Its all gone white!

Recommended Posts

I'm running CMBO on a p3 500 with a voodoo 3 and 128mb RAM and I am experiencing graphics problems. When playing a largish (but by no means huge) scenarion the screen will gradually go white. It starts off with little flecks on the units and then slowly the whole lot disappears completely. The program is still working, I just cannot see the game screen. Any ideas what the cause could be? I would guess video card incompatibility or lack of video memory or maybe even RAM resources, but if anyone knows the truth it would be useful. Thanks.

It is a known problem with the Voodoo series. If 3dfx was still around a driver update may have eventually addressed this problem. I'd suggest running at a resolution of 1024 x 768 or less and see if this helps. You may also want to try the last known driver to see if it helps or not.

Is your Voodoo3 an AGP or PCI card ? If you have DirectX 8.x installed and it is an AGP card you may want to experiment by turning off "AGP Texture Acceleration" in the DirectX Diagnostic (C:\PROGRAM FILES\DIRECTX\SETUP\DXDIAG - Display tab). However disabling this feature will probably drastically slow down CM.

x3dfx (go to "drivers" on the left side of the page and then select your card and OS on the next page):

Also... some people have recommended cutting down on high-res textures (especially grass, trees, etc.) to help with this problem.
