Purchase units... Confused!

Can someone please explain some of the ins and outs of purchasing units? I'm familiar with CMx1 and how to get the most out of purchasing units in that platform, but I am just baffled here.

Some things I'm confused about:

1. Why are there two columns for my 'point's account? I thought I had a handle on rarity but here I just don't understand why there are two costs for everything.

2. Why is it when I click on specialist teams I can't purchase anything?

3. When tweaking the skill level, fitness, etc of units, what does selecting 'typical' mean?

Any info and tips you want to share would be greatly appreciated.

1. Why are there two columns for my 'point's account?

One column is the 'value' of the unit, the other column is it's rarity cost. This is quite different to CMx1. When purchasing you have two pools - a value pool, and a rarity pool. When you purchase a unit, the 'value' cost of the unit is taken from your value pool, and the rarity cost is taken from your rarity pool.

The intent here is to disassociate the obscurity of a unit from it's value as a fighting platform, in the hope that players will chose to purchase obscure and non-uber kit more often, instead of just buying loads of kittehs. So, for example, a Puma might cost (made up numbers) 100 value points because of its combination of armour, firepower, and mobility, but cost 300 rarity points because they were rare as rocking horse poo.

2. Why is it when I click on specialist teams I can't purchase anything?

Specialist teams have to be added to an existing formation. Buy a battalion, then you'll be able to buy specialist teams (or single vehicles) to enhance that battalion. Note also that you can attach the specialist teams to any level HQ within the battalion. Simply select the HQ you want to enhance (platoon, company, or bn), and a little arrow will align agains the selected HQ. Then when you purchase the specialist teams, that's where they'll go.

3. When tweaking the skill level, fitness, etc of units, what does selecting 'typical' mean?

It'll give you a bellcurve of experience (or whatever) around the norm for that kind of unit. So, if you pick Paras and Typical you'll get mostly veterans, with a few elite and the odd crack, as well as a few regular and an occasional green. On the other hand, with a German Grenadier Battalion and Typical you'll get mostly regular, some veterans, the odd elite, a few green, and an occasional conscript. (I think. I don't recall where the centre point of each bellcurve is)
