him. In one of the missions with lot's of PillBoxes as a main goal I chose "Free to Place..." and was able to totally avoid them and then hit from behind with no losses on my side.

So which choice makes game more difficult ?

  2. Madmatt,

This is exactly the same problem that I have described in my e-mail. Obviously it happends on GeForce 1/2 on Win2K. Quite possibly it is not a problem of CM, but something else( Win2K, Det 3) so maybe you guys can "make those responsible" to fixing it. Microsoft regularly releases Compatibility patches with hundreds of games in the list, so it is not something unusual smile.gif

FSAA does fix the problem but as you know

FSAA on GeForce looks ugly and it slows framerates quite a bit even FSAA 1x2.

  3. True, CM has to use internal multithreading to take advantage of dual CPU's. But even if it does - what's the point ? Having even one 1Ghz Athlon will give you more than enough power. All in all CM isn't really a CPU-hungry game. Yes, framerate while scrolling may be a bit slow ( at least on my Cel 450 GeForce 2) but second CPU won't help here, since rendering is not a multithreaded process (at least in games like CM).

Falcon 4 is another matter - it uses realtime campaign engine in the background so dual CPU's do help a little.

If CM was updated to use DX8, then on cards with T&L we would get faster framarates.

hopefully CM2 will support DX8 so it in fact will be faster than CM.

I am sure Madmatt can correct me if I am wrong. smile.gif

  4. Here is the problem I am having. My desktop resolution is set to 800*600. I want to play game at 1024*768. But when I start it, it won't let me use 1024*768. So I make desktop resolution 1024*768 and then run the game at 1024*768. It is suppose to save settings, yet when I restore my desktop to 800*600 and launch the game again - I get only 800*600.

System: GeForce 2 GTS, latest drivers, Windows 2000 SP1.

    Any suggestion, guys ?

  5. That's all I wanted to know.

I am not an investor/broker or any of that crap - I am just dedicated to combat sims gamer.

And in light of latest events when lots of companies are dropping combat sim products in order to have resources to make "Who wants to be a Millioner" type of games - I don't think my question was that weird.

You want example - Falcon 4, says it all.

I just don't want to come one day on this board and read: " Combat Mission 2 is cancelled due to lack of customer base"

  6. Hi ! I've discovered this wonderfull game,

tried the demo and it seems challenging (not tha I ever won though smile.gif. But since I am new at this type of games, I hope to learn it.

My question is: does the full version come with good manual, so that I don't have to read tons of other books about basics of strategy ?

    Thanks !
