  1. The little Stuarts are my favourite. Fast, a pain for infantry to deal with, a reasonable main gun and, by chance, good at killing bunkers. Plus they look like an armoured all-terrain pram which is great!
  2. OK. Thanks guys, I wasn't too clear on that one.
  3. Just a quickie this one. I've got loads of general vehicle mods and was thinking of getting some winter versions. I'm fed up with big bold units in the snow. My question is do winter mods work side by side with the normal versions, or do they overwrite them? Cheers.
  4. For what it is worth, I always seem to get better officers at all command levels when using Volksturm troops than I do when using other German forces. This has led me to conclude that officer quality is in some way dependent on force compostion. This is just a guess though, designed to comfort me in my ignorance.
  5. I had a US rifle squad take out a Tiger at 50m with a rifle grenade just yesterday. This was unusual (a weak point hit on the top) but I have seen them do stirling work against other AFV, so long as the infantry are firing down onto the top of a slow target. Their accuracy and penetration seem too low to get kills any other way, which seems fair enough. I have noticed that Allied squads seem much more eager to fire their RGs than the Germans are to use their PFs, but maybe thats just me.
  6. Cheers guys, but are the mods you mention forthe wooden ones? I've got mods for the concrete ones already. Thanks.
  7. Are there any mods to be found for those useless wooden bunkers? I'm modded to the eyeballs with eye candy and then have to deploy these unsightly carbuncles which quite ruins the whole thing. Since I don't know the first thing about making a mod I thought I'd appeal to you lot. Please? PS Don't mention the dubious search function please. [ 09-03-2001: Message edited by: Slyspy ]
  8. Its when the Italians changed sides and joined the Allies. The mainly Italian forces in that part of Greece had to decide between surrending to their former allies, the Germans, or fighting them in the expectation of the Allies turning up at any moment. The German Army was less than gentle of its treatment of Italian prisoners (massacres occured). Those Italians who chose to fight had little AT capability or arty and no air cover. The book as I understand it is based on the real life tale of the officer in command of the Italian's only artillery battery on that particular island. He was captured and shot by the Germans in a mass execution, but survived thanks to the kindness of the local Greeks. The film is based on the book (it leaves out alot of the real life drama).
  9. Barbed wire. Lots of it, with the odd AP minefield in the openings. Especially useful if you are facing lots of inexperienced infantry. AT mines and roadblocks can serve to channel the enemy but in larger maps you'll need to many for them to be cost effective. I never seem to put my bunkers in the right place, which is a shame because I've been on the receiving end of effective bunkers more times than I can count (1, 2, 3....duh).
  10. Cheers for the suggestions, especially those who gave tactical advice not help with troop selction. The real direction of the question was how to take out the green horde with a balanced force, not one designed specifically to fight the horde. I play random quick battles, so I never know exactly what I'll be fighting. I found that in this case there were simply too many enemy units for any counter-measure to have much effect. Nothing could do much damage before the huge amount of return fire suppressed them (I've never seen so many MMGs in CMBO before).
  11. Well, maybe not thousands but definitely a great many. I'm looking for advice on tactics to counter massive rushes of low quality troops. My last quick battle (an attack) was an odd one. I chose a relatively balanced defensive force, mostly regular infantry with some support weapons, armour and arty. The AI on the other hans chose a force consisting entirely of green paratroops (with bazookas, MMG and a couple of arty spotters). Do you know how many green troops you can get for 2000 points?! My HMGs didn't really cut the mustard against so many. Any suggestions?
  12. I'm running CMBO on a p3 500 with a voodoo 3 and 128mb RAM and I am experiencing graphics problems. When playing a largish (but by no means huge) scenarion the screen will gradually go white. It starts off with little flecks on the units and then slowly the whole lot disappears completely. The program is still working, I just cannot see the game screen. Any ideas what the cause could be? I would guess video card incompatibility or lack of video memory or maybe even RAM resources, but if anyone knows the truth it would be useful. Thanks. Sly
